Man i missed the wisdom of Trautman in the final film too!! I would pay good money just to watch Crenna in a Rambo spinoff, called er, TRAUTMAN!! With music by the great maestro Jerry Goldsmith!! One can only dream eh??!

 you do indeed, and I think you get a bit more trautman in the deleted scenes. Albeit an extended version of what is already in the movie. I remember when the movie was in pre production they talked about recasting trautman or bringing in a similar character to fill in or bridge the gap. Some of the names mentioned were....

Nick Nolte
Josh Brolin
Martin Sheen
Tommy Lee Jones
Michael Douglas

Any one of these would have brough something fantastic to the role, but in my opinion it would have had to have been a new character. Nick Nolte would have been good but he would have been more feral than Rambo! Tommy Lee Jones does those roles in his sleep, and Martin Sheen perhaps would have been more "all american". I think the thinking behind Douglas was that in First Blood his father Kirk was cast as Trautman and maybe having Michael as a new character in a later movie in the franchise would have been a homage of sorts. And he would of been damn good too! Personally I would of liked to see Brolin come in and do a bit...

Another name I recall being mentioned was Sam Elliot. Also... don't you mean James Brolin...?

And Rambo ripping out the dude's throat - WITH HIS FUCKING BARE HANDS!!!!

 One of my personal fave bits is when Rambo uses the gun mount on the jeep to turn the henchman in to strawberry jam. Awesome.

 Fuck, I've watched this film three or four times in the past WEEK! Fucking love it!

The first assault is brutal as fuck, but authentic to what Stallone was trying to portray.

The scene with THE BOW! I just love the look on the Merc's faces when John J. lets fly with his arrows, skewering all the Burmese soldiers without even drawing a breath!

The night-time assault is genuinely pulse-pounding, right up to the moment Rambo grabs the soldier's throat and tears it out with his BARE FUCKING HANDS!

Loved Brian Tyler's score at the point where Rambo creates a diversion by running to the old Tallboy bomb*.

That final assault, where Rambo takes over the .50cal machine-gun.

Shit, there's not a damn thing I don't genuinely love about this film.







*Incidentally, the British never used the Tallboy in the SEAC theatre. It WAS used in action against the Battleship Tirpitz later in World War 2, however. But, I won't hold that against the film at all.
