It is disturbingly similar.

Is it just me or is the bass riff in I Belong To You practically identical to Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs?

There's barely a similarity at all. The first two or three notes are similar, but the rest is completely different.

I'm coming a bit late to this thread, but I've only got round to giving the new album a really good listen in the last few days.

Cards on the table first.  I've been buying the band's CDs for 10 years now, having first been alerted to them when Muscle Museum was released.  I loved Showbiz, despite friends' protestations that it was nothing more than an album for Radiohead fans who thought Kid A was too much of a departure ("what's so bad about that anyway?" I would counter).  I've watched their rise with mixed feelings, partly happy to be vindicated for praising them so much in the beginning, partly disappointed with their musical direction.  Black Holes and Revelations took a lot of work on my part to get into (though Starlight was an instant favourite), and I still ranked it as the worst of their studio albums.

Then came The Resistance.  And rather than advance the band, it's seen them take a giant leap backwards in my opinion.  Pomposity and bombast have a place in rock music, granted, but there's such a thing as too much.  Overall, the album comes off sounding like the lost tapes from Queen's Flash Gordon soundtrack or ELP's fevered dreams - The Musical.  That's not to say its all bad - MK Ultra and Guiding Light are indications of how awesome the album could have been, had they not decided to disappear up their own arseholes.

And lets face it- if it gets Glen Beck off, it has no place in my collection!

I'm getting tickets for Wembley, because they were fucking astonishing Friday night. The Resistance works so much better live, even Guiding Light - which I think could be Muse's worst song - is good live.

Does anyone know if standing at Wembley will be 45 quid coz on their website it says

Tickets go on general sale at 09:00 Friday 20th November and will be priced at 45.00 plus booking fee. In addition, level 2 seating at Wembley will be available at 65.00 plus booking fee.

I'm confused.

An extra Wembley date has been added due to phenomenal demand. Muse will now play on Friday 10th September.

New album out this September called: The 2nd Law.

Here's what they said about the new album:~

quote:

ORIGINAL: Digital Spy

Muse have revealed that their next album will be "radically different" to their previous material.

The 'Knights of Cydonia' band are currently working on their sixth studio album, which they recently revealed will likely see an October 2012 release date.

Bassist Chris Wolstenholme explained that they are planning to "move on" from the sound of their previous work, including 2009's The Resistance.

"[The band] feel like we are drawing a line under a certain period of what we've done in our career," he told Kerrang. "It feels like it's time to move on and do something radically different."

He explained that trying out a different style of album can prove tricky, but added: "Then you could get into the studio and go back to what you're comfortable with.

"You get in the studio and there's a natural process and you have to see where a song will take you."

Interesting

Survival is terrible. I'm beginning to lose my faith in this band, I wanted another album along the lines of Origin of Symmetry or Showbiz, but they are becoming too OTT musically, a Queen-esque imitation. I'll still get the album though, mainly because I'm a completist.

Having went through the album once and a bit - Madness is a fuckin' tune; Panic Station is a hilarious Thriller pastiche in a half laugh-with, half laugh-at kind of way (which is the best way, really); Supremacy is a hilarious Kashmir pastiche in a half laugh-with, half laugh-at kind of way (which is the best way, really); I remember Unsustainable being good also but not why. Middle portion of the record was quieter so I didn't really twig the best bits from there. Good was somewhat offset by the bass player doing karaoke Muse on two tracks. Creeping feeling that Matt Bellamy will not return from disappearing up his own arse is yet to be arrested (which is the best way, really). Ridiculous.

Will have another listen at some point.

Enjoyed this a fair bit on the first couple of listens. Supremacy is a rather ridiculous  mix of Led Zep, Morricone and Bond and Madness is great. I like Survival as well - it's a fun tune and I think some might be taking it a bit too seriously. Big Freeze is a good tune as well - if very U2. Not their best perhaps but pretty good stuff.

Listened to it tonight expecting it to be rubbish but actually liked it. Certainly better than The Resistance. Panic Station is very good, Madness is cool, and Survival is still naff. The Dubstep influence didn't bother me too much.

I was never a fan of early Muse. I used to like their music but thought that his voice ruined it... and then Black Holes came along and all that changed (although I realise that its at this stage when most of their hardcore fans were jumping ship). I was brought up on Queen and pomp glam rock so tbh I view Holes and Resistance as excellent albums... The 2nd Law. It's good not great although i'm sure it'll grow on me once its had a few more plays in the car. I think Madness is a fantastic track and tbh I bought the album on the strength of that track alone - oh and it only cost me 6.49 from Sainsburys too so I can't really complain too much if it doesn't quite scale the brilliance of Black Holes and Resistance!

Bought it last night. Survival is pretty pants, Madness and Panic Stations stand out immediately, nothing else grabbed me as much but hopefully future listenings will change that.
