I love this guy's work, mostly down to his language and appreciation for the ordinary. Love 'Cathedral' and 'Menudo', and his poetry's great. Actually watched a film called Jindabyne today, based on 'So Much Water So Close To Home'. It's interesting and well worth a watch, though it could have been fifteen minutes shorter.

Any other fans?

Yes. Wonderful writer, one of the best bits of my A-level. Robert Altman's Short Cuts adapts many of his best known stories (including So Much Water So Close To Home) into a filmic anthology, though he has changed the setting to L.A.

Woo!!

I finally got a reply after nearly a month

I saw some of the altman film ... it was entertaining (especially Tim RObbins's storyline), but, ironically, I found it a bit too long. Could have focused on less stories, making it tighter.

But thanks for the reply!

No problem. In my defence, first time I've been in this bit for ages!

I've never actually read any of his stuff but Cathedral has been on my amazon 'wish list' for more than a year after getting a good recomendation from a friend. I think I'll buy it the next time I can.

Personally, I'd recommend getting hold of Where I'm Calling From, which is a selection of his best stories. It might be pricey, but worth it.

'Cathedral' and 'They're not your Husband' are my faves.

I'll try and find it, thanks for the info.
