I would love to see a When the Levees Break style mockumentary about this history of the aliens arrival.

Aye. There's alot that the movie touches upon that could go off on all kinds of tagents. I hope they don't just go for the obvious sequel, but do something a little more surprising...

well, I just finished watching DISTRICT 9. "Impressive... Most Impressive." (Vader voice). Yeah man, great film. I liked the idea, cool FX, the documentary style scenes worked very well in the 'township' locations. Sharlto Copley's performance is brilliant - funny, energetic and tragic at the same time. I was surprised at how violent this is but that lends itself to the dark tone of the story. No need for a sequel but I hope Neill Blomkamp continues to impress with his visual syle.

Now I regret not seeing this at the cinema! I'm gonna watch the extras on the blu-ray. Then I'll have to dig up the back issues of EMPIRE and FANGORIA and read the articles. So, what do you guys think of the upcoming film MONSTERS which is being touted as 'This Year's DISTRICT 9'?

Monsters is not the next District 9 - its Lost in Translation - with squid monsters. Very low key, quite arty, but very well made. The only comparison is how well both movies do world building. Don't expect an action fest. The monsters are very much in the background. Still, a very exciting movie, well done, and the director has a real career ahead of him. But don't expect District 9.

Y'know, I really did like the film on first viewing, but I've not sat down and taken the time to properly get into it.

So, guess what's going in tonight!

The film also has some of the best concept design I have ever seen. The alien weaponry is exceptional and that Mech is an absolutely gorgeous piece of design.

If you’re looking for that type of vibe I have a feeling that Carl Erik Rinsch’s ‘Small’ should fit the bill whenever it finally comes out!

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/08/exclusive-concept-art-and-info-from-carl-erik-rinschs-small/

If you’ve not seen his short ‘The Gift’ then have a look. A really excellent sci fi short!

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/07/carl-erik-rinschs-the-gift/

Imagine what he’ll do with a budget!

I'm gonna ban that word!

When Rinsch finally doing a feature length film? His short films have been pretty exciting stuff and I am under the belief that he is directing his own feature length film, no?

He is now working on his version of Logan’s Run Dev. Which apparently is a lot more faithful to the book than the previous film was. There have also apparently been a lot of studio’s approaching him to expand The Gift into a feature, with the short acting a prequel of sorts. Whatever stage all of this is at I could do with them hurrying the hell up! Looking forward to him finally delivering a feature quite a lot! I know I’m like a dog with a bone on this but they never should have taken him off of Alien! His take on that would have been, in all likelihood, spectacular! Better than whatever Scott comes up with anyway I’ll warrant…. Ooooooo, what could have been!

So are we now agreed that District 9 is a sci-fi classic up there with the very best of the genre?

It seems clear to me that D9 will have the same impact among young genre directors as Blade Runner had in the 80s. You are already seeing its influence in stuff like Battle: LA.

District 9 is fabulous. I was gripped, and moved more than by any other film for a while.

I'm new to the forum, can someone help? Even though I don't consider myself to be particularly stupid, I can't seem to find how to edit my avatar/signature etc. even on the the 'My Profile' page. Could some kind soul tell me how to as if I were stupid?

Ta.

Thank you.

I now feel daft, as I just wasn't paying enough attention when I set up my account.
I look forward to appauling you all with my incoherent, uninformed views.

Right - I get an internal server error every time I try to apply my changes. The avatar has been accepted for size and dimensions. Anyone?

It does that sometimes. Its better if you paste your av from a URL source than uploading it from your pc, Empire doesn't seem to like that. If not then post a question on the thread I sent you to. Btw once you're sorted go here http://www.empireonline.com/forum/tm.asp?m=303570

Thanks, you are helpful. I did scour the forums and find that lots of other people have had similar problems, which is no great surprise if the technical issue is ultimately with the site...

I'll do a memorable introduction once I've fumbled my way through it.

Watching again tonight - gutted that we have to wait till 2013 to see Blomkamps next science ficiton movie

He did a viral video for it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cbfx67zSL0

This summer has been rather disappointing, and part of that has been no D9 level surprise.
