Loads of people have put down Calamity Jane - by far one of the corniest and yet best musicals of all time.

Anything with Gene Kelly seems to be a musical, so Singin' In The Rain is a gone conclusion.

The more 'contemporary' will mention A Nightmare Before XMas - but any bets no one will even mention The Corpse Bride - could that be considered a musical? Three words - Oh. My. Life.

Mr India - the only Bollywood film I like

A man finds a magic watch that turns him invisible. With his new power he battles Mugumbo, an evil super villain who wants to take over the world (played by the baddie from Temple of Doom).

Two favourites :- Little Shop of Horrors (80's version) and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Good to hear mentions for Blues Brothers and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too.

I can still remember the first time I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show - I didn't exactly know what it was about, so when Tim Curry came out...  Let's just say I was more than surprised and fell off my chair.

Singin' In The Rain gets my vote. Damn close to perfection (apart from the Broadway sequence, I've never liked that).

West Side Story, Moulin Rouge, The Music Man, Guys & Dolls, and Top Hat all follow, but not necessarily in that order.

I've never been a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, perhaps due to over-exposure to it as a child, perhaps due to me not being a huge fan of Judy Garland, although I'm sure that when I watch it again (it has been a number of years) my opinion will change for the better. It does have some magical moments though.

I was just thinking of starting a farourite musicals thread and then realised there was this golden oldie thread.

I recently watched West Side Story for the first time in the last couple of months. I have to say I think it was a complete masterpiece.
The story is one that is just as applicable in our modern day. (I know its Shakespeare essentially but even the 60's twist fits perfectly) The way it shows gangs and gang culture with the appeal that draws under priveleged people into them and then ultimately the way it can rip through innocent bystanders lives.
The songs are fantastic as well as the dance numbers.

This film has also taught my kids a lot about the nature of bullying and how violence doesn't lead to anything good.

So in short West Side Story is my favourite musical.
