I suppose you can justify some remakes if the original was promising but didnt quite deliver or do as well as predicted but come on its Total Recall!! The original rules! The amount of great scripts that never get made and they go and put money into this. Take a chance on an original script PLEEEASSE.
Halloween was bad enough, Pelham 123 had me slightly annoyed but now its war.
heads are gonna fucking roll!

With this and another Verhoeven movie in the remake stages (Robocop), it'll only be a matter of time before Showgirls is given a re-imagining.

the only way it could work would be a SEQUEL, and see what the world would REALLY be like ..... as the original WAS a memory implant .....

but the question would be is this ..... WHO'S MEMORY IMPLANT COULD IT BE??

a straight remake is totally POINTLESS, like the vast majority of those remarked upon in the last two years

My initial thoughts were of violence, but if this remake is more of a straight adaptation of We Can Remember It For You Wholesale then it could be worth watching. There's no point in remaking the Arnie movie though, it's perfect in its own insane sort of way.

Good point. I went straight for agression myself

But you're right, the story is very different from the Verhoeven knockout, so a straight adaptation might be interesting.
Someone like Aronofsky wouldn't be a bad fit if that were the case.
But a straight remake is about as pointless as clothes on a fucking dog.

Let's hope so, the exact same title suggests a straight remake and not a faithful adaptation of the source material. Then again, Joe Public has probably never heard of Dick's story besides the flick, and We Can Remember it for You Wholesale is a tough sell for a title.

It would be propably translated that way when it is dubbed in Italy anyway (if you don't get what I am saying chek some title translations, especially comedies, of some american films in Italy). But they could find another name. Total Recall itself is not the original title of the book anyway. Surerly a day of brainstorming could fiux that?

Yes indeed thoughts of Violence. Love the original, it is indeed perfect in its own way.

The dick short story "We can remember it wholesale for you" is an insane story and quite different from the total Recall movies. So if they distance it from the Verhoeven masterpiece it could be something i guess. I'm not incredibly excited about it though.

I have just seen the remake of Total recall as I'm in the states for a holiday and thought I'd take a gander. Warning there might be some spoilers!!!!! The film is quit disappointing, it has none of the originals quality or heart. the effects are much better, obviously, and there are lots of little nods to the original, even playing on the viewers expectations in some parts. The characters and the mystery surrounding the central plot are underused and the director has decided to move towards action sequences to propel the film on. Although I haven't read the book I do get the feeling that the film tries to stay closer to the source material rather than the previous film.

Empire doesn't review to US release schedules, it's a UK magazine.

Occasionally there might be contemporaneous reviews or the film might be previewed at a festival or something like Comic Con. I guess that isn't the case here.

Or given the US reviews, maybe they'll even try to sneak it out without showing the critics?

Watched this last night. It sits firmly in `another Completely pointless remake` bin, soon to be joined by Robocop....... The plot was a complete and utter mess and the visuals just looked like a tick list of things that need to be in a Sci-fi.
Complete with iRobot police, check.
Rainy lower levels with japanese style umbrellas and see thru blade runner style rain coats, check.
Dingy apartment, check.
Cyberpunks, check
Vangelis styple music, check
Evil large corrupt organisation, check
Flying cars, check

Seriously, its that fuckin bad. Its like a giant worm from Dune ate iRobot, Minority reports, Bladerunner and the original Total Recall and Shite out this monster pile of cineturd!!.

Yeh, watched the trailer when I went to see Bourne Legacy last night! I was like! wow!! that trailer really does show the whole movie in 30 seconds. Then again the worst example of this is the Judge Dredd Movie trailer! I have no intention of watching this movie at the cinema! I know the plot (The Raid), I know what the movie looks like and that he throws the main bad guy out of a window.
