What a wicked, scary, fun, frightening movie!

Raimi back to what he does best! A breath of fresh air from all that torture porn and rubbish rehashes of vintage films for teenagers. If you are after that youll hate this and may complain its just funny, rather than scary - but anyone who loves the anarchic, dont know whats coming next ball of energy that Raimis horrors bring - you'll love this!

SPOILER Coming....
Thought after watching it - would be brilliant to have a sequel with someone ging down to hell to rescue that poor girl/face off against all those nasties and even Mr Lucifer himself- and who better for that job than our Ash? That would be momentous!
Come on Raimi! Evil Dead 4:Drag you to hell 2 - Dragged back from Hell!
SPOILER end

The best film ive seen this year Raimi is back to show how real scary movies are done.
You really must see this in the cinema to see how scary some parts are.
The best horror film in ages 10/10

This is , of course, incredibly silly; but Raimi has shown a deft hand at dealing with such material before with his Evil Dead flicks, and the plot is handled very much with its tongue pressed against its cheek. Christine, despite having the demeanour of someone who is sweet and kind, is really not that likeable; which was a smart move by Raimi, as it subverts the film in a way that you might not be rooting for her, yet still interested in her plight. Lohman does a fine job of playing terrified but determined, and actually manages more than a few laughs in the process.

Sure, there are faults; most of the supporting players serve little purpose other than to push the plot forward, but. Drag Me To Hell is the kind of horror film you thought they didn't make anymore, and is all the more enjoyable for it.

Am I the only one who was left quite upset?
The end was a really downer...but I enjoyed the film. Quite silly and not very scary but definitely fun.

Not a massive horror fan...or let's say it takes a good horror film to do anything for me and there really aren't too many of those out there let's face it. This on the other hand is fantastic ! It's entertaining, it's funny, a bit creepy, gory and very well made. In fact it's just downright entertaining. See it if you want to restore your faith in this type of horror...you see, there are some people who know how to make it !

I saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. BUT, for me it didn't really work as a proper horror film, I didn't find it remotely scary or chilling. I found it about as horrific as Evil Dead 3, which would be not at all. And with that in mind I'm finding it a little strange that this film is being sooo hyped up as the best horror film in years.
But it's more icky sequences did make me laugh a lot, it also made me jump a couple of times with some run of the mill ''Boo'' scares (which if done so frequently by any other director would probably be noted as a bad point by most reviewers) and it moved along at a brisk pace.
It was nice to see Raimi let loose a little, and made me imagine the type of shit he could pull with Evil Dead 4 if it ever gets the greenlight.
A 3/5 for me.

On a negative note I thought the lead female character was a rather poor actress, some of her line delivery was, cringe worthy, terrible. It really took me out of the film a few times

This is PG?

No-one would want to take their children to a film called Drag Me To Hell and as a horror fan I'd be hesitant to see a horror film without any blood in it...

EErrrm, it's a 15.
And even though i didn't find it particularly frightening, surely there can be more to horror films than blood and gore squirting everywhere. I crapped over The Orphanage, and there was barely any bloodshed.

Hugely enjoyable. I only jumped once but I had a chill down my spine all the way through nearly. Got a bit silly with the seance and the goat but the build up with the wind and shadows was top notch. More horror Raimi!

Ps. Alison Lohman is hot as hell.

*****SPOILERS*****

Drag Me To Hell is definitely one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had at the the cinema for quite some time.

As a horror film, the film works well enough but it's not up there with the best of them. There are a number of tense moments and some genuine jumps, but these are usually offset with some wickedly black humour that, whilst incredibly funny, takes the sting out of the horror moments. This will be disappointing for some, but I think it's one of the films strengths.

The plot is pretty paper-thin and character motivations move around a little too much in order to serve the plot and lurch from one scene of torment to the next (an example being Christine's boyfriends sudden change from being an out and out skeptic of the occult into someone who 'doesn't know what to believe anymore'). When the films is this much fun, however, I can overlook it.

There really is much to enjoy, and if you go and see this with a good group of people and get a great audience, this is a great viewing experience. Whilst the only moment of genuine terror for me came when the Rham Jas was reading Christine's palm and there was a fiery flash of her tormentor, I spent most of the time laughing my ass off with my friends at the gross out humour. My highlights have to be the old woman 'gumming' Christine, and the camera pulling out as Christine is being tormented by the lamia to reveal the 'Hang In There Baby' poster.

I like Alison Lohman as an actress, plus I fancy the pants off of her. However, I would agree with a poster above me who said that her performance dropped off towards the end. I think she wasn't helped by some of the dialogue she had to say towards the end, particularly during the graveyard scene.

A very funny gross out horror that is best seen with a large group of people.

8/10.

I went to see this last night and i'm still buzzing! What an amazing film!
This has to be seen at the cinema for the full effect - it's loud, scary, nonstop and will definitely make you scream.
Sam Raimi demonstrates masterfully how a horror movie should be made - you get the feeling that he's sticking his finger up to the brainless studios that are churning out rubbish carbon copies of everything that has been before and just proves that in this day and age you CAN be original!
An absolute masterpiece.
Sam Raimi we salute you!!

I agree with everyone that says this is good stuff... it's full of jump scares, which is difficult to get right nowadays, and plenty of dark humour. You can't take any of it seriously... it's just a joyous ride from beginning to end and, at the least, worth the cinema entry price.

I'm not quit the horror buff i really only prefer the classics (The Exorcist, The Omen, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) but this has to be up there as one of the best horror films in the last decade, i'd put it up there with the likes of the blair witch project and the first saw film. I don't think sam rami cant make a bad horror film it just comes natural to him. The story is good with the occasional scare here and there, and there very strong performances from Alison Lohman, Justin Long and especially Lorna Raver very freaky indeed. The ending has a slight twist  which i didn't see coming and only sam rami could pull off. If you liked any one of the films in the evil dead trilogy you'll truly enjoy this!

I am not a fan of recent horror films - as they became simply "torture porn". I was going to wait for the DVD release but I'm glad I went to the cinema. It is great to see Sam Raimi on top form again - almost as good as Evil Dead 2. It is a great roller-coaster ride and you should drag all your friends to see the film (or threaten to put a curse on them)!!!

I loved it. Although IMO she wasn't that much of nob to warrant being dragged to hell. Still one can only hope for a sequel 'Save Me From Hell'. Long's character could have an uncle Ash to help lend a hand as they bust Cris out of hell. Also any film with gypsy's fighting demons I can dig!! Loved that prologue at the start.

This was one hell of a treat! My friend crushed her box of popcorn, and myself, a lifelong horror buff, found this fantastic, tense fun. It's so good to see a director truly back on form, stripping his work right down to what made him great in the first place, rather than turn out a sub-standerd sequel/prequel. Lucas and Spielberg take note: THIS is how you get back in touch with your roots.

Just got back from seeing this... adjectives to describe Drag Me to Hell:

Shite, bad, horrendous, piss poor, boring, unfunny, not scary, shite - oh I already mentioned that!

Seriously, I could not believe how bad this film was. Originally I thought the 15 cert might have had an effect on it but now i've seen it, it's got more to do with the whole film being hinged on such a weak storyline. I have honestly seen better straight to DVD titles than this (in fact, I watched Laid to Rest last night and would recommend buying that over watching this).

I seriously can't understand where all the grea reviews are coming from because even the moments where the Evil Dead refs were obvious, it just felt crap in comparison and i wished I was watching those films instead. I wish I could say Spiderman 3 was a mis-step but on this evidence, it appears Raimi is on a downward trajectory!

Overall: * (Awful!!)

I very much doubt that! The majority of folks exiting the screening I saw were all saying the same thing, i.e. it was crap! It was such a disappointment - a series of really tired cliches hinged on a such a weak storyline does not make a refreshingly fun masterpiece!  Plus, what the hell was with the CGI flying eyeball. Oh dear!!!

Anyways, if other folks loved it - that's great. Different strokes for different folks as they say!

Well its unlike all the other recent horror remakes/sequels/reboots and every few minutes someone gets killed gruesomely which ya dont see coming. In this its a bit like The Exorcist with the whole seance idea and more into the spiritual side of things then gore.

I know. I mean the people in it didn't even pause for breath when they were talking they just carried on talking and the script obviously didn't have any full stops or even commas in it i couldn't believe it

Well as the script was complete dross, like the film, then yeah I'd pretty much agree with that statement. It all just blurred into one big mess!

Saw this last night and thought it was awesome. Scary and laugh out loud funny. This is Raimi back to his Evil Dead best. The talking goat must be best mates with the moose head in Dead by Dawn. The only let down was no Bruce although I did wonder if the disembodied laughing was his. Highly recommended
