The watermark has to be there to protect the exclusive though. There are plenty of movie sites and blogs out there reporting on it already - so until they can do the cheeky scan from the magazine itself, they gotta have a big, f*ck-off Empire logo on it!

I hope Peter Jackson managed to dig out some acting talent from Mark Wahlberg otherwise this bit of casting is going to seriously f**k up what should be a good adaption. The book was marvellous.

And as for Heaven, yawn. Doesn't look any different in that shot from any other depiction of religious fantasy. Jackson is now Kubrick, taking far far far too long to produce a pic that shoulda been released ages ago. It will flop.

And if Jackson is Kubrick, despite being a flop it was be revisited and universally celebrated in years to come.

What an idiotic statement.

This looks like it will take on more of the style of Heavenly Creatures, which is no bad thing. To my (limited) knowledge, the reason this has taken so lond is that Jackson wasn't being shackled by a mjot studio and therefore took his time in PP - and he has been busy with a few other things.............I know it is another thread but whilst I'm fine with the Hobbit spanning the 2 films, I will be bitterly disappointed if there isn't a little bit of bridging if only to allow for the 'return' of Aragorn.

I think that's a little harsh. It probably wont flop. If anything, it will probably be a success due to the cast and fans of the book.
I put a lot of trust in to Jackson as a film maker as he (generally) delivers top films.
As for the imagery, this is how heaven is described, as far as I know, in the bible or whatever. I think it looks quite nice and peacfull.

I'm still not convinced. I dislike the book, the casting of the father is problematic. But I do like Jackson. I'm just not sure if it is enough to get me to part with my cinema £s for this.

I'm sure it'll get loads of critical acclaim, so many critics are insanely generous towards this man.

Charming.

Empire! Such cheek watermarking an exclusive! You should have left it out as you usually do so other sites and bloggers can rip it off without giving credit!

Peter Jackson has already made the films that he will be remembered for. It's all down hill from now on.

Who's the face in the clouds supposed to be?

Oh, and will Jackson make this twice as long as it needs to be, as he did with his bloated version of "King Kong"?

If yer worried about people nabbing the pic and not giving ye credit a small logo in the bottom right would have done fine.

Totally over the top watermark.... FAIL!

"pick up the 20th birthday issue of Empire when it hits on Thursday, or pre-order it here."

Or just wait until it becomes available as a PDF on a torrent site... LOL

a bit of an over reaction to the watermark lads. feel the matter of more importance is the current form of Mark Whalberg. Having watched Max Payne the other day, I just can't get over how bad he was in it!he'd acting was terrible, and the seen where he's tryin to cry when some lad is talkin shit about his wife an kid, is the most cringing scene i'v ever seen him in (iv seen the scene where he talks to the plant in the happening). So i pursume this film will involve crying an gettin emitional, so my big worry is if he will be able to handle it.

Believe me...I've read the script and Heaven will look nothing like that in the film. I think this pic is just for promo purposes or for the poster to convey the "heavenly" aspect to people.

As much a fan I am of LOTR, I cant see this being any good. The book was dull and drawn out (something Jackson is very familiar with) and the casting is ALL wrong. Rachel Weisz and Saorsie Ronan are the only good things about this film

I'm reading the book now, and I love it. Though I agree that the casting of Wahlberg as the father is problematic. I don't think he can pull off the type of emotion he's character tries to evoke, I just don't see Wahlberg as that sort of actor.

i hope to god wahlberg can pull it of but i keep having nightmares about the happening.still i'm sure jackson wouldn't have picked him if he didn't think he could do it and he was on fire in the departed so let's cross everything and hope for the best

I liked the first half of the book, but the rest was so soppy I wanted to vomit, so I hope Jackson brings the drama back into the final half. Like the look of the pic though.
