I got that figure for 2.99 in the local Smyth's here in Newry, it has an old school charm.

Exactly why I snared it. Plus he looks cool on the same shelf as Boba Fett and some chap in black called 'Snake-Eyes'

Loved the original Lundgren effort, loved the Tom Jane one even more but felt a little dis-satisfied with Stevenson's outing. It just felt a little too blood soaked and didn't have the strong villain like the Tom Jane movie had. And the very first '89 movie got away with the pointless violence because it was the 80's. You can't really escape with both testicles if you do it in 2008.

I haven't seen this Punisher yet, have always wanted to but waiting for a DVD release. It's got to be better than the Tom Jane one though, which might as well have been Disneys Punisher!
I did enjoy War Zone, I thought Ray Stevenson played the part really well!

Probably down to nostalgia and the era when I was REALLY into THE PUNISHER comics (inc. WAR JOURNAL, WAR ZONE, ARMORY etc.) but Mr. Lundgren will always be Snake-Eyes' chosen Frank Castle.

I just had to defend Punisher: War Zone after reading this article. I still demand more people watch it. A parkour runner is blown up with a rocket launcher!

I quite like it, but McNulty comes sooooooo close to ruining the whole film for me. He's a massive slice of ham, with his ridiculously over-the-top Noo Yawk accent and everything.

I'm a fan too. Doesn't Ray Stevenson punch a hole in someones head?

He is the reason I LOVE the film. Need more ham chewing in these comic book movies.

And it was exactly what the film needed... he was fucking awesome in that movie.... Jigsaw's recreuitment scene, with him and Loony Bin Jim convincing the various gangs to join him, was superbly OTT.

Awful, awful film.I like hard core action as much as the next guy,but despite some decent kills, this film was a horribly overacted, campy mess.Worst of all,it was just BORING.

Yet ironically you loved the new Conan film which was all of the above.

Its all i the execution Ti.Conan was fun but Warzone was just boring. The only decent action scene in that is when Castle storms the building at the end.

Anyway, FOX is commissioning a Punisher TV series.Fox eh? If it was Showtime or HBO, I'd more intrigued...

Which studio did The Shield?

I'm quite fond of the 2004 version starring Thomas Jane!

There's a sort of very 80's throwback to the whole man on a revenge mission, and Frank Castle with his wicked bow and arrow reminds me just a little of a certain 80's action hero who didnt take shit from no one!!

I love the characters in the film such as the assassins that are sent to kill Castle, like the guitar playing desperado from hell, Harry Heck and the The Russian!! The latter of whom gives our hero a hell of a beating!! I love the no hold bars violence, which for a comic book adaption is very graphic.

Some people saw The Punisher as a more violent version of Batman. But if only Castle like Batman had a proper nemesis instead of a ridiculously designer goateed John Travolta. There is nothing menacing about his bad guy at all, and as good an actor he is, i thought he was miscast as Howard Saint.

I loved the cameo by Roy Scheider!

What i liked most was the sort of 2nd family that Frank finds when he starts getting friendly with his neighbours, played by Rebecca Romjin, a 'before he was famous' turn from Ben Foster , and John Pinette as Bumpo. Its nice seeing Frank interract with the oddball trio, and finally come to care for them. And they also look out for him, helping him in a tense scene when Travolta's goons come a knocking.

But one of the key villains whom i thought stole the show from under Travolta's nose was Will Patton as the ruthless, violent sadomasochist and closet homosexual, Quentin Glass.

WIll Patton does a very good turn. He was also about the only good thing (playing a baddie) in Kevin Costner's ridiculos post apocalyptic tosh The Postman.

But the one thing that made an impression when i watched it for the first tiime all those years ago, was the sexy turn from Laura Harring as Livia Saint!! She is the ultimate hot mama in that film, and if one good thing came out of this film, was the fact this was my first introduction to this curvy goddess!!! LOL!!

Anyhow, its not a perfect film. But its not a disaster by all means and is perfect film to watch on a boring Sunday evening!!

LOL!! I know Mr. Travolta isnt really a method acting type, but he was good in a handful of films, like, er Pulp Fiction and em...er....oh boll***ks!! Your right, he is a pretty bad actor!! My bad!!

I wasn't a fan of the '04 version. Mr. Jane simply wasn't bad-ass enough to portray Mr. Castle. And I STILL haven't seen WAR ZONE. And although I admit that the 1989/Lundgren film is far from perfect as an adaptation of the original MARVEL character, it is a good old-fashioned, low-budget actioner which, in my opinion, works to it's advantage. It has a gritty, dark sort of feel that is needed to bring 'The Punisher' to life; nothing 'glossy' or superhero-esque going on. Great soundtrack too. I'd like to see a special edition dvd of this film someday.

I agree. Thomas Jane doesnt possess that natural 'bas ass' charm that a Stallone or a Willis might possess. I think the latter would have made for a very interesting film!! Imagine Bruce Willis locking horns with Travolta again after Pulp Fiction!!

I didnt know there was another version (with Ludgren) prior ro the 2004 version!! I really need to watch that!!

He appears in the wedding scene towards the end, when we see Mary Jane running back to Spidey in her wedding gown, all smiles, and you see a stern looking fellow behind her, thats The Punisher, probably thinking WTF? To himself!!! LOL!! I spotted him in a viewing few years back, thought i was seeing things!!

I thought Jane was the best Punisher by far.I dont know what people are thinking he wasnt ''bad ass'' enough. He did plenty of bad ass shit in that movie. Also,Jane can ACT.His Punisher is the only one i actually gave a damn about.I would have liked to have seen a sequel or two with him.

I hear you Silas, he was okay. I still havent watched the other Punisher movies so cannot really comment on who is best. But like i said, i have a soft spot for the 2004 with Thomas Jane. Maybe its his surname which makes him a little less threatening!! But overall, i like him as an actor. He was really good in The Mutant Chronicles, not to mention The Mist. An underrated actor in my view - would like to see him more.

Punisher Warzone is still the best for me.

He punches a guy so hard in the face that his fist comes out the other side. Amazing!

Also Ray Stevenson is no wannabe actor - he gave an amazing performance in Rome as Titus Pullo.

You know why I like Stevenson's Punisher? He punishes.

A mate just reminded me that when The Punisher interrupts the party at the beginning of War Zone, it's reminiscent of an episode of McBain where he breaks out of the ice sculpture and kills everyone.

That's precisely what I thought when I first saw it a few days ago and I loved it with all my heart.
