On the subject of Scorsese, I was so thrilled when I watched Hugo at the cinema recently. I'm a massive Georges Méliès fan and have seen as much of his work as my little fingers can search for on YouTube. I cried (I'm not ashamed to say) a few times throughout the film and all in all found it to be a truly "magical" experience. I had never watched a film in 3D at the cinema before and I'm glad it was a positive experience to start with (I had opted for Tintin in 2D previously). Scorsese (IMO) hasn't disappointed.

I absolutely 100% agree with you there, his passion for film inspires me, it really does. There's a four hour documentary that he did about American cinema, I really do want to track it down someday, I've only seen segments on Youtube



Here it is, I rewatch it every 12 months or so, such a great doc. His recent film on Elia Kazan was great too.

I want to see Hugo soooooooooo bad It doesn't come out in Aus until January 12th apparently which depresses me to no end. And I agree, I'm yet to see a 3D film at the cinema but I'm definitely keen on seeing Hugo or Tintin in 3D. He hasn't disappointed me yet either, some people hate his last few (minus Hugo), but I adore The Departed and I liked Shutter Island. My favourite is still probably Goodfellas which I watched for the first time at the ripe old age of 9

Well, it's something to look forward to then. Definitely worth seeing Hugo in 3D IMO. I preferred to see Tintin in 2D which was equally as ace as viewing Hugo in 3D but different strokes for different folks and all. The effects in Tintin film are just awesome.

I just watched After Hours. Another brilliant Scorsese movie, who woulda' thunk it?

So, I'm pretty much decided now that he's the best American director ever. I can't think of anyone who's got as many truly great films as him.

Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
Casino
The Departed
Mean Streets
King Of Comedy
After Hours
Bringing Out The Dead

All absolutely brilliant films, and Taxi Driver is one of the best films ever made. Still some I need to see as well; Last Temptation Of Christ, Kundun, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore just to name a couple that are on my 'must watch' list.

After Hours is a superb film! I remember watching it all those years ago on TV one night, and it stayed with me. Its a comedy of errors and really brilliantly told. Not to mention a great cameo by the master himself.

You really need to watch The Last Temptation of Christ; its one of my favourite Scorsese films. Everything about it is superb. The music, the cinematography, editing, and Defoe is excellent in it, as the tortured, self doubting Christ. Harvey Keitel also puts in a great performance as the sympathetic Judas aswell as Harry Dean Stanton who plays Paul/ Saul. Scorsese knows his actors well and always chooses the best ones for each role, whether supporting, or main.

I just love the last act in that film. Oh just go and watch it!

I have to still to watch Kundun too. Aswell as Boxcar Bertha one of his earlier fares.

Scorsese truly is the greatest American director in film, bar none.

Who doesn't love the rolling stones. Taxi Driver is my favourite film and is the greatest film ever made. Scorsese is an overlooked genius. People tend to perfer Spielberg because his films are not as difficult as Scorsese's. The man is God.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Spielberg is one of my favourite directors and I cannot tell you how much shit I get for that. Trust me, Scorsese is the more popular of the two
