ORIGINAL: elab49 A link to the desperate need for a sword? That was one of the odder Twitter updates I saw last week! Apparently Jason Isaacs has just arrived - yay! The man is a hero - hello Jason Isaacs. I'm far from being in full agreement with most of the nominations line ups for this evening, but to get the ball rolling, here's what I'd like to see: Best Newcomer Robert Pattinson Gemma Arterton Jim Sturgess Toby Kebell Hayley Atwood I think Kebell would be deserving too, but I fear it will be either Pattinson or Arterton. Best Thriller No Country for Old Men Quantum of Solace Changeling Gone Baby Gone Eagle Eye I'm hoping/assuming that the sheer quality of NCFOM will win out over all the Bond love. Best Horror The Orphanage The Mist Eden Lake The Strangers Sweeney Todd Would be happy with The Mist too, I thought that was great. Best Comedy Tropic Thunder Son of Rambow Ghost Town In Bruges Burn After Reading Still haven't seen Son of Rambow myself, and from what I've heard that might/should be In Bruges's biggest challenge. Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Superhero Iron Man Wanted Hellboy 2: The Golden Army The Dark Knight WALL-E The Dark Knight will no doubt win it though, but should be WALL-E Best Actor Daniel Day-Lewis Robert Downey Jr Christian Bale Daniel Craig Johnny Depp Far and away the best, as far as I'm concerned, although the fanboy vote might swing it for Bale or Downey Jr Best Actress Angelina Jolie Ellen Page Sally Hawkins Helena Bonham Carter Olga Kurylenko An odd mix here (seriously, Kurylenko?!). Jolie is the best for me - Hawkins annoyed the f*ck out of me! Best Director Christopher Nolan Paul Thomas Anderson Tim Burton Joel and Ethan Coen Andrew Stanton PTA was my pick, but I can see Nolan winning this. Don't begrudge it though, TDK was very well directed. Best Film There Will Be Blood WALL-E No Country For Old Men The Dark Knight Iron Man Again, I think there's a most excellent chance that TDK will actually win this. Best British Film RocknRolla Eden Lake In Bruges Son of Rambow Hunger Honourable mention to Hunger too, which was brilliant in many ways. Best Soundtrack Mamma Mia! Sweeney Todd RocknRolla Quantum of Solace There Will Be Blood Is this score or soundtrack? Sticking with TWBB either way, even though Mamma Mia! is very much my 2008 guilty pleasure!
