do the Ultimate/Definative T1 dvds have the original Dirty Harry-esque gun blasts as on the vhs...instead of the pathetic air gun noises that are on the SE 2 disc dvd (which also has the awful dvd subtitles at the start instead of the proper text)

I know for certain that the UE has the original text at the beginning and not the subtitles.

Don't know about the gunshot sounds I'm afraid.

I'm sure one of the Region 1 versions has the original mono mix on it. That should have the original gunshots.

Is the Ultimate Edition the same DVD as the Definitive Edition that was released as a steelbook and re-released in an Amaray case ?

I got the second one but the package on the first is nicer.

What the hell is this one ? .....

This looks like it's just a re-release to cash in on Salvation. Nowhere in the first film does the graphic on this cover fit . Anywhere. There's no extras on it either and I don't know what print it is.

Oh and I'd also like to know what the state of affairs is with these sound effects for the gun shots. After a quick read of this DVDBeaver.com review here and it sounds like the first Region 1 DVD had the original mix whereas the second had the fancy effects . I don't know what this means for the Region 2 releases though.

GOD DAMN!!

Just last week i replaced my special edition because of the shitty dvd generated subtitles, so on Friday night i happily watched T1 in all its original text glory only to notice that the gunblasts sounded off, i didn't really pay much attention to it until now................and having checked it again those gun blasts are pathetic

DEMAND THE MONO SOUNDTRACK!!!!

Yeah, sounds like the Region 2 UK releases have the "new" sound effects for the gun shots.

They could have easily put a better sound for the gun blast in the DD remix - I din't know why they chose the sound of a fucking silenced pistol.

My worn out VHS from when I was a kid is where the memory bank delves up theous sound memories from so his sound will always make the "poooww-kum" that a magnum should make.

It's one of those annoying things that often happens when an older film is remixed for 5.1 that things are inevitably changed. Usually it is small enough to go unnoticed by all but the hardcore fans but sometimes as here it obvious even to more casual fans.

I wish they'd include the original soundtrack as well as the new mix as standard on all such discs so at least we have the choice.

See this is crazy. You've got these nutters harping on about how great blue ray is and yet they can't even get the DVD release correct!! and there's people still holding on to VHS copies.

People are hanging onto VHS copies and you are calling us Bluray owners nutters???

I am trying to get hold of the US Bluray version of T1 and see what the lossless sound is like. It's bloody expensive though with the pound the way it is at the moment.

Yeah, blueray's overhyped. Does the blueray released in UK/Ireland have the original gun shot sounds ?

There hasn't been a European release of it yet but the US release is region free.

It has the best picture and sound quality The Terminator has ever had.

Errr! Sorry Hans, wrong guess. Would you like to go for Double Jeopardy where the scores can really change?

The new Blu-ray still uses the botched 5.1 from the DVD with wrong sound effects and missing music cues.

Which music cues are missing?

During the opening credits and the truck explosion near the end IIRC.

Never noticed this before. The only thing I noticed was Schwarzenegger's middle leg. I have to say that releasing a prestige title with bad sound and meager bonus content is an odd move on Fox's part.

Also: am I the only one who has trouble accessing the bonus content?

Are you referring to his nude scene?

In the wide shot of Schwarzenegger coming towards the punks his Austrian sausage is lot easier to see on the blu-ray.
