ORIGINAL: keniby It comes as no shock to me that Johnny Depp wont be returning to the part he played in 2000 because frankly,he hasnt been Johnny Depp since 2003. Since Depp hit the big time with the original Pirates and everyone decided they loved him,the man has done not one thing of interest. When he became a big star i got excited that he would use that star power to get projects like this one and (fair enough) The Rum Diary, off the ground. Instead he has been willing to chase the paycheck in a series of big bucks, hollywood snoozefests with nary i hint of the wild card actor who we all fell in love with in the first place. Success has ruined him,i feel, and i have noticed a strange thing where people are afraid to critizise the man, however wide of the mark he may be,cough cough, willy wonka, cough oscar nod for sweeney todd. Like an insecure child given a bit of praise,he is happy to abondon all that is him for a pat on the back. Rum Diary apart, nothing on his upcoming slate is of any interest to me and lets be honest,he and Tim Burton havent made a decent film since Ed Wood (notable exception of Corpse Bride) sorry for the rant folks but im just peeved off at the adulation he still recieves despite being mediocre since hitting the big time six years ago. Robert Downey jr has long been one of my top five favourite actors,i just hope the same fate does not befall him I think that's a little harsh. I don't think either guy takes the easy option. I mean have you seen the stills from Alice in Wonderland? They're not going down a bland, milksop road here. No but they are going down the same old cooky/weird/gothic Burton shit which got boring about 10 years ago. Gotta agree there. Tim Burtons ok and all but he hardly makes original flicks and if youve seen one youve seen them all, keeps Danny Elfman busy aswell!
