It did address the issue of Schuster's rapping, which lets face it, needed to be done.

Is it me, or has the wheelchair kid (I'm rubbish at names) gotten really annoying? Not just the song with the new blonde lad ("I haven't had any balls in my mouth... have you?") when he did the rap thing, but in other songs where others are singing he kept doing this thing with his hand, as if to say, "yes, I really enjoy this song and this is my way of showing that enjoyment". Just, reeeeeally annoying.

But then, my favourite bits are always when they do the showtunes. Any time they try to be modern and relevant, I just cringe. The whole bit where they go outside to try and recruit others by singing outside - just, awful.

And to make matters worse, I read that they're going to do a Rocky Horror episode. God it's going to be horrible.

All in all, not a promising start to season two, really.

I recently saw the first episode of series 2 and it was such LAZY writing. My main beef was the fact that all they've done was revert all the characters to how they were at the start of Season 1. Goodbye, Character Development.

Quinn S1 - Cheerleading bitch S2 - Cheerleading bitch
Rachel S1 - Self obsessed to the point of evil S2 - Self obsessed to the point of evil
Finn S1 - Identity issues S2 - Identity Issues
Glee Club S1 - 'Slushied' in the face S2 - 'Slushied' in the face
Sue S1 - Vendetta against Will S2 - By the end of the episode, a vendetta against Will
Figgins S1 - Spineless idiot S2 - Spineless idiot yet now with the added bonus of being the most irritating character on TV

To be honest I really couldn't care less about the changes in character, plot or whatever. It's a comedy, and it continues to be funny. That's really all that counts, and lazy writing for me in a comedy is unfunny writing, which it doesn't have.
Why not just not worry about all the other stuff and just enjoy what is a fun show?

I can see where Swords is coming from, though it's not the first time this has happened in Glee. The last series had a couple of episodes where characters seemed to regress or were oblivious to previous changes and development, and it was weaker because of it. I think it'll take a few episodes to see where they're going with it, hopefully they'll get back on track.

And plot, character and continuity have as much a place in comedy writing as they do in any other type of show. If all I'm interested in a ream of gags, I'll go see some stand up.

Maybe it's going to turn into a realistic show, in which people don't change or change very little. Except it will have people bursting into song.

Personally, I felt the show started believing its own hype and got lost up its arse somewhere in the middle of Season 1. It now just panders to such a camp crowd that it's lost the edge it began with. It's the new Ugly Betty!

Well episode 2 turned out to be yet another sycophantic disaster. Don't get me wrong, I like Ms Spears, but these 'isn''t .... wonderful/inspiring blah blah' episodes are weak. Far too many songs crammed in with tenuous links to the story. The Toxic number was the only one where the Glee affect was really used to its best. It's a shame really, as there were elements of great writing and sharp one liners in this episode trying to peak through, but they got lost in the guff.

I'm with Satan on this. (Not a phrase I use often, I have to admit...)

I thought it was great. But then, that's probably because I lead the Britney Fan Club. That's Britney S. Pears, not Britney Spears. The Britney on Glee is a work of genius. I said it before, but pretty much every word from her mouth is just comedy insanity. "It's like a Jewish cloud." And, since this episode had a significant amount of Britney then I could forgive that it was a Britney Spears episode. Even if I do have fond associative memories of Hit Me Baby One More Time (school in general) and Toxic (my son would bop to it when he was a baby...).

Also...

I kinda agree with everyone here. I enjoyed the episode because I've always quite enjoyed Britney Spears' music (and she's hot) and because Brittany Pierce totally rocks (and she's hot). "This room looks like the one on that spaceship where I got probed." I'm glad the writers seem to have realised what comedy gold that character is and how well Heather Morris plays her. I'm also pleased to see Emma back, because I adore her mentalness. On the other hand, the episode was really disjointed and was really an excuse to shoehorn as many Britney songs in  as possible, except done much less successfully than they did with the Madonna episode. At least Britney's actual appearances were short and amusing, but generally I feel Glee needs to stop with the stunt casting and rely on the quite wonderful cast they already have. I see Gwyneth Paltrow is going to appear now too. Come on! I know she and Ryan Murphy are friends and some of the characters on his previous high school effort Popular thought she was the epitome of class, but I'm not interested. Unless her head is in a box.

Spoilers lolz.

Pierce makes more sense than Pears, actually. But yeah, you'll have to fight me for her, Nomi.

Thought episode 3 was really good. Not the easiest of subjects to tackle, but I think they treated it well. The 'I wanna hold your hand' number had me getting all teary eyed and it was nice to see Kirk have an episode that didn't focus entirely on sexuality. Kirk's dad is fast becoming one of my favourite characters too.

I agree on I Wanna Hold Your Hand, great cover. Don't have any complaints about it at all.

Also, on the week they do a Beatles song, they beat one of their records.

I thought the religious aspects were a bit heavy handed, especially as Kurt is not just the only one who doesn't believe in God but is then dragged to church....

I'm just joking, kind of.

However I thought Sue's scene on her views on religion was the best in the episode.

Probably. I've got Star Trek on the brain at the minute... just ordered my Spock ears for my Halloween costume.

Yeah, I think in their attempts to show as many different aspects of spirituality they really couldn't explore certain things in depth, plus the church bit was there really just to have a gospel choir set piece. I would have preferred a character who was an atheist or agnostic simply not on the basis of some lifestyle/life experience, but simply because they don't buy it. But hey, it's Glee, not Newsnight.
