I love it, its bonkers, its funny and its still got great puppet effects, the studio basically gave Joe Dante a budget and let him have his way with it

Awwwwwww

The bit where the movie breaks down and the Gremlins take over the projection booth is still brilliant, it got a huge laugh from the crowd when i saw it in the cinema, its got some brilliant cameos and its still funny as hell

NOT GUILTY

Woah woah woah.

Why is this in the movie trial section? Are there people out there who dislike this movie? Give me their names. Its not possible. I can't believe that someone, in particular a film fan, wouldn't find some joy here.

The best moment of the film

NOT GUILTY!!!!!!!!!!!

Not Guilty, I remember being in the Cinema too and that bit with the projector cracked everyone up. I think if people do dislike it then it can only be because they don't think it's better than the original. They could well be right but it's still a great show on its own. I personally think it's better cause it's a lot more fun - cue Tony Randall, "Fred, what we want is, I think, what everyone wants, and what you and your viewers have: civilization". If I remember correctly that was one of the moments that rocked Empire over there 1st 200 issues.

The first is considerably better, but this is still a witty, rollicking good time.

Dentist Gremlin: "Is it safe?"

Also the building announcements crack me up every time :"Fire: The Untamed Element, Oldest of Man's Mysteries, Giver of warmth, Destroyer of forests, right now *this* building is on fire."

Oh, by the way: NOT GUILTY!!

This should never be in this section, what a strange week for this thread with the Blair Witch in here.  Not Guilty.  Who can not enjoy this OT film-Ok its nowhere near as good as the original and it has nothing like that wonderful Santa story about her Father (still awesome), but it is still a Gremilin film, come on!!! I too was in the Cinema and the projector scene was a riot, do you remember the VHS version, was it re-shot into a western with a Cowboy telling the little buggers to put the film back on.  Not as good and I had to explain  to my Parents that Hulk Hogan was in the one I saw...I remember the vacant Expression on their faces "Hulk who?"
Ha Happy days....I WANT GREMILINS 3....Oh by the way I had a thing for Miss Cates back then......

GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH is a work of pure genius! The whole film is a piss-take on sequels in general, with a tongue-in-cheek style that makes fun of itself and it's predecessor. I remember the year 1990 - I call it the 'Year of the Sequel' there were sooo many that year! (Robocop 2, Predator 2, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Rocky V, The Godfather Part III, Young Guns II: Blaze of Glory...)  There should be more love for this film! It's got Christopher Lee! It's got Hulk Hogan!

Guilty.
Sucks all the darkness out of the original and merchandises up all it's characters, including the humans, as much as possible.
Gremlins I can still watch now and it is an almost perfect family film.  OK, it's got some risque and gruesome bits in there, bit I think that's needed.  I hate the way all modern kids films are so sanitised and clean.  This aims squarely down to kiddies.

Said it before, Gremlins is a perfect modern fairytale about responsibility. The sequel is a mess with NO story.

Completely and utterly bonkers but its great fun.Love the bit where Gizmo is watching Rambo and is inspired to pick up bow and arrows to Jerry goldsmiths Rambo theme!

Not guilty, not in the slightest. It's no secret that I prefer this one to the original, I just fucking love that Dante was given complete control and just went completely crazy. It's one of the boldest films ever made, fucking with conventions, narrative, you name it. The puppet effects are better than those in the original, the story, spoofing all the horror classics, and even itself, is superb in it's lunacy. The brain gremlin is an awesome character, and the whole sequence involving mad scientist Lee in his nightmare lab is some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. Huge fan right here.

Right, the satire being that instead of characters they just had cartoon characters and then merchandised a shit-storm of goods of every concievable type off the back of it?  I remember having 3 colouring books myself!

I'm with Tech, when you watch this film now, it's nothing but flash nonsence.  Which is fine, except that Gremlins, is so superior.

Yeah, if you can't see the satire in here... then you need to watch rather than nitpick... it's glaringly obvious from the corporate building right down to Daniel Clamp (read: Donald Trump).... and like Kazuya said, it's a very bold movie that dares to mess with convention and send up everything in it's path.... I especially love Leonard Maltin's cameo

I can see the satire within the film.  My point is that it's then rendered meaningless, because as Tech has posted earlier it's followed by Dancing Gizmo with SOUND!  Anyway, I think this arguement deviates from the movie trial a little.  Mainly, the film is bunkum.  Takes everything awesome from Gremlins and saturday-morningfies it even further.  If this is ever on TV, I'm probably not going to do more than watch a few moments as I flick past.  If Gremlins is on, I'll probably watch it.

Your point is? Yeah it's a Gizmo plush toy, so what? The obviously satiric outlook of the film still stands regardless of whether or not merchandise was released.
That is a choice of the studio, not the writers/director.
