John Cameron Mitchell’s ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ is both, surreal and yet believable, deeply moving and uplifting. Cameron Mitchell has taken what initially appears to be a situation and a character that is fairly inaccessible to your everyday cinema-goer and yet has cast it in such a light that it is difficult to believe that anyone could not relate at some point to Hedwig and her situation or feelings. Thus, I can honestly say that to rate it any less than five stars would be to do it an injustice. In my opinion, as far as ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ goes, Cameron Mitchell, hasn’t put a foot wrong. Hopefully it won’t be long before he makes another film like it.
