I think it goes without saying that the transporters in Star Trek are the way to go.... first thought of the one in The Fly, but the risk there has been well documented.

Just let me have Frank Martin and his BMW 735! He doesn't know the meaning of a traffic-jam or a strike! You mustn't break the rules though.....

..what the hell. It's 'Preying' mantis. 'Praying' mantis conjures a completely different image. and besides, I think they're generally agnostics.

...but then again the spice, Melange allows you to fold space and travel instantaneously. London might seem a little small after that.

I'll gladly take the owl ship. Other pros include coffee maker and good for long distances (and probably fuel efficient if it can make it from New York to Antarctica on a tank of gas).

Actually, it IS "praying mantis". Try googling "preying mantis" and see what comes up.

I presume the name comes from the fact that the stance with which they hold their legs/claws/arms/whatever makes it look as though they are praying.

Still tying thousands of balloons to my house – I’ll let you know if it’s a viable option.

Spot on - encyclopedia definition of a mantis includes the line:

A colloquial name for the order is "praying mantis", because of the typical "prayer-like" stance, although the term is often mis-spelled as "preying mantis" since mantises are notoriously predatory.

I do love it when pedants are corrected. It's a special sort of glowy feeling correcting those accustomed to correcting. As a pedant myself, I do have to be extra certain that my corrections are, indeed, correct.

Try this one at parties folks: If somesays "octopuses" and a pedant wades in saying it's "octopi", then do butt in and say, "well, actually, it's 'octopodes'". And then make sure you have a camera for the face they will inevitably pull...

'Fowler's Modern English Usage states that "the only acceptable plural in English is octopuses," and that octopi is misconceived and octopodes pedantic.'

That picture of the 'Jedi' Speeder-bike is the funniest thing I've seen in ages. Cheered me up no end!
