Post your favourite musicals here. Mine has to be Grease, Travolta was great and had no bad songs in. Unfortunately they're played so much they seem to be getting more tedious.

West Side Story. Sheer brilliance, making Shakespeare modern before Baz.

We've known each other for a long time. I don't believe in magic, a lot of superstitious hocus pocus. I'm going after a find of incredible historical significance, you're talking about the boogie man. Besides, you know what a cautious fellow I am.

Everybody MUST love Wizard Of Oz or else you know nothing of the magic of cinema. Sorry, I'm as harsh as that in rites of passage. However, the best musical ever made is Singin' in the Rain. Postmodernism before postmodernism.

Yeah, The Wizard Of Oz definitely. After that it's The Sound Of Music, My Fair Lady and The King and I.

Nobody voting for Absolute Beginners? Anyone actually remember Absolute Beginners?

Dancer in the Dark puts Singin' in the Rain to shame. A superb film from the masterly director Lars von Trier.

Does The Nightmare before Christmas count. It is rather musical!

West Side Story.  Bland leads but terrific supporting cast, superb dancing and fantastic music.

West Side Story easily. Natalie Wood is a truly gorgeous lead and the numbers wipe the floor with all before it.

Mind you, Grease 2 always makes me chuckle - Where does the pollen go!

As this is in the top ten section I shall post my favourite ten in no particular order

Moulin Rouge
Paint your wagon
west side stroy
Seven brides for seven brothers
calamity jane
Mary Poppins
Jungle Book
On the Town

You may all think Paint your Wagon is crap but I love it, grew up listening to the songs and yes Clint Eastwood cant sing but thats the best bit that the whole cast apart from one guy cant sing.

For me it would have to be All That Jazz, much under-appreciated work by the mighty Bob Fosse, possibly Roy Schieder's greatest role (after Jaws)

Runner-up spot goes to the superbly funny South Park

West Side Story - Russ Tamblyn is a god
Singin' In the Rain - Donald O'Connor is a genius
Dancer in the Dark
My Fair Lady
Mary Poppins
Moulin Rouge
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Wizard of Oz

Most definitely not The Sound of Music or Grease

THANK YOU!, I was scrolling down shocked that this hadn't been mentioned yet. Then it's Singin' In The Rain and The Sound Of Music for me.
Oh and Grease is terrible, I can't understand why so many people seem to like it.

Singin' In The Rain is fantastic and I love it, it's coming in a very close second here,  but my personal favouroite is always going to be The Wizard of Oz. It's probably partly because it's so coloured with nostalgia from my childhood that I'll never be able to look at it objectively and judge but everything about this film is perfect to me. It's everything a musical ought to be.

I'm also going to mention some of the Disney films, because no-one has so far and whilst not strictly musicals by genre they do feature some of the best use of integrated muscial numbers in any film. The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin should definitely be considered to be up there amongst some of the musicals mentioned so far.
