I seriously question whether the show was even live. It just seemed pre-recorded and the people and the phone-ins were bollocks. The whole "we only have a few people answering the phones so don't be disappointed if you don't get through" thing backs it up. I hope it was part of the bigger picture rather than a straight hoodwink from Brown (same as the lottery prediction last week) but I'll eat my scrotum if that was live.

Well I'm disappointed as like many others it never worked - I tried it twice naught happened. I did find the two segments fascinating, especially the guy who gave his shoe's to the homeless Derren Brown, BRILLIANT!!!

I didn't think it was live either. Derren didn't even have a mouthpiece for the telephone calls.

Ok, I admit it, I'm gullible

It worked for me. Not for the whole time mind, I got up after about two minutes. But I did feel really heavy and stiff. Arms felt as I they were tired down. And I also felt slightly stupid. It was weird, in my mind I was questioning whether I was simply going along with it to be part of the show, but at the same time it did feel as if I was stuck.

In the end, to get up, I did have to cheat in my mind and break through the imaginary ring/halo that was meant to be the safe zone - I actually think this was part of the trick, as instead of it being the safe area, imagining this ring in your mind - and staying within it - was actually part of the reason people were staying stuck.

And afterwards, for awhile, my head felt heavy. But it was fun!

Pretty much what happened to me?? was just weird lol

I'm not alone!

As for it being live, I don't know about the tv test subjects and the phone-section, but the bits were Derren is talking just before and after the spinning-line video definitely appeared pre-recorded.

Just watched one of past shows 'Trick or Treat' - the one where he makes the pianist rediscover her passion for it and makes her play in a recital but tricks the audience into thinking it would be the first time she had ever played.

It's a cracking episode about how to rediscover a past passion - but whatever the girl (or any of the other subjects) decides - it will be up to Derren as if you look at either card upside down, it reads the option upside down...

Probably the most 'fake' of his shows to be honest. I used to REALLY like watching Brown before he started doing these over the top stuff that drives people away, the roulette thing was so absurd I refused to watch it since it would be clearly fake, and these past two shows he has done have been EPIC fails and complete babbles where he basically rehashed what he has said in the past.

It's similar to Blaine and when he started to do the silly endurance acts.

I guess they have to do things like this to secure big contracts, and to branch out of just doing basic magic/illusion/psychic shows around the world.

I  enjoyed the show but didn't get stuck (I know one person who did.). I think it didn't work on me because I listened to a Derren Brown audio book recently and he talked about how to hypnotise peole to get them to stick to the chair. I could hear him use all the techniques (repetition, positive reinforcement,  leading statements) in the speil before the video was shown. The same way I spotted nearly all the visual cues in the giraffe segment.

I am worried about the ethics shown so far in this series. In the first episode it apparently isn't OK to stab yourself in the foot but stamping on a mouse is fine. And in this one I would have been pissed off if I found out I was influenced to give £100 to charity.

which is wise because nobody would be interested in his shows as they would know what the eventual outcome of his tricks would be...."oh he's going to make her pick blah blah blah" etc.

He's even suffering because of this now - some of his tricks appear to be quite predictable in the sense that we know Derren will make the audience member pick whatever he wants her to pick.

Why would he need a mouthpiece? He's miked up already.

Apparently there have been a large amount of complaints regarding the stuck to the seat one with people complaining that it was a rip off and nothing happened. Still what do they want it was free, also they didn't need to watch it (and apparently not a lot of people are watching).

Didnt work at all. Enjoyed all the build up though even though I still think the sticking in the seat was a load of crap.

While I wasn't "stuck" to the seat, I did feel really relaxed like I didn't want to move and it took a bit of a mental nudge to actually get me up on my feet.

I think it was all more to do with the power of suggestion before the video was played. He used a lot of the same kind of descriptions - stuck, glued, cemented to your seat to enforce the thought. In essence, the video was a bollocks diversion to what he was actually saying.

He kind of lost credibility when his first caller was a 10 year old boy. You could have asked that kid if he thought he was a fire engine and he would have agreed.

Yet another dumbed-down show by Brown. Apart from the lighbulb trick, it was poor.

So what happened there?

Was Derren rumbled in the casino or was he just not feeling it?

That was probably the best show that he did out of the four.   Some of the stuff he pulled off like hypnotising the guy in the cafe was amazing.  And he failed to do it at the end (but still one out is impressive) Surely making someone give you 5,000 without their knowledge is illegal?

yeah one number out is still pretty impressive - but the place where he did (or failed to do) the trick looked a bit small to be a casino.

Pretty sure David Lynch was the sound designer for the Casino sequence.

I saw it on my brother's old 4:3 14 inch TV, and it was blatant he had perspired a lot, at home on Friday night...

He's gonna go out tomorrow and totally get lots of looks.

I was expecting something like that, but I thought the numbers throughout the show would be the ones in that backwards advert.

What was the point in the episode? Probably to do with gullibility again, but surely no one actually thought the casino was real?

Do you know, I wish we could actually find out.

I have my suspicions about this and I do suspect him being an actor as certain things didn't make sense...

Look at when Ben (was it?) answered the phone. He continued watching the TV - which by that point wouldn't he have seem himself and therefore straight away looked at the cameraman to find where he was? He seemed shocked when he finally saw him.

I agree that didn't make sense but maybe he was supposed to be in shock? I think they showed the number 30 on the van so that Derren could say he didn't get it wrong after all.  It was no doubt part of the show.  But it probably wasn't a real casino and if he was an actor then why say no stooges or actors are used?
