Loved it from start to finish! Great entertainment.
Although the final scene is dripping thick with schmaltz the movie left me with the same warm feeling in my chest as Wall-E.

Every ad around, internet, posters, are using the 4 stars from Empire, so what's up with the mag's one?
Anyway, personally, not as good as last year's big three animations (Horton, Kung Fu, Wall-e) but funny, interesting and pretty exciting.

i saw this this afternoon in 3D. it was surprisingly great, with the 3D being amazing. the fact that it didnt seem gimmicky helped, it genuinely felt like something i could imagine doing every week (seeing a film in 3D as the norm that is). i saw my bloody valentine 3D a few weeks back, and while the 3D aspect helped, it was still a terrible film, that didnt seem to actually do anything innovative with the technique (theres only so many times a pickaxe flying out of the screen impresses), whereas it was the subtlety within bolt that really made an impact. the cars short was great too, much more show-offy, but still impressive.

yeah. Whats the 'Hilarious' thing all about? It isn't even in the review, so its not like they could have taken it out of context or something.

took my little brother to see it on sunday, was not impressed, it was fun in 3d and the hamster was hilarious, but other than that i was dissapointed. it was filled with weak gags and in parts poor synchronizing of the voice, her lips will be saying something other than the actual audio, it could have been a lot better but if

Pixar have always taken a leaf out of disney's book, trying to provide heart as well as loveable charcters. I will admit the central characters are not much, but if I'm honest neither is Remy in ratatouille. The ideas may be a bit of a mish mash, but they all work, the delusion the celebrity status comment, the fact TV shows are getting less realisitic. The minor charcters are some of disney's best full stop, Rhino's lines are pure gold such as 'destiny's calling' and 'Starving'. And when you know the TV bit is fake, you get the gag, its hilarious. This is one of Disney's best films since Pirates of the Carribean, best animation for even longer. And i think the agent is hilarious!

Bolt OK, Tokyo Mater: AWFUL!!! - 13/2/2009 7:17:53 PM

There was no early Friday The 13th so I had to make do with Bolt 3-D whilst waiting around for some fun with sharp objects.
This was entertaining enough whilst it lasted although instantly forgettable. A few good gags but generally aimed more for kids than say Pixar or Dreamworks movies. The themes and events actually reminded me a lot of Toy Story 2, although this is nowhere near as good.

My biggest complaint however was with the Pixar short that played before it, a Cars spin off called Tokyo Mater (or something like that). This was truly dreadful and I can't for the life of me believe that Pixar would actually produce and distribute something so bad. What makes it even more shocking is that if I recall correctly, John Lassetter actually directed it. Technically it's great, but as a short film it falls way short of Pixars usual brilliance.
Bolt : 3 stars
Tokyo Mater 1 star!

Really good film, it smacked of the influence of Pixar, which is far from a bad thing. Bolt and Mittens were both well done, and Rocky is a great little sidekick. The pigeons' head movements were absolutely hilarious. Agreed about the short before the film being very poor though.

I was a little dissapointed by this, maybe i expected brilliance. Not an abysmal film, id rate it the same as A Bugs Life. IMO it just seemed to follow a similiar  plot line to Toy Story 2, although with pets instead of toys. I did like Rhino a lot though, if the film is bad there is usually always one character from a Pixar/Disney film you can rely on for laughs.

3/5 is about right for me.

Saw it yesterday, went in with high hopes and was utterly disappointed. A good set-up and amazing animation are wasted by a poor plot and unsympathetic characters. Rhino, the cute hamster, just isn't funny and Bolt, while very cute, just isn't as much of a hero as we need him to be. The 3D as well was underwhelming. It only truly graps you a few times in the entire film, the rest it is wasted. Disney is well and truly dead to me. Bring on 'Up'!

A so-so film for kids loosely related to the Truman Show but made in such a way as to be an embarrassment to anyone over 8 in the cinema. The film 'Tokyo Mater' preceding it was frankly a waste of time.

Excellent return to the tried and tested story of a character out of his usual shelter and inaccurate reality and thrust into the real world (Woody and Buzz, Nemo, Mike, Sully and Boo). For some reason it doesn't quite have the magic of Monsters Inc, Toy Story and Finding Nemo but it's very much in that mould and does work well.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable family film with everything you would expect from Disney. Bolt is TV Star dog who has no idea his life is fake, until he escapes his trailer and discovers that the real world is far more intense than TV. The story is endearing and, as always, the characters are funny, engaging and charming. The vocal talents of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus were perfectly fitting and Mark Walton added a wonderful humour. The only down side about the film would be that it is not worth watching in 3D, as you have to wear uncomfortable glasses and there are no actual 3D effects that made it worth while. Still an entertaining family film from Disney. Enjoy!

There's so much to love about this movie, even little things like the NY/Californian pigeons, the gloriously evil Calico, and the even more gloriously evil agent. But the main thing is that it really gets what kids want to see - Disney's original forte. I don't really agree with the review's criticisms at all (especially that superb agent).

Renting Bolt was the best thing to do, my sister wanted the dvd with the free toy but I told her to wait for the rental which we watched last night. It has a good start, thrilling and has a few laughs thrown at you. But once Bolt is left alone in New York, it begins to drag and get a little boring to watch. There are so many bits from other movies added in this which I find getting a little old to touch all the time. Rhino the hamster is genius, he saved the movie from being totally rubbish but the ending seems so rushed and leaves you feeling so-so towards the film. Even the song at the rolling creidts is bad, it dosen't have that magcial zing to the older Disney movies. But it's not all bad, it's amazing to look at on Blu-Ray with stunning picture and sound. Bolt is cute, Mittens is sweet, Rhino is like I said genius and Penny is okay I suppose. Not the best Disney film I seen and will never beat the old classics but it's something fun for kids though the adults may feel like they arren't invited in this.

I left the cinema wondering if the American name for this was Toy Story 3:The Life of Bolt because the plot was a massive rip-off of Toy Story 2. Disney at its worst.Avoid

Bolt
A quite likable animation flick from Disney with the dog Bolt who has the lead part in a popular tv show, the only problem being that he thinks that everything is real and that he truly posseses super powers. When he escapes the set of the show by accident and ends up in New York, he still thinks that he can use these powers. Together with an arrogant cat and a hamster (his biggest fan) he tries to find a way back home.

It still is a Disney film and so more than anything else we get the morality preach. That is the only real downside of the film: Rhino the hamster looks to be in the film just for the sake of telling us a moral (or push it down your throat, take your pick). Too bad, because at the core he really is a funny character.
Other than that there isn`t really too much wrong with this Disney. The story is, although predictable, funny (for young and old), the pacing is high and the animations are gorgeous.
It might not be of Pixar standards but Bolt is well worth a view nonetheless.
7,7/10

I took my sister to this movie, thinking I was going to hate it with a passion. I ended up liking the movie even though I'm not too fond of Miley Cyrus. I loved John Travolta. My favorite character, however, is the hamster. I've never laughed so hard over a cartoon before. He made the entire movie humorous for me.
