Excellent choices. You have very good taste.

Thanks Siegfried. I have yet to see Chinatown and The Third Man though. But after reading what people have to say about them, I'm not really worried.

Love Holiday. I used to have it on tape, but unfortunately it's never been released here on disc. It's on my order wish list, but haven't gotten round to it yet.

*PERHAPS SOME SPOILERS*

It's an absolutely lovely film, with one of those fist-punching-the-air endings. I think I might like The Philadelphia Story even more, nowadays, having been disappointed by it on first viewing.

Intolerance (D.W. Griffith)
J`accuse (Abel Gance)

Intolerance is great.

Apparently Griffith made it after Birth of a Nation not to show people that he was tolerant, but rather to suggest to them that they shouldn't be intolerant to him for biggin' up the Klan.

Funny thing, though, Birth Of A Nation was a big success for all of the controversy it stirred up (and still does), but Intolerance failed.

I have Birth Of A Nation in my collection for a long time but have yet to see it. Looking forward to watching them both, maybe in the same weekend once I receive Intolerance?

I've also had very good experience with them. Even coming all the way from America to NZ, I've never had to wait more than a couple of weeks for delivery.

Just arrived yesterday - D. W. Griffith's Orphans Of The Storm with the incomparable Lillian Gish and sister Dorothy; the 1924 Peter Pan with Betty Bronson as Peter and Ernest Torrence as Captain Hook; the great Russian epic Quiet Flows The Don, which I'm going to have to watch over three nights as it's five and a half hours long.
