I knew you would like the news, Snake!

I'll get it, too. The 60 minute doc sounds interesting.

I'm curious if Stallone will add more violence to the film...

Could he add anymore?

Honestly - I'm happy with the cut I have. It says everything it needs to.

According to an interview with DVD producer Cliff Stephenson on the German site Schnittberichte.com the film will not only reintroduce the deleted scenes but it will be recut (some scenes will be shorter ) and some of the CGI effects will be upgraded.

Some more details about the extras:

quote:

As the special features producer for both the original disc and this new release, I want to comment on the inclusion of extras for both releases. The new director's/extended cut does not contain the features I produced for the original 2008 release, but that was a very deliberate choice. When putting together the features for this new release, I looked at it as an extension of the original release. We didn't just want to recycle what people had already seen and owned. We wanted to create new material that would be fresh and more in concert with the director's cut purpose of the new disc. I wanted to create a great 2-disc set, it just so happens that both discs are available separately. So you have a theatrical disc with all the extras geared towards the collaborative movie making process (including interviews with cast and crew) and an extended cut disc with a brand new 80+ minute production diary from Sylvester Stallone. I hope that makes sense and people understand that the original extras weren't left off in an effort to screw people, because if that were the case, Lionsgate would never have approved the creation of the production diary (which runs almost the length that the theatrical cut does).

I've checked it out before ordering DK - it is not region locked so should be ok. I'll post my thoughts once it's delivered and I've watched it.

Snake let me know if that extended cut BD is definitely region free. I'm torn y'see, i wanna get all the Rambo's on BD and have been toying with the boxset, however if this extended cut is region free, i'll get the movies seperately to each other so i can justify buying this one.

the First Blood Bluey is only £6.47 on amazon. VERY tempting to pick up solo.

single FIRST BLOOD U.S. blu-ray is worth snaring for the Stallone commentary alone.

Now you're adding to my confusion dude

Ive found the Rambo 4 movie blu ray boxset new on amazon from a seller for £14.99 plus P+P. they have 97% positive feedback based on thousands of ratings. That's a seriously amazing price!

EDIT: When i said Rambo 4 movie boxset, i meant the set with all 4 movies, not just rambo 4

That was one of my very first Blu-ray's.

It's probably just as cost effective to get them all separately anyway.

Just finished watching EXTENDED CUT which is actually a bit misleading, I'd say it was more of an 'Alternate Cut'. What we have here, does not drastically alter the film in any way. There are some slight tweaks in dialogue and scenes. One of my favourite kills in the film was always En-Joo dragging one of the bad guys under the truck and stabbing him viciously in the rib-cage - this has been shortened to just the initial stab to the throat. Never mind, I have it on the original blu-ray. Anyhoo, here are some other note-worthy changes:

• The opening title now reads 'JOHN RAMBO' (I always preferred this title as it matched 'ROCKY BALBOA')

• The original opening sequence of the Burmese Soldiers forcing the prisoners to run across the mines has been moved that we see it later and so this version opens with Rambo and his boat guys trapping snakes and this runs a bit longer.

•There’s a longer night scene in a village that’s being raided.

•The “what is” speech on the boat that takes place in the rain between Sarah and Rambo is different. John talks about politics and war and admits he wasted his life on war.

•There are longer conversations between the missionaries and Rambo on the boat ride to Burma.

•There’s a slight change to the pirate shootout scene.

•There’s a longer goodbye scene between John and Sarah he when drops the Missionaries off in Burma.

•There are new flashback scenes when Rambo is burning the pirate ship and he throws his knife (from PART II) into the fire.

•The raid on the village where the missionaries are starts out quicker.

•There is a new scene where the missionaries are at the prison camp. They talk about the treatment and torture of the prisoners.

•After the pastor told Rambo about the missing prisoners, the hammer scene is a bit different. Instead of Rambo’s voiceover where he says, “war is in his blood and all…” you hear a voiceover / prayer from the pastor.

•There are some slight variances in the rescue of the missionaries.

•After the rescue, Rambo now notices that Sarah hurt her foot and he wraps it up.

•There is a longer goodbye scene between Rambo and Sarah at the conclusion of the brutal warfare resolution of Act III.

The film still looks and sounds fantastic. Overall, It's a worthy addition to the collection if you're a fan, which I am. So, I've started watching the RAMBO: TO HELL AND BACK Production Diary, which has some great behind-the-scenes footage as well as Sly narrating about the details.

Not impressed with the review of THE EXPENDIBLES in this month's Empire, in which Genevieve harrison describes the last Rambo film as "ILL-ADVISED, ILL-FATED"!

Now, whilst everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I think she's being unfair to what was the best of the sequels. It has much better developed plot and characterisation than the other two (although i still enjoy them immensely).

Seems like plain snobbery to me.

I caved and bought the Rambo BD boxset, so i wont be buying the extended cut now i'm afraid. The price was just too good for all four blu rays together!

OOOH! I've been asked this a few times! I love 'em all of course, even the (unfairly) much-maligned RAMBO III. ok in order of preference now -

FIRST BLOOD
RAMBO IV
RAMBO III
RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II

but as I say, I love 'em all. How about you DK?

The Production Diaries are an excellent companion piece to the behind-the-scenes stuff on the original blu-ray release. It's interesting to see how much work went into the shoot which was clearly not an easy one in the Thailand jungles. And Sly can be a bit of a perfectionist / taskmaster but he's also a funny guy, joking around with cast and crew. I laughed out loud when he tells Julie Benz (Sarah) that "The only reason you got this fuckin' job was 'cos Cate Blanchett was busy!" It's good-natured stuff and I can't wait to see a similar doc for THE EXPENDABLES.
