Rise of the Planet of the Apes reminded me A LOT of District 9. In a good way.

I miss this film this year,no alien film to touch it sadly.

Attack The Block was similar in the sense that it's an action film with some social commentary (infact I think they'd make a great double feature).

Sorry Batfan, didnt like that.I felt nothing to any character in that film.
It has nothing to do with budget, scale etc,the Prawns simply stole the show.

Agreed. But apes are not as submissive as prawns!Great connection to both struggles in these films though,in,very different ways.

I thought that was a running motif throughout the apes films?

I think it's just an effects test or for the trailers. There was no place for an imprisonment plot, just the stuff that the lab scenes implied (since most of it is from Wikkus POV or the interview style segments)

I thought it might have been used in the documentary segments as extra footage. Must have been cut for pacing. Would love to see it though.

Just re-watched DISTRICT 9 (looks absolutely crisp on blu-ray! THIS is what the format is all about). This is such a clever film - seriously man, it's just so much fun! Looking forward to director Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM.

Yep great film.
I love the fact through-out the film your feelings towards Wikus are tested.
Even after the film I didnt feel sorry for him.

Just watched this today, still a modern favourite and still impresses with the alien effects. Can't wait for Elysium too.

Still amazing. Still a masterpiece. Still the best sci-fi movie of recent years. You can see its influence in stuff like Battle LA and Dredd.

Yup. Rewatched it a couple of nights ago, and then that stood out most is how emotional resonance the story still carries.

WHich no mean feat considering the main character is kind of an asshole most of the movie! and the other characters a "Prawns"!!. I actually think it ranks up there with the best sci-fi movies ever!, forgot how good it was and I am now off to order the Blu Ray!

I was looking for a film to watch tonight and decided on D9 based on this thread.

Such a brilliant film. I think what I liked about it was that I genuinely didn't know what to expect when I put this film on.

The action was excellent, the story was a lot more intelligent than I was expecting and those special effects were spectacular.

There are some gaping plot holes but nonetheless, a cracking film.
