Does anyone remember this? Or even see it?

It was a series that was cancelled after 10 episodes. It was set after Batman sent himself into exile after the Joker killed Catwoman and Robin...i think.

The offical synopsis was; Legend tells of a caped crusader, Batman, guardian of New Gotham, and his one true love, Catwoman, the queen of the criminal underworld. Their passion left behind something extraordinary, a daughter, Huntress. Half metahuman, she has taken up her father's mantel and under cover of the night, fights to protect the innocent and helpless. Joining her in this struggle, Oracle, who was once Batman's protege, Batgirl. She was caught in the crossfire of the war between Batman and Joker, now she fights crime a different way, a master of the cyber-realms and mentor and trainer to heroes. Together, they have taken in a young runaway, Dinah, a metahuman herself with powers to open hidden doors to the mind, powers that she is only beginning to explore. Together, these three are the protectors of New Gotham - the Birds of Prey.

Dina Meyer (Dragonheart, Starship Troopers) was Barbara Gordan/Batgirl/Oracle and Ashley Scott was Huntress. It was quite dark but rather.......um...lame and i think lost out to Smallville. Does it ring any bells?

It sounded more like Mutant X. And about the same quality.

'sides - Huntress has a whole different gestation!

A nice idea but ruined by bad execution and silly ideas. Still it had Mark Hammill doing the voice of The Joker in the pilot. I've never seen an episode though but I know that the early '90s version of The Flash is coming out on DVD soon on R1 so maybe in a few years we'll see this.

I enjoyed it. I admit I wasn't surprised when it was canned but it was still fun.

It started very poorly but got much better as the series progressed. As I recall final episode was quite good .

Yeah, it was cheesy, but I really liked it. The Sci-fi channel showed it a while ago and I saw all the eps then. Really liked Dina Meyer as Oracle. I'll pick this up on DVD if it ever appears. Hot chicks with superpowers can never be a bad thing.

Yes it can. See ALL female superhero films AND Charmed. Attractive but rubbish.

Never heard of it. DC does better on TV when Bruce Timm is involved.

If I recall, in the DC universe, all humans have a dormant metagene, which when activated gives them superpowers, so kinda similar to the mutant gene, but not exactly...

I caught one episode, it was ok.  Why do they have to f&*k around with the characters tho?!?!  What would be wrong with making a series based on Huntress in the comics, instead of making up something new (clearly by an exec with no story telling ability whatsoever)?!?!?  It would have done a lot better!!

I can usually enjoy a female Superhero film if the scenery is good enough (Tomb Raider etc) but even I had to draw the line with Elektra. Oh dear.

You know the argument about how US tv is so much superior to the UK? Well, that's because we only get to see the very best of US shows here - rooting around on Sci Fi channel, ABC1 and sundry other digital channels reveals the amount of utter bilge that they churn out. How some of these shows ever get as far as production eludes me completely - the programme in question is the perfect example.

Sure the US makes loads of crap but the cream of US TV drama is far superior to the cream of UK TV. The only British series that can even compare is spooks whereas I can name at least six cracking US series that I've seen this year, without going back on previous years.

As for birds of prey it's no worse than Dr Who which also has its absolutely awful episodes. Let's not forget the masterpiece that is Torchwood which helped me to redefine the worst sci-fi series to grace our screens in modern times.

Even most of S3 - which had some really poor epis, I completely agree - doesn't compare to the level of bad of Birds of Prey. Later seasons of Birds of a Feather, maybe

Not a great way to go - soaps last as long and I wouldn't touch them with a variety of disinfected bargepoles.

Didn't make the last ST franchise any less kak either.

Anyway I wasn't comparing birds of prey with Dr Who in general but Dr Who over the last three years. Longevity doesn't mean quality

Very true, however the new run of Dr Who has had very few poor episodes (granted when it does, it does it big time), but the majority of them make up for it!  So comparing it to a dismal studio-exec's wet dream pile of crap American show really doesn't work....

Torres, the fact that you think Doctor Who is poor is a reflection on your tastes, not the show itself. Birds of Prey was badly written, acted and produced, it got very little viewers. Doctor Who (and soaps, thanks elab ) may not be perfect but they get millions of viewers an episode so they must be doing something right.

And elab, I say the same to you. The fact that you don't like soap operas is not actually the fault of the shows themselves, it is just your owen personal taste. I don't watch soap operas either but I know people who do and I wouldn't dream of knocking them for it.

Oh, I happily knock my mum for it. I found out on Monday that BARB had been knocking on her door. The idea that future production on TV might be down to (my admitedly much-loved) mum's godawful taste in soaps and reality shows makes me want to cry! Seriously - she even watches dross like Family Affairs and whatever Aussie crap was an offer. I am pretty sure she even watches this years BB.
