That was one of the odder Twitter updates I saw last week!

Apparently Jason Isaacs has just arrived - yay! The man is a hero - hello Jason Isaacs.

I'm far from being in full agreement with most of the nominations line ups for this evening, but to get the ball rolling, here's what I'd like to see:

Best Newcomer
Robert Pattinson
Gemma Arterton
Jim Sturgess
Toby Kebell
Hayley Atwood

I think Kebell would be deserving too, but I fear it will be either Pattinson or Arterton.

Best Thriller
No Country for Old Men
Quantum of Solace
Changeling
Gone Baby Gone
Eagle Eye

I'm hoping/assuming that the sheer quality of NCFOM will win out over all the Bond love.

Best Horror
The Orphanage
The Mist
Eden Lake
The Strangers
Sweeney Todd

Would be happy with The Mist too, I thought that was great.

Best Comedy
Tropic Thunder
Son of Rambow
Ghost Town
In Bruges
Burn After Reading

Still haven't seen Son of Rambow myself, and from what I've heard that might/should be In Bruges's biggest challenge.

Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Superhero
Iron Man
Wanted
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
The Dark Knight
WALL-E

The Dark Knight will no doubt win it though, but should be WALL-E

Best Actor
Daniel Day-Lewis
Robert Downey Jr
Christian Bale
Daniel Craig
Johnny Depp

Far and away the best, as far as I'm concerned, although the fanboy vote might swing it for Bale or Downey Jr

Best Actress
Angelina Jolie
Ellen Page
Sally Hawkins
Helena Bonham Carter
Olga Kurylenko

An odd mix here (seriously, Kurylenko?!). Jolie is the best for me - Hawkins annoyed the f*ck out of me!

Best Director
Christopher Nolan
Paul Thomas Anderson
Tim Burton
Joel and Ethan Coen
Andrew Stanton

PTA was my pick, but I can see Nolan winning this. Don't begrudge it though, TDK was very well directed.

Best Film
There Will Be Blood
WALL-E
No Country For Old Men
The Dark Knight
Iron Man

Again, I think there's a most excellent chance that TDK will actually win this.

Best British Film
RocknRolla
Eden Lake
In Bruges
Son of Rambow
Hunger

Honourable mention to Hunger too, which was brilliant in many ways.

Best Soundtrack
Mamma Mia!
Sweeney Todd
RocknRolla
Quantum of Solace
There Will Be Blood

Is this score or soundtrack? Sticking with TWBB either way, even though Mamma Mia! is very much my 2008 guilty pleasure!

Apparently not, no. Just read on the blog that Dara O'Briain is the host - go homeboy! Good choice of host though, he's a funny guy. Hopefully they'll have some clips of the good stuff up later, or in a videblogisode of sorts.

Best British Film - RocknRolla

Best Actress - Helena Bonham Carter

Who votes for these awards?! I don't mean that as snidely as it sounds. Genuinely, is there any sort of data profiling on who votes? Age, gender, online or from the magazine, that kind of thing? I just can't understand, among others, all the Quantum of Solace love. It was relatively well received, but come on! And I appear to be in the minority of those who thought Wanted was tosh! And as much as I enjoyed it, in no world was RocknRolla the best film in that category. And Helena Bonham Carter?! There's British pride and then there's silly.

Okay, enough giving out that hundreds of other people voted differently to me! Fair due to Son of Rambow (really need to watch that) and Chris Nolan &co.

Hope it was a great evening!

That said, Danny Boyle and Viggo Mortensen got special awards, which I have no problem with whatsoever!

Cannot agree with Best Thriller:
No Country for Old Men
Quantum of Solace
Changeling
Gone Baby Gone
Eagle Eye

Quantum was o.k but surely Changeling or No Country offered more than a sequel that felt the same as the one before it.

Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Superhero
Iron Man
Wanted
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
The Dark Knight
WALL-E

I would pick anyone of the 4 as better than Wanted, Wall - e was visually great.

Best British Film
RocknRolla
Eden Lake
In Bruges
Son of Rambow
Hunger

RocknRolla - was this to cheer up Guy with the ex in the papers N all? In Bruges/ Son of Rambow offered more to British Film i thought

The Mamma Mia! win is really odd, since I didn't think the music or the flick appeals to the kind of people who read the magazine.

You're just mad cos High School Musical 3 didn't even make the shortlist!

After the ridiculous loss of the Oscar for In Bruges writing, I'm shocked at the lack of love over here.

Agreed with eveerything EXCEPT:

Christian Bale Best actor over Daniel Day Lewis? First of all Bale wasn't even best actor in his own film, or even 2nd best actor, let alone against all films of this year. Tut tut Empire voters.

Quantum of Solace should not have won best thriller. No Country or Changeling surely, I mean come on!

PTA should have won best Director but Nolan did a great job too.

Best Film: How in hell could this not have been given to There Will be Blood? It's the film of the Decade! But noooooo...... Dark Knight wins

Jolie probably should have won best actress but I have a soft spot for Helena Bonham Carter so I'll let that slide. (the actual winner should have been Belen Rueda)

Eden Lake was NOT best horror.  The Orphanage clearly was.

Definately biased towards Brittish films, actors/actresses and directors. A lot i didn't agree with.

Best Comedy- Had to be In Bruges

Best Horror-The Orphanage definately watched it again on Friday and it was even better the second time, brilliant film.

Best Thriller- Changeling or Gone Baby Gone should have won, I'd probably go for Changeling.

Best Superhero- Dark Knight

Best Brittish film-Again should have been In Bruges, the only reason i can think of as to why this did not win is not enough people have seen this or people didn't get the Irish  styled humour.

Best Actress- Its a tough one Angelina Jolie was excellent but so was Helena Bonham Carter so I won't argue this one but shame on the earlier poster who slated Helena Bonham Carter, she was excellent in Sweeney Todd, maybe even better than Johnny Depp was.

Best Actor- Christian Bale is good, but shouldn't have won it, that said i can't make up my mind as to who should have won it.

Disagree with every single winner, besides Viggo.

SPEAKING OF. Everyone go and watch the video of his acceptance speech now. Not only is it the most drunken acceptance speech I've ever seen, it's also the funniest. Might have just lost himself a part in The Hobbit though...

Ugh Batman, Batman, Batman. The film wasn't that good!

Mamma Mia! winning an award has deeply disturbed me...

Russell Crowe's acceptance speech/poetry reading was priceless!  The man has a wonderfully ironic sense of humor!

Helena Bonham Carter? Really? I love her but her performance in that film wasn't that amazing. Mind you, none of the nominees were very strong. Also, how on earth did Wanted win best sci-fi/superhero when Iron Man and The Dark Knight were nominated? My poor brain simply cannot fathom that at all. Empire readeres, why??
