He's in one of the gunships

This question applies to Starship Troopers as well but shouldn't the technology that took the military to another planet in another galaxy be a bit more advanced than mini-guns doing it the old fashioned mechanical way of firing projectiles/bullets? What no lasers?

Films seen this year

Wreck it Ralph - 3/5
Evil Dead 3/5

Notice how Cameron is making himself the star of the film in marketing and promotion of it.

Why not still use projectiles? - 30/7/2009 2:23:12 PM

Lasers in controlled 'bursts' would require significant amounts of energy to deploy - something I'd have to assume after light-speed travel the ships/transports might want to conserve perhaps? And, as you're well aware, the premise of the film is that the humans intend to strip-mine the planet for ENERGY, so they're clearly running short. I'm calling you lazer-firing cunts out. J Cameron.

Ooh, Cameron holding a gun.

Unfuckingbelievable. Calm down Empire.

You could say the same thing about aliens, marines with the ability of interstellar travel and they're still using (for the 80's) modern camo, vietnam era modified helmets, etc

it's a film ffs, besides how do you know that weapon in the dropship doesn't fire a laser based round? Have you seen the film yet ? (yes i know comic con saw clips, but from what i read of them only 1 gun was fired and it was a rifle held by sam worthingtons avatar)

i was dissapointed with cameron for titanic (i just didn't like it), but Aliens is still one of my fave movies of all time so ill wait until i actually see avatar to judge it

I'll say again. I've had enough of hearing about Cameron. Ever since he shouted 'I'm the King of the World' on the Oscar stage winning the statue, which clearly should have gone to Curtis Hanson, to me Cameron has always been an irritating, smug and arrogant git. The 3D revolution I don't buy and I couldn't care less about the new camera technology Cameron has always been show off but ever since True Lies he lost his sincereity. I will go see Avatar because the story sounds interesting and it is well cast, also to see if Cameron has regained what he was good at, making top action/adventure movies which were sincere and had depth as opposed to just showing us all his new computer programme

This is going to be asbolutely fantastic, I have full confidence.  I even sense a few box office records falling.  If anybody can do it, it's James Cameron.
