Not so much a conventional shoot out, but a whole scene of people being shot/shot at is the end scene of Full Metal Jacket where the Vietnamese sniper takes out Doc, Cowboy and that other fella...pretty tense and awesome with Animal Mother unleashing the beast and the whole 'first kill' aspect for Joker...man I love that film!

P.S I may of had a few Guinesses by this point so forgive the rambling :)

Quality choice. Brilliant use of sound, was there any music in that fight? I dont remember any anf thats probably why the sound of the machine guns were so fucking impressive.

Miami Vice shootout was pretty good IMO though I hadnt really a clue what the film was about, a lot more violent than what i had expected it to be too.

Minority Report in the car factory with the shotguns, short but sweet, wicked scene though and again, i loved the sound!

The ending of Dead or Alive, without a doubt the most fucked up shoot out ever. Anyone who's seen it please can you explain what the main bad guy does

How could everyone forget the opening shootout in Star Wars New Hope. Space Battle, soldiers fighting each other and the very first time we see Darth Vader.

The Guggenheim shoot out in The Internationalist will have to be one of THE shoot-outs of 2009.

just to add a few that haven't already been mentioned...

The Kingdom & Miami Vice have a great shoot out each.

Surprised no one's mentioned any of the shoot outs from Equalibrium. Not a great film but enjoyable enough and the shootouts have some flair and originality.

However no one, not even Peckinpah and Mann, beat John Woo. The end of Better Tomorrow II, the warehouse/hospital scene's in Hard Boiled, the crazy comedy fight in Once a Thief and best of the all the final shoot out in The Killer. While it still has the jaw dropping moments of the other films it's far more emotional as well making it the best by far.

Heat is without a doubt the best.

The shootout in the forest in Pan's Labyrinth is horrific - The final shots fired at those clinging to life, and the cameo from the boys from The Devil's Backbone - just tragic.

Not sure if it could be considered a "shootout", the final duel in Barry Lyndon.

Nice to see a good amount of appreciation for Mr. Woo. I really should get round to watching the Better Tomorrow films. Is no.1 any good>?

Heres a few other gems:

Raiders bar shootout. (couldn't find even nearly a decent picture)

This scene:

in fact Tombstone has loads of great shootouts.

And has this not been mentioned yet??::

Is it very good, although the action isn't as great as Woo's other films. In fact none of the action scene's really stand out to be honest but it's still very enjoyable.

Final shoot out in A Bittersweet Life, totally OTT and looks brilliant. Or the scene where they're racing to put their guns back together to shoot each other!

Heat is probably the daddy though.

I can't really remember, but is that shootout all in one take.

Can't believe no ones mentioned The Way Of The Gun. A few excellent shootouts, but the ending in particular is superbly done.

This thread reminded me that I hadn't watched Hard Boiled in ages so I put in the other night. It really is a fantastic film.

The Mission
Exiled
Time and Tide
Breaking News
Pom Pom and Hot Hot - Stupid movie/amazing shootout at the end
Full Contact - How all you The Killer/Hard Boiled fans miss this one is beyond me
Full Time Killer - Not a great movie but has some really cool shootouts
Bullet In The Head
Shiri
Dobermann
Children of Men
Smokin Aces
The Wild Bunch
The Getaway (not the remake)
Bad Boys 2 (if only this movie had no dialogue)
Just Heroes (another John Woo gem but unfortunately you have to wait until the end)

Hard Boiled all the way!

The 4 minute sequence in the hospital in one take still is a masterpiece of action choreography.

Totally agree! What an underrated film, and, as you say, the shoot outs are magnificent.
