I found Rambo 4 to be good but slightly disappointing at the same time. Its my least favourite Rambo film but thats only because the original trilogy is so good.

While I do like the original trilogy, I often feel First Blood - Part 2 is the weakest. I might be in a minority here, though.

First Blood 2 is one of the best action movies ever made so yeah,id say youre in the minority there. Its also Stallones biggest box office hit ever is that right?

I'm not saying it's not a great action movie, I just feel that it's a bit weaker than Rambo III. It's the one I've watched least, anyway.

He's not in the minority. Many people (including myself and Snake) agree its the weakest of the 4. And box office success doesn't equate to a films quality, if that were the case then the Star Wars prequels would be some of the greatest films ever.

While Rambo 4 may have lacked in some areas(evil russian wrestlers, helicopter gunships, explosive arrows),i have to say the final battle was carnage at its finest.

Wonder where in Thailand does Rambo get his hair dye from though?

I was just thinking the other day - I'm so glad this film was made I, ME! I waited TWENTY YEARS for it! It's RAMBO 4! And although I hate to admit it, this film delivered the goods that a certain other favourite action hero's fourth adventure also released in 2008 failed to do so.

Picked this up on Blu Ray last week looking forward to seeing it again. Have not seen it since it came out on DVD.

Just re-watched the blu-ray (yes, it's what Snake-Eyes likes to watch on a Saturday AM). Looks and sounds absolutely crisp; EXACTLY the sorta film the format can highlight at it's best. Damn, I LOVE this film, gets better with each viewing. Sly did indeed bring it all round 'full circle'. Brian Tyler's score is great too.

So is the Director's Cut still not available in the UK?

I don't think so but if you ask me the R2 cut is much better, its more streamlined for starters, better edited and has a lot more violence and gore compared to the US cut which is more censored.

Really? That surprises me. I would thought that the bbfc would have been more strict on the violence than it American counterparts

I thought the same but I've seen both versions and the violence in the R1 DC is tamer than the R2 theatrical cut. Maybe Stallone was responding to all the criticisms he had about the extreme violence when he made the newer cut. Or something like dat.

I have this lying about at home somewhere: never got around to watching it. I'm thinking this weekend I'll finally check it out.

Is it as good as/better/worse than Rocky Balboa?

They're as good as each other. They're very different films obviously, but they both to do great jobs of bringing fitting ends to each character

The first and second Rambo films were amazing. The third one was ok and the last one was a nothing in comparison. There was even some half decent acting from Sly in the first two films.

I don't entirely agree.
The first one was excellent and had arguably Stallone's strongest ever performance. Two and three were action movies very much of their time, great fun though. The last one was stronger than the previous two, but I would say that Stallone wasn't doing anything amazing acting wise. He was perfectly fine of course but thing thing that may the movie was the incredible level of violence and the nice rounding off of the Rambo story.

If that is the case then it shouldnt be surprising that Stallone has given in to the critics( or more likely, greed ) and gone for a softer cuddlier rating for EX2.

This.

And I thought the reason for the softening of EX2 was to do with Chuck Norris's involvement?
