That looks brilliant from what I can tell, had no idea that's how the film would plan out - I simply thought it would be a basic cat and mouse in similar vein to Heat (a workaholic cop on the trail of a likeable professional thief) but the jail break aspect looks very interesting. Roll on the summer.

Looks bloody ace. Seems like Mann has filmed the gun fights a la Heat where they are so friggin loud that it rattles off the walls of the cinema, sends your eardrums into shock and makes you feel it & say "fuuuuuck!"...

or has the text let alone the link for the trailer disappeared off the face of the earth? I can only see Johnny Depp's face...and everyone else's comments and other stuff around the story itself...can anyone tell me if I am just being stupid? (it was a rhetorical question, Errol. What have I told u about thinking?)

As a massive Mann and Heat fan this looks awesome! Even the music straight after when the universal logo comes up sounds exactly like the music from the Heat bank robbery scene! In a summer of films that'll probably be very average I hope this is great and not another Miami Vice.

Looks very cool. Didn't see much of Bale but he looked like his usual brooding relentless self. It seems to have an awful lot in common with Heat which is not a bad thing. Am looking forward to it!

Looks awesome! Not sure they had to give away most of the story line in the trailer. Most people are going to be sold on the poster, cast and of course the Mann!! Maybe more of a teaser trailer would of been better. Like the original Heat trailer.

Right on brother! That or Miami Vice - when the sniper opens fire at the beginning of the film - me and the mrs jumped a good foot out of our seats that was an experience and a half. Love Mann's gun porn. Love it.

I knew it! After seeing the poster, the trailer comes along and it looks F-ING AMAZING! Johnny Depp suits the role and so does Christian Bale, how hot did they look?! I hope they show more of the other gang soon if they do a another trailer around the time it comes out. I really can't wait for this, July seems too far away.

I have to say this looks great, Depp and Bale facing off alright. Depp should be could its seems like a text book Depp role and Bale looks top it look like a very quiet performance which will be nice. Marion oh Marion she is beautiful jesus I want her.

Not sure about shooting in HD. Looks a little unnatural and crap too be honest.

How come when Fincher uses digital filmmaking it looks how cinema should look but when Mann uses it, it looks like a home movie. Miami Vice wasn't great and i'm not blown away with this trailer. God i hope i'm wrong.

It looks terribly, awfully good. And it being shot on video does look odd, but it might be a quirk that adds quality rather than detracts.

I'm sorry, but it looks like some on set footage and not like a movie. I accepted the HD look in the context of modern urban movies like Collateral and Miami Vice, but it's just wrong for a period piece. Oh so wrong. Yet I agree, Fincher managed to make Zodiac NOT look like HD, so why does this look like a high quality home movie?

It looks pretty great to me. Bale and Depp on the same screen screams nothing but win.

This may have just jumped up to the top of my most wanted list of 2009, just below Avatar and just above Transformers 2 methinks!

I'm loving the look of the HD cameras personally, only Michael Mann movies look this way because he uses natural light where possible and it gives all his movies a real immediacy! This could look like just another smooth, hollywood biopic in the vain of Sam Mendes etc but he's managed to give a film set in the 1930's a realistic, documentary film that I feel draws you into the action - you feel like you're actually in the bank while the robbery is occuring! Also, this film marks the return of DP Dante Spinotti, absent after The Insider - very, very exciting... this will look and feel stunning!

There is definiatley a Heat feel to it it, and also a mix with Depp's very own Blow.
Looks great, sounds great, looking forward to this a lot, though it's a shame we didn't see a lot of Bale to balance the overuse of Depp (if yoiu can overuse Depp that is). He's obviously adverse to awards so releases his films out of the loop (Novemeber - January) as his movies would win Oscars and the such aplenty - especially the almighty Heat.

A really good trailer I thought, good music, beautiful shots of both action and charcters (and what a voice by Billy Crudup !). Only slight downside, and I can't believe I'm saying this, is Depp. He looks incredibly bored in some shots, notably the opener talking to her about what he does. Later on, he gets better, but at times in the beginning he looks entirely uninterested. he livens up when interacting with the press a bit and when he gets the bug for fame. I reckon he is playing it as if he's bored, not because he is bored, but it seems a bit odd to use that footage at the start to set such a negative impression. I am nitpicking though

Also, another point, why do people like Christian Bale? He has one deep gravelly voice that never fits anywhere, especially not here, sounded ridiculous after Crudup, who sounded so 1930s I was instantly transported back there.

Why are Mann's movies always so lacking in feeling, cold and empty style exercises? This feels as 1930s as a modern car/communications/corporate ad… Poor Depp, poor Bale, and poor audience (who will stay away from it).

Interesting to see he's using the Viper method he's been honing since Collateral on this one, a period piece. Gives it a harder, grittier edge than we're perhaps used to. There are some pretty strong links between this and Heat. Depp even utters the same line DeNiro does ("We're here for the banks money, not yours)!

Looking forward to this; I for one am a little tired of seeing ye olden times through rose tinted spectacles. Lets have us some dirt and cordite. Also, Bale looks like a bad ass.

Same crap, different decade. Guns, banks, suits, dialogue.

I love Michael Mann, but this is the same old, same old.
