Crikey - Gram must feel like a stroppy employee being ordered around.

I'm sure the odd 'please' and a less peremptory request might be appreciated.

Any sort of thread updates from me (or indeed, any manner of input at all to this or any other website) are on hold at present.
There's more important things going on in life....

Mrs 123 gave birth to Baby 123 in the early hours of this morning.

Thank you all!
Kind of a weird place to announce the news, this thread, but there you go.

Yeah, not had much sleep for the last few days, and going a bit mental with it. I came home last night and couldn't sleep, so tried to start watching Tokyo Sonata. Got 20 mins in and fell asleep...
Mother and baby are still in the hospital for a couple of days, so I might watch the next 20 mins tonight!

Might be a bit of a hectic start. But I think we'll get by if the movie viewing goes something like Totoro > Ponyo > Spirited Away > Kung Fu Panda > Jackie Chan Adventures > Samurai Jack, then work our way backwards through the Jackie Chan back catalogue. Should get onto John Woo films within a couple of weeks!

Right, well, I haven't updated this thread since January, so apologies and all.

Since then, the following titles have been released:

Next title is Nakashima Tetsuya's Confessions, though there's no DVD release date yet:

Ditto on Turtles and therefore Swamp. I put Fish Story on my rental after enjoying Fine, Totally Fine more than expected but I'm not sure why!

Peppermint Candy - sheer brilliance.

Well I've seen a few Third Window releases now and I've enjoyed all of them.  They're all interesting, funny and surprisingly compelling.

Most recently I saw Dasepo Naughty Girls and it's hilarious.  My favourite so far is probably Kick The Moon.

I also really liked PTU and actually think it's my favourite Johnny To film.

Of the films listed I've seen the following:

No Blood, No Tears
PTU
Friend
The President's Last Bang
Funuke
Fine, Totally Fine
Dasepo Naughty Girls
Kick The Moon

Have you seen Attack the Gas Station, John? I know it isn't fair that it was part of the reason I didn't think much of Kick the Moon (the other being the sad attempt to replicate Tequila Sunrise!), but it is a really great film.

I'm a little late in responding to your post elab.  I haven't seen Attack The Gas Station but it's on my radar.  The reason I've not seen it is that for some reason I can't get it on Lovefilm.  I may have to buy it one day.  I don't think I've seen Tequila Sunrise.  May have to check that out.

I saw Turtles Are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers last week and absolutely loved it.  It's very funny and charming.  It's my favourite of all the Third Window releases I've seen.

I'm afraid it's never gotten a release over here - although it can be obtained very cheaply from many region 3 sites or via Ebay. Given it's popularity amongst fans of South Koreans films, it seems odd it's never gotten a UK release.

My copy of Attack the Gas Station is the Tokyo Shock R1, which I think was fairly cheap at the time, but seems to be going for $30 + (expensive) delivery on Amazon US or 14 + (cheap) delivery via Amazon UK marketplace.

Thai and Korean copies were under the $5 mark when I got mine. Attack the Gas Station 2 was under $10 when I got it a couple of months ago, too.

Recieved a reply from Third Window Films regarding a UK release of Attack The Gas Station.  Below is the response I got.

Dear John

I'm afraid not. Film rights for that title are expensive and not enough demand.

Sorry

Adam Torel

Oh well.  That's a pity.

A Third Window rep introduced a showing of Confessions at the Glasgow Film Festival today. That looks to be getting a short theatrical run-out prior to DVD release. There were 2 other Third Window films showing as well - Confessions of a Dog and the new Sion Sono, Cold Fish. He was a nice chap and, as you might expect, very enthusiastic. He actually spent more time talking about Confessions of a Dog, partly because they wanted to get more people to go but also, I assume, because unlike Confessions - which was a smash hit in Japan and a big award winner - Confessions of a Dog, about police corruption, got very little notice. Also, it sounds like they're not even going to bother trying to get Paco and the Magical Picture Book (Nakashima) as he just dismissed it as a kids' film - starring Koji Yakusho, you can pick it up from the likes of HKflix.

Confessions - DVD/BD release 25/4/11

Cold Fish - DVD July 2011

Confessions of a Dog - March 14th 2011

Technically, he didn't actually say it was banned.
