Ryan Reynolds is a very good actor and very entertaining - whether its a piece of work like The Nines, wise-cracking in Blade Trinity, or being the best thing in The Wolverine Movie with only the 3 scenes he had. But while the costume will be much different - won't the character be very similar? Even if one of them is a merc and the other a Crime Fighter? Would not one movie diminish the other? Perhaps an expert on Deadpool and The Green Lantern could enlighten me. Sometimes all it takes is different haircuts for characters to look different, if not sound different.

I have to say I'm sad that it means that Reynolds now almost certainly won't be The Flash but actually it's probably a savvy career choice. Green Lantern is fun but a lot more straight laced than a Flash movie no doubt would have been. Probably playing Flash would have irreversibly type cast Reynolds as the fast talking sarcastic guy. This film serves a chance for him to break that well. I'm ecstatic that it isn't Timberlake.

 I like Reynolds and find him a pleasant and charismatic actor. However, I tend to think this may be a miscast role. He may well surprise but the role will require drama and the character has never been particularly suited to humour which seems to be Reynolds stock and trade.

Can't wait for this. Hope It's followed by a good Super Man movie - with a decent baddy - Dark Seid or Dooms Day or even a done well Lex Luther. Wouldn't it be good if Richard Donner was allowed an other go? Or even the Smallsville guys? I'd like to see a Bats movie with a decent Robin (All Star - Frank Miller Style). Flash, Wonder Women, Zantana, Captain Marvel, Power Girl and Martian Man Hunter to follow please. Green Arrow looks interesting as well.

I am sure the $100 million that The Proposal has just done at the US Box Office had something to do with it.  That was probably the clincher.  I am sure its likely that Reynolds will do both.  That is unless he is beholden to a contract with one studio or another.  There is simply to much clamour for a Deadpool movie with him after the Wolverine pic, for him to not be signed up.  I'd love to see it so much, I'm actually posting about it!

So, is Green Lantern Universal? and Deadpool a Fox project?  I'm sure they can work something out between them.

Although it would have been interesting to see Coopers take on the role at least we know that the next possible DC franchise is in safe hands, lets hope the script is up to standard.Reynolds is an impressive actor when given the right material and its going to be nice to see him headlining an event movie of this scale.

 im really not sure how i feel about it. i like Reynolds but i still had fingers firmly crossed that he would be cast as the Flash. i think his gift of gab would be put to better use. Dont get me wrong i Like Reynolds and I'm sure he'll do a good job but I cant help feeling a little dissapointed.

Reynolds does not feature in my book of Bad Actors, but he does appear in my much smaller book of Actors Who’ve Played Characters With Atypical Names. Ryan’s entry in this book includes such gems as Jay ‘Boom’ DeBoom, Bobby Rupp, Paul Nodel, Henry Lipschitz, Captain Excellent, and Kevin. Could it be that Ryan’s choice of characters is based on the fact that his middle name is Rodney? Ryan, I know you’re reading this, let us know.

This would be great news if I hadn't already got myself all excited about Reynolds playing Flash and Deadpool.

All the casting choices - Reynolds, Cooper and even Timberlake - seem to suggest that Martin Campbell will be taking a slightly humourous, wry approach to Green Lantern, which, given that the series is, at times, frickin' ridiculous, can only be a good thing. His colleague is a space pig, for God's sake! (Okay, don't shout at me, I'm sure Kilawog isn't actually a space pig. But that's how he always looked to me). And don't get me started on the Green Lantern poem.

 Im reasonably happy with this choice, I will be able to crow on about how I remembered what the star was like in films like Blade 3 to my friends and they wont know what im talking about, which I really like!

Anyway Green Lantern was always for me my second DC fave after Batman and Martin Campbell can do no wrong in my book. I also think that this may be the one time when an overuse of CGI may actually not spoil a film but improve on it (I may want to take that back later).

Leaving aside the obvious man crush that Chris Hewitt seems to have on Mr. Reynolds - this would seem to be a logical choice. And halleulah!!! A DC comic book hero comes to the big screen who isn't called Superman or Batman.......COME ON WARNER BROS. GET YOUR FINGER OUT!!!!!

i think this is great news, i doubt the makers of deadpool would want him baring his face now, which means we will get masked deadpool, the way deadpool should be. Im sick and tired of watching films with masked characters being unmasked, spiderman 1,2, and the god awful 3 being my case in point.
