The first film in the director's cut version is a very good film. I am pleased to see that it will get a reboot treatment, though I am terrified it will be like Punisher: warzone-A horrendous piece of garbage. Keep Gale Anne Hurd away from it and it may have a decent chance.

Daredevil definitely has a hugh potential. The DC of the first movie is absolutely awesome (I love Farrel as Bullseye. Affleck was a very decent Matt).
I hope they reboot it the way they did it with "The incredible Hulk". Not retelling the origin, just a quick refference to it and then start with the main story right away.

The film wasnt that bad, well the directors cut with the sh*tty sex by the fire scene removed is a pretty decent film.

They need to nail the casting here and make sure they have a strong murdock. Murdock is a mature and mildly twisted charecter, flawed like Tony Stark and need someone with serious enough acting chops to cut it as high profile lawyer and dark vigilante.

To nail the film you need look no further than Kevin Smith as ditrector, maybe get Neil Gaimin on board as possible writer along with Smith?

As far as DD goes, i always liked the idea of Guy Pearce.

As far as bad guys go, kingpin is great but maybe as the man behind the main big bad.

I agree, as long as it's done in the same vein as The Incredible Hulk then I don't have a problem with it. Guardian Devil would be a great storyline, just replace (censored!) with oooh, I dunno, Mr Fear as the final villain. Get Kevin Smith to get his ass off his askewniverse comfort zone and direct a true belter of a DD movie, he definetly has the skills to pull it off. Finally, most importantly: Guy Pearce as Daredevil.

Daredevil's a great character so happy about this. With Ghost Rider I wish they'd go full on demon slaying violence instead of the PG-13 shite.

One of my problems with the first Daredevil was it didn't seem to decide how violent the tone was going to be. I actually thought Affleck was alright but his Matt Murdock didn't seem to have it in him to be the Daredevil that pushed a guy on a train track to get cut in half. The emo/rap rock soundtrack didn't suit and The Kingpin was laughable. He certainly didn't seem capabable of running a crime empire.

Which studio is making it? If it's Fox it'll be rubbish. If it's Marvel it's got potential. Daredevil should take a cue from Batman Begins/TDK for it's tone. Make it smart and make it a crime film. He is a lawyer after all.

Is better as a Director's Cut but still cannot overcome the *fundamental* perversion of the character in making him a cold-blooded murderer. I call bullshit on Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider is just an abominable mess on every level).

Um, am I the only one that saw they already used a lot of Guardin Devil in the first film (which was pretty good)? Especially the bits with Bullseye. But a straight adaptation of GD, minus the loopy twist, would be brilliant.

very happy with this news. One big thing to bring to light is why they cant really do guardian devil. The first DD film had guardian a good few gaurdian devil influences (the fight in the church being the biggest one) Therefore using that as the basis for DD 2.0 will look like a re-hash. They really need to look at recent DD stories for influence. Anything by Bendis or Brubaker would be perfect and they need to commit to at least two movies to do the character justice.
Ghost Rider needs alot more out of the box thinking to make it work. I would love them to go for the whole whack, heaven, hell, angels, demons and all the mythology. Just throw caution to the wind and look at stories like Road to Damnation for inspiration.

One thing that isn't quite clear from the article. You say Marvel is quietly working on a Daredevil reboot, but does this mean the rights have reverted to Marvel, or is it still Fox making the film? If it's Fox, I'm dubious of the film's chances of success, as Fox's superhero films are getting steadily worse as it becomes clear they're just throwing them out to capitalise on that "in perpetuity" (sp?) clause that allows them to hold onto the rights so long as they still have the properties in active development.

As for the plot of a Daredevil movie, in my opinion the best possible option would be an adaptation of "Born Again", which to this day still stands as the definitive Daredevil story. "Born Again" goes off the rails a little bit with the random third act inclusion of Captain America and a Vietnam-themed villain, so I'd possibly alter the third act by having Kingpin sending Bullseye or Typhoid Mary to finish off Daredevil instead. But other than that, "Born Again" has all the components to make a compelling film which brings something different to the superhero movie market.

If kevin smith could ever do a superhero flick surely daredevil would be perfect for him??
I liked the original film in both forms though the directors cut is a superior flick. Not sure who could be matt though?

I'd welcome a DD reboot, as would most Marvel fans, but it needs to be dealt with in a better fashion than the first. Okay, it's not all bad, but at times it does feel a bit hackneyed and as much as I like Colin Farrell, he does prance about like a pantomime villain. My hope is they go down the Batman Begins / The Dark Knight route; gritty, urban and morally grey. Not too sure who could play Murdoch, perhaps Brandon Routh could make the DC / Marvel crossover?

As for Ghost Rider, the first one is easily the worst film in the Marvel Canon by a mile. Hammy, cliched, and featuring some dreadful FX, Nic Cage is woefully miscast and Ghost Rider's voice sounds like a cross between Jeremy Jones' character from Howard the Duck and Deirdrie Barlow. I'd even rate The Punisher: Warzone ahead of it, if ony for Dominic West's outstandingly bad performance as Jigsaw. We do not need another one.

Speaking of The Punisher, why can no one get this right? The Tom Jane effort is solid enough, but not great by any stretch. Surely there's room for somebody to make a decent Punisher film?!?!

As Mark Steven Johnson doesn't appear to be involved in either at the moment. I can take or leave Ghost Rider sequels as the first was a dog although there's good scope for much better films based on the character. Daredevil was rubbish but again if Johnson isn't going anywhere near it then I'm instantly more optimistic about a reboot being an improvement. Then again all it takes is a bad script and lousy director and we're back the square one again.

It would be interesting to know if this is Marvel or Fox.  I certainly hope for the former.  That said if they get the right people on board it shouldn't really matter as DD seems to occupy a fairly private space in the Marvel Universe anyway so it wouldn't need to tie into the whole Marvel Cineverse as much.

I loved Guardian Devil but I think the way to go is the Bendid run.  Dark, gritty and really putting it's protagonist through the mill.  Murdoch is a great character and unquestionably one of my favourites.  Lawyer, Ninja, Ladies-man and unquestionably flawed.  It has so much potential in my opinion.

Firstly, Daredevil is my favourite Marvel character and has all the darkness and intensity that is required, the first Drirector's Cut version of Daredevil is a superb film, the feel and look are excellent and Affleck does a fine job as MM.

I would say keep MSJ on as director, he knows the character well and was screwed over by the studio on the first film big time, Arad fucked him royally and did much the same to Raimi on Spiderman 3.

No re-boot requiired in my view, continuiation yes.

Pick up the story where Kingpin is out of prison and after revenge.

Daredevil was a severely underrated film. It wasn't one of the best of the recent superhero films, but it certainly isn't one of the worst either. I thought that the first Hulk film wasn't that bad either though, so obviously people don't often agree with me.

Daredevil Director's Cut was a decent film. Ghost Rider was awful. I was so bored that I switched off the rented DVD of it I had and sent it back.
So I don't really see any need for a Daredevil reboot. Ghost Rider, if done properly, would be a massive improvement.

No, no, no to ghostrider sequal. First was appauling and cage is just too old and corny for any superhero role. (BTW, has anyone seen the test shot of cage as superman back when tim burton wanted to do it? F'ing hilarious!)

But good news about daredevil. The original was mmmokay but too many flaws- colin farrel as bullseye was the only real highlight. And although i think that garner and affleck deserve kudos in their own rights, they were both horribly miscast in that movie- garner especially. They made her character out to be less of a viscious femme fatale and more of an innocent, vulnerable victim who gets gutted the first time she goes on a vengeance mission! (yes, i know bullseye did it in the comics but by that point elektra is more than established as a force to be reckoned with.) She barely got her claws into anything and yes there was the spinoff but then again......there was the spinoff. I hope if they do this, they get their characters right and are not afraid to test the moral boundaries of their heroes.

I too like the Directors Cut of Daredevil (the theatrical version cut all menace out of Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin). Daredevil is too good of a superhero to pass moviedom by. Ben Affkleck is now to, how should I say this....padded to be the atletic hero and he's more a director now anyway. I say give Kevin Smith a try, possibly filming his own DD story.

DareDevil was okay. ben Affleck was a shit daredevil we need someone a little more... good. As for Ghost Rider i enjoyed it. Eva Mendes was okay and Peter Fonder was good. I can't help but hope that they decide to do re boot. And this time get James Caan as the devil and someone a little more complex as GR

The Ghost Rider film was a true abomination and Cage was one of the poor aspects of it (and there were many). I didn't mind Daredevil, especially the Directors cut although the CGI movements were poor to say the least.
