What if Ben REALLY needed that £5,000? I know I'd miss it. He even said he went to the shops that day! What if they filmed Ben doing somting odd in the time they were following him? Cheating on his partner or somthing. What if on the day they filmed Ben LIVE he was sitting at home in his underwear drunk off his ass?

My thoughts were Ben was either an actor or people have signed up for this show before hand and (possibly) signed a waver.
No way could you get away with taking a strangers money like that. What if Ben didn't have £5k in the bank?

I think he did sign somthing before hand. Infact if you watch it back brown quickly mentions this upon their first meeting just before he puts him in a trance. But still that must have been one hell of a document to allow Brown to do all that!

The more I think about it...the more I think that this element of the Event can't have been done for real. There are just too many unpredictable/uncontrollable variables that could go wrong.

My money's on (no pun intended) Derren & team agreeing with the bank to hand over some money that they had previously planted there to Ben when he walks in, i.e. the bank were also in on it.

Not necessarily. He said that he'd been surveiling the guy for over a week or so to get his routine down. He'd also filled out a questionaire to take part in the show and probably guage his social status and receptiveness to his techniques. We don't know how in depth the tests and questionaires were but you can guess that they'd be comprehensive enough for Derren to be relatively sure he'd be a good, all round candidate.

I know it couldn't be be because I don't have 5k in the account!

Anyone seen the new EXPERIMENTS?

I'm just watching the Assassin one.

It's really good.

I'm enjoying it, if nothing else I've learned never to piss off Derren Brown, god knows what he'd do.

The assasin one was good, but I thought it was a bit odd that the audience didn't seem too bothered about the shooting.

Yeah, I've watched them.  While they've been really interesting, I think the last couple have had an element of cruelty to them.  The game show one was well done (though by restricting the options each time to one obviously good and one obvioulsy nasty option it did cast doubt on the outcome), and I'm sure some of the audience must have felt like right shits at the end of it.  The most recent one, however, was particularly nasty.  The subject must have gone through hell and I wonder if the final exposé of the set-up did enough to relieve the anguish he must have felt.  I mean, how horrible must it have been to think that you could actually murder someone, for whatever reason?

The next one is supposed to be a bit lighter in nature -  a bit of light relief to end the run perhaps?

That was the first one I watched and I have to say I don't think I've ever seen anything so cruel. It was just sick. The absolute anguish that poor bloke went through was awful and while obviously his relief was palpable, is he going to remain feeling insanely guilty, for no reason, every time he gets touched on the shoulder?

Actually that one annoyed me for different reasons. I thought they were going to show how an innocent man can confess to something he hasn't done through conventional interragation (apparently it's not as hard as you'd think) but once you introduce hypnosis it's cheating, basically all they proved is you can confuse someone with hypnosis, which isn't a big surprise.

The one last week with the murder was just plain cruel.  I love Derren Brown but I've lost a lot of respect for him carrying out this "experiment".  Personally, I've not been impressed with these at all.  People are indeed fascinated in seeing people put through torment but to me, it is not entertainment when you are watching someone thinking they've killed someone and feeling confused and guilt-ridden.

Just had a thought.....perhaps "The Experiment" is on us, the viewers with how we're reacting!  *whistles Twilight Zone* noo noo noo noo....noo noo noo noo

It wasn't hypnosis though, it was association.

The shoulder touch was assocation, but then Derrenn put him in a trance and carried him out to the front garden, the way I saw it it was the "lost time" from going to bed and ending up in the garden that really freaked him out. That was pure hypnosis.

And I assume the guy was cool with the whole thing afterwards or he would never have consented to it being shown.
Unless Derrenn used some mind game to get them to sign the consent form......
