"Inherent Vice" is Thomas Pynchon's new novel, his first in three years since 2006's "Against The Day". It's not the 1000+ page behemoth that Against The Day was though, clocking in at around 370 pages - it's described thusly:

"Part noir, part psychedelic romp, all Thomas Pynchon private eye Doc Sportello comes, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era as free love slips away and paranoia creeps in with the L.A. fog."

Any more Pynchon fans (if so, where have you all been hiding??) got this yet, or looking forward to reading it?

Gravity's Rainbow is an absolute masterpiece. Though The Crying of Lot 49 is a lot shorter so it may be worth starting with - on the other hand, a lot of reviews are saying that Inherent Vice is great for new readers, so it may be worth considering.

I studied some ideas of Gravity's Rainbow for Postmodernist Literature in Philosophy but I'd better start with something easier. So Inherent Vice might be my first.

I thought "V." was a good book. Gravity's Rainbow and The Crying Lot of 49 are the only other novels of his that I have read. Gravity's Rainbow I liked. 49, not so much.

But I might have to check out Inherent Vice.
