Don't care, not discussing it.

And don't you dare turn Hughes nice horror thread into another scene of 300 discussion devastation, Deviation.

Hallowe'en 2 wasn't the season of the witch one, was it?

What you really need is a ref to Nick Cave, Phil Collins or The Muppets. And I just gave you all three.

                                                             THE INTRUDER

Only bought this today after being told about it on the Slasher thread and only just finished watching it, This 80's horror flick has zero budget, not so good acting. and ropey FX.....but its friggin brillient.

Directed by Scott Spiegel a man who Quentin Tarrantino personally thanks for the movie life he as got today and from what I only thought had directed one movie-the not so good sequel Dusk till Dawn 2, this old style slasher is wonderfully done and a must for all fans of this kind of horror..

As I have only watched it once I am breaking the norm here as I ususally gave a full depth description of the movie but as I can not remember the characters names, I just do it like this:

A young woman working at a late night supermarket is confronted by her violent ex, who after a massive bust up with nearly all the staff, gets kicked out of the store and told never to come back.  Only after that...the killings begin....

Starring no other than Sam Raimi (yes the director of Spidey and of course Evil Dead) and a cameo by Bruce-my name is Ash-Campbell.  This is lost gem that does take a while to get going but when the death scenes hit, the wait is well worth it.

This by no means is a five-starrer and of course the script is weak and the scene when the killer reveals his motive will bring tears of laughter, but it was such a joy for me personally to discover this years old film that anyone who likes the Slasher genre, I seriously recommed..

OVERALL: 80's horror that will appeal to fans of Halloween and Friday 13th....a lost treasure to the franchise     3 out of 5

                                                               FUNNY GAMES

One of the few horror films that have divided opinion, especailly on this Forum.  Many hate the film, calling it poor, stupid, and the now infamous rewind scene "silly!".
Many others call it a work of masterpiece, a thrilling ride, with the "rewind" scene a daring piece of cinema...

Myself!

I honestly feel its a brillient well crafted horror, cruel and so uncomfortable to watch and at times jaw-dropping, it really is one of the best horror films to come out in America for many a years.

Michael Haneke who before this directed the likes of Hidden, The Piano Teacher, re-made his own 1997 film in an English language about a middle class family who arrive at their secluded holiday home in the Hamptons for a 2-week vacation.  Soon after, a young man makes a suprise call, and asks to borrow some eggs.  When the man is joined by his friend ( a totally chilling Michael Pitt) what appears to an innocent visit turns into a horrifying ordeal as the two men embark upon atwisted campaign of torment and terror.

Not an happy film, at times you be watching through your fingers, but its such a compelling watch with fantastic turns by Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, that you simply can not take your eyes off.

As for that "rewind" scene.  What can I say. Haneke gives you what you cry out for in terms of expectancy and then pulls the rug right from you and takes it away.  It breaks the horror norm and quite rightly it should not work, but it does, and gives the film an even more unique outlook.

It is a film that has to be seen to be believed, and the only reason that its not a five star, is because as I have wrote that its such a hard to stomach watch, you be thinking of it long after the credits roll.  Its not an enjoyable memory to have..

OVERALL: Simply breathtaking, a film destimed to divide fans of horror for many a years.....4.5 out of 5

                                                                        HOLLOW MAN

Many horror fans will agree with me that this is a Horror.  The final quarter turns this intense thriller into quite simply "The Invisible Man Goes Mental! and turns the flick into a special effects Slasher flick, and becuase of that I am adding this to my collection.

Paul Verhoeven directed and starring the always watchable Kevin Bacon, who as an arrogant scientist discovers a drug that makes animals invisible and decides to use the drug on himself.  What starts as an experiment, turns to horror as his team can not bring him back to a normal state and as the days pass, he grows more and more out of control, losing his mind, and with it turning to violence and murder as well....

The main flaw of this film is, if he is invisible then why does he find the need to kill everyone who knows about the project, why don't he just walk off, never to be found, I mean he is invisible for goodness sake!  You could spend the rest of his life in girls locker rooms if he wanted to.

Everytime I watch this flick, I think of that plot flaw and it quite spoils the viewing as apart from that, its a decent flick, average compared to Verhoeven other films, but decent enough.  The effects are quite good and while the likes of Josh Brolin are relegated to the sidelines and eye candy comes in the form of Elizabeth Shue, its got enough scenes to warrent a repeat viewing, and as I have said Kevin is as always, in great mode, even though you do not see him hardly for the last half.

A sequel did follow with no-one returning that was quite dire, which tried to turn the franchise into some kind of super-hero thing and in return went straight to DVD.  The original though was a huge box-office smash and its worth watching for just Elizabeth Shue escaping from a locked room.  The A-Team eat your heart out!!!

OVERALL: Silly romp that is perfect fodder for a Saturday stuck in viewing.........3 out of 5

As much as I love Verhoeven, I simply can't rate this one, but apparently Verhoeven had no control of this one (quite hard after your last film was Starship Troopers. There was potential, but the the theme of Gyges ring is never examined and the film itself is silly (which is a shame considering Verhoeven has the capabilty of making satires out of film about Bug Wars and robots, and philosophical ones with films starring the Dutch). He usually has the outstanding potential of making a film both silly fun and intelligent. Here it was just silly, not even fun.

Dev....

Glad you love Funny Games, not many like it or understand it,  The constant battle I get about THAT rewind scene.

I honestly think the flim is fantastic and I was thinking for a while of shall I give it 5 stars but it how can I give a film that reward when after watching it haunted me for days.  As a Father myself, seeing their young son like that and the way it was done off camera....well it was an image more scary than the excessive gore of the likes of Hostel and co could ever manage...

I think a lot of the dislike, though, is from people who've seen the original and think as well as making a film they aren't a great fan of, Haneke rather pompously appears not to realise he's undermined his entire point through repitition.

Did we miss Hallowe'en 3 somewhere?

                                                                        COLD PREY

One of the best Slasher films in years and its a shame that many missed it as its a Norway film with subtitiles that many choose not to watch.

It truly is an incredible horror...an old fashioned flick, which is mainly Halloween based in Snowy mountains...  A gang of friends on a snowboarding expedition are enjoying themselves until a gruesome accident forces them to take shelter in the Jotuheiemen mountains in a abandoned ski lodge.

Empty and silent, the lodge seems deserted, but there are secrets there.  Before the day and night has passed, those secrets will come to the surface and those who survive will have discovered the true meaning of terror and will have looked into the very face of evil....

Released to critical praise, the film pays so much homage to Halloween that fans of Michael will lap it up.  The film like every good horror, takes a while to get going as we get to know the likeable characters, and when the boogie-man arrives, well its worth the wait!

The film has a brute outlook with well drawn scares, and while it ticks all boxes of Slash, its done in a spectacular way.  So good it spawned a sequel this year (review soon!), its a huge must for all horror fans...

OVERALL: Its tense, nailbitting, and stylish, watch it before a crap American re-make arrives.......4 out of 5

                                                               FIVE ACROSS THE EYES

While many film festivals lavished praise on this low-budget horror, even winning a prize at the International Film Festival in Johnson City, it is hard to find any positive reviews of this film from anyone.  The "Blair Witch" style shot horror as Five teenage girls on their way home from a football game and become hopelessly lost.  When they stop to get directions, the girls are involved in a minor accident with another vehicle.  Inexperienced and frightened, the girls flee the scene and speed away from the dark and unfamiliar roads.  As they blindly make their way across an area called "the eyes", they are shocked to see a lone headlight behind them.

As the driver of the damaged car begins one assualt after another, the five girls will lose everything in a brutal and shocking ride...

The film shot in like an hand held style will not be for everyone.  It has zero budget and awful acting, but it has to be said the two young directors, Gregg Swinson and Ryan Thiessen do very well with their limitations and underenath the film does have a feeling of a great movie underneath.

It is quite nasty and savage and at times a bit demented, and many I know really think this is pants, but for me I get what the directors tried to achieve here and you have to admire them for a film that is quite clearly made for the sum total of 100 quid....

OVERALL: Like getting your friends together and making a horror flick on your own for a laugh, the acting is dire and the camera work werid, if you can get past all that
then the flick as its charm, but be warned it does get quite nasty at parts and that driver is one crazy bitch........2 out of 5
