its amazing that although THE SPIDERMAN franchise is a brilliant one, for all the comic book nerds who get wet over SPIDEMAN there is a constant thorn in raimi's side, that thorn comes from the voice of a very pissed off EVIL DEAD fan, SAM FOR F**K'S SAKE, MAKE EVIL DEAD IV, thats what we are all waiting for.

 Let's hope he doesn't over complicate things with the villains again, and i'm hoping he kills off MJ. As a character she's boring and i don't like Dunst.

Seriously,

The last film was awful. The only enjoyable part was Bruce Campbell as a French waiter. Sony should do the sensible thing and surrender the rights back to Marvel in exchange for distribution rights for any future spider-film.

Seriously, if any franchise needs a reboot it's this one. The final film made X3 look well thought through, and turned Peter Parker into an absolute twat. Start again, make him a school boy, and for the love of god make it fun!!!

I'm on board with this one. Have him marry her, only for MJ to be killed very shortly after with Black Cat to help him through. As a character, I like MJ, but I just cannot get on with Kirsten Dunst's incarnation.

Villain-wise, I'd love to see Michael Clarke Duncan back as Kingpin. I'd also enjoy seeing the Man-Spider story arc with either Kraven or Punisher. As for the multiple villain fest, there's a very simple solution - don't bother with monster backstories; they have abilities, they aren't nice - one line of dialogue is sufficient!!!

 Go for the Lizard conclusion as it's been placed in for the three previous films, if Venom had stayed alive would have gone for carnage extension story but there is no way they can cram that in on a 12A rating nor do the characters fuse togther very well with that match up.
 
Just stick with Conners decline and Lizard creation.
 
Agree with MJ death as well at hands of Lizard, therefore you loss of loved one at friend's hands, and subsequent rage/forgiveness issue raising it's head again.

ok i am a sperhero fan, but after the dismal spiderman 3 why bother again? i took my son to see spiderman 3 because his fav villian venom was in it but dont know why i bothered.why have 3 villians instead of 1? there wasnt enough screen time to round all the characters out and venom didnt even feed! seems the curse of the 3s struck again. i agree with horrorguru, make evil dead 4 instead! come on raimi what u waiting for!

 Seriously is everyone a idiot??? the spiderman franchise has made over 1 billion at the american box office alone. u think they will just stop or reboot for no reason?
If they just write dunst mary jane a bit better there be no probs but so far she's had little to do but scream alot. The lizard story has to be the way to go with an already decent established cast.

As for evil dead 4 i agree with campbell. hands up who dissapointed with indy 4 and thinks they should have left alone??? I thought so. Lets no ruin a perfectly good trilogy with a shite 4th

 I should first of all clarify that I am a full on geek, but am I the only one who actually didn't enjoy the Spiderman films that much? The second one was ok - mainly due to a brilliant turn by Alfred Molina (spelling?) - but just watching Tobey and Kirstin was like having teeth pulled out. The CGI was ropey at best in pretty much all three and I just can't bring myself to get excited again about a forth to come out  and be disappointed again !!

Dont get me wrong, I love Sam Raimi and anything with Bruce 'The Chin' Camball in it usually bangs it up another star, but I just didn't like the films. They just all seemed a little, I don't know, flat in comparison to other superhero films?!

Maybe if they were recasting the two main actors I would be a little be more excited and intrigued??

Spiderman was good, spideman2 was awesome only for Doc Ok, but as for the 3rd one i couldnt even watch it without cringing, i just think dunst as mary jane is terrible casting like one of the posts said all she does is scream, and she doesnt do that well either. I think its time Raimi gave up along with sony, let marvel have a go and make it a proper comic book film. That goes for the x men franchise 1 & 2 amazing but 3, good god what an atrocity. Marvel invented the charcters now its time for them to make the superhero films we all want.....

 Everyone who has said that Spidy 1-3 sucks is spot on! I am dreading to see what that clueless idiot Raimi comes up with next! The cartoon series from the early 90's had better scripts and better stories! Raimi has botched Spider-Man (wimp who couldnt keep his mask on) Doc Ok (repenting and saving the day at the end?wtf?) Venom (Venom refers to himself as 'We' not 'I' in EVERY comic he's ever been in!) MJ (damsel in distress over and over and over again!she's a stronger character in the comics) Gwen Stacy (Raimi's use of her is a fucking insulting joke to the original story) Spidy was never popular let alone 'key's to the city everyone loves me!' and Peter Parker was never a piano playing,gay dancing emo twat! Thats a list of things wrong with movies 1-3 and thats not even the tip of the ice berg!
Spider-Man fans, true Spider-Man fans need to unite and say: NO MORE OF RAIMI'S SHITE!

They definitely need to keep to one main villain again, as has already been said, the back story is partly in place for Dr Connors to become the Lizard, so that seems the logical way to go. Personally, I always liked the Scorpion, but I doubt they'll go for him.
 
As for the whole franchise, I think they need to get rid of Tobey McGuire and get in someone that can be taken more seriously.

 ok really , tobey maguire as spiderman ? hes had three movies to convince me( which isnt working ) . would like to see Jake Gyllenhall as spidey , could happily see mj ( dunst ) disappear for a while maybe introduce Black Cat as a character ( possible Amber heard casting here )

admittedly though i did like spidey 2 the story was good and the ending mostly, minus that " ive always been standing in your door " line

As long as it doesn't end with a Mary Jane held captive by villian, Spidey swings in to save her and/or A villian seeking sympathy/retribution at the end i'll be happy. But yeah either lose Mary Jane and have a new love interest (bring back Gwen Stacey or give Betty Brant a lot more screentime/character now that Elizabeth Banks is a known name, both the characters were girlfriends of Parker, okay chronlogy is out the window but what the hell)
Or recast Mary Jane please. The character is boring, Kirsten Dunst looks bored and lacking a personality while playing her and she isn't very attractive either so she isn't exactly eye candy like Alba was in Fantastic Four.

EDIT: It was recently revealed that before being cast in Iron Man 2, Mickey Rourke was in talks to star in Spiderman 4 and to me at least there's only one chracter he fits playing and that's Kraven The Hunter. If it is indeed villians I think a pretty good film can be made of Spiderman vs Kraven vs The Lizard, as Spiderman wanting to stop Lizard because he's a friend and terrorising the city, Kraven hunting Lizard and Spiderman either for sport or because he's being paid to (by J Jonah jameson perhaps) and Spiderman and Lizard wanting to fight Kraven for obviously trying to hunt them and kill them. If it were to happen it'd probably be like The Dark Knight with Kraven being the true villian (Joker) and Lizard being the sympathetic villian (Two Face).

 Ok this is a no-go area! Raimi cant use Gwen!If you've read the comics you'll know why im so against this idea. Raimi said that he would never use the Gwen character, opting instead to include parts of her character and story into his MJ. This was fine by me untill he went and used Gwen! The guy is a studio puppet. He quite clearly had no intention of staying faithful to the original and therefore should never have included her. Black Cat is waaaay to risky for Raimi, I dont trust him enough to not do catwoman the re-make!

Frank Castle made the most sense. I agree - they've got a great writer. Im expecting this to be on the level of S2. Say what you want - they are not gonna reboot this any time soon. They might recast if somebody backed out but that is also unlikely.
And to clarify - Kingpin rights are with Fox, so he's not an option. Maybe you'd like to see him in Fox's DD reboot. And I think some can get their Evil Dead fix if Raimi has Lizard/Morbius the Vampire story.

ok, one of the best reasons why spider-man 2 was so good, was b/c doc oc wasn't inherently a bad guy. something bad happened to him, and the chip/arms started taking over. and in the end, he saved the world and helped peter. i think that's way the lizard would be the best villain for spider-man 4 if we're actually going to have one. the lizard/dr. conners is another great tragic villain which i think is the best kind. as long as there's no emo peter parker, or the 5 part story line that doesn't weave together at all, or correctly to the stan lee universe i'll be find.

No New York rocks theme (especially the stupid Brit reporter from Spidey3), no christ themes (like when Spidey gets lifted up by the train folk after saving them), no Emo or dancing or any musical influences and for the love of god make the bad guy(s) EVIL..... not misunerstood or being influence by spart arms! In fact give the directors reigns to someone elce if you do any of the above!

I don't know, neither of those villains have ever seemed particularly multi-dimensional to me. If Raimi wants to avoid making a mess of things again, I think he'd want to go for someone more interesting. Mysterio maybe?
