You have got to be kidding me. Most pointless film idea ever! The tv series kicked ass - no way the film could ever live up to that...especially if they use the same characters!

This is going in the same 'You Morons' pile that the Buffy movie idea now lives in.

The tv show was already like a fantastic film anyway. If they are going to do something, using a new cast would be suicide. Maybe Singer just wants to cobble a few episodes together and chuck em up on the big screen like Glen A Larson did in the late 70s and early 80s... Kind of a full circle thing.

nclowe is exactly right - I knew that Hollywood were struggling with original ideas - but to start raiding television series that have only just finished is beyond a joke. The question is: who will go to see it?

Utterly pointless. The reason the TV series worked so well is they had the television hours to tell the story and develop the characters. Is Hollywood that bereft of ideas? what's nexts? a big screen adapation of last nights casualty...

Oh dear.

What were the Cylons in the original? Lizards or something in robot disguise? And Gaius Baltar was Count Baltar with a cape

They should just rename this movie 'Glen A Larson's Sour Grapes'. Apparently he hated Ron Moore's approach to BSG and wasn't too happy about not having any creative control over the new series, so went off in a huff to make his own reboot.

The Ron Moore Battlestar Galactica was the best TV show ever. To do a big screen remake would be an insult to the memory of all the characters and would never be as good as the TV show anyway. It would be like making a new Buffy movie with a brand new cast and without Joss Whedon!

I'm pretty sure that Larson didn't hate the show considering he was happy to have his name on the credits at the start of every epsiode.

The show was pretty cinematic as it is. The Adama Manuvuer was such a great moment that showed up a lot of big blockbusters.

I'm guessing the success of Star Trek has something to do with this. But I honestly cannot see what Singer could bring to the table that ether the 70s show or the remake already did.

The plotline that was drafted by Singer before Moore came onboard was pretty much the arc that was done at the end of season 2/start of season 3 but set on an asteriod.

But if, after the holocaust, this film sends the fleet to a casino planet, then I will pay to see the film twice.

i think battlestar the tv show was very good and went onto 4 seasons. i would like to think it is time for a new movie if they do it right and have a good story and plot. that is what a good movie should be about.

I often forget that the original Galactica universe had aliens - although I don't think we saw many.

Was the show actually that good? I never watched it so I can't really comment. I was put off by the CGI Cylons and Star Buck being a chick!

Introducing the franchise to a broader audience who would then go and buy the existing back catalogue must be a commercial no brainer. So how do you do it? A re-imagining (Singer's chance to do it his way), or TV series tie-in (the first Cylon war may have possibilities). Singer must really love the show

It's not that good... it's beyond good! It's frakking brilliance on your screen!

Watch the mini-series and if it doesn't float your boat you've only lost out on 3-4 for the DVD.

I am not sure why a BSG movie is not greeted with more enthusiasm as the 2003 TV series was superb. The quality of this TV show is likely to set a high standard for a possible movie, I am sure fans would look forward to this. Singer is a good idea for directing, but JJ Abrams is the best choice.

If they wanna do a feature it should be Moore's universe and involve the first Cylon War. Those unfamiliar with the new show wouldn't feel confused since it's basically a war story about robots who rebel against their masters.

That's the point, it was executed perfectly. What's the point in seeing new actors playing Adama, Apollo, Starbuck, Tigh, Boomer etc. and seeing Caprica blown to piece again?

Moores version told a story that had a begining middle and end. Even a movie set in the First Cylon War would be hampered by Caprica.

If they do something totally different from the show then it will have to be a bit lighter, big space opera. Not sure people will flock to the mutliplex to see a movie where most of mankind is wiped out in the first 30 mins.

Personally I think Singer should go off and make his own space opera franchise.

I'm sure Moore said that is Caprica does well there was a possibility that they'd continue on into the first Cylon War.

@ waltham1979: The 2003 BSG show was awesome, and there nothing wrong with Starbuck being a woman - Katie Sackoff was excellent. Tech_Noir gives good advice: the mini-series is worth a punt.

You mean that stupid, horrible, Star Wars rip-off, bag of wank of the 70s?

And it is rather pointless, just the miniseries itself was a great film in itself. Would be interesting if they did it on Kobol or original Earth before destruction though. Maybe The Final Five would finally make sense to me.

Yeah - I'm sure Sci-Fi sees this as a long term tv franchise along the lines of Stargate, but you know, better.

I'm not against the idea of a movie, but I feel that it is somewhat redundant now.

Here is a series of production pictures and notes from the cancelled 2001 series

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiC-30keJSs

And here is an FX demo reel done by Foundation Imaging for the show

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1OSm8TERWY

It certainly feels more like Star Wars. I'm just surpirsed that Universial want to go this route so soon. But, along with Serenity, it does appear that they want some long term sci-fi franchise to get off the ground.

All of this has happened before and will happen again....

I don't think any movie will have anything to do with the tv series.

depends on what they do with it reckon!
Could be alright - i think the series was struggling for decent characters toward the end anyway. Maybe fresh faces is what it needs!?
I think as long as they have a story to tell and keep the same dramatic edge as the series it could be really good!

Ok, illl give it ago BUT if its more Stargate than Babylon5...I will not be happy !!

On a more immature note, Katie Sackoff is a great second name for a woman taking over a role previously played by a man !!

This post has so much wrong in it its not even funny, did you even watch the show? or are you one of those people who assumed that because they changed most of what made the original a crappy Star Wars rip off and turned it into one of the best tv shows ever that its crap?
