I worked there for three years before it was closed down. Best Time of my Life EVER. It wasn't a job - it was just pure chaos on a daily basis. Funnily enough, a bunch of us WAR vets (hee hee!) had a reunion the other night.

 So was it scary? Can someone give us a rundown of what took place, your reaction to it and the reactions of others - I never went I assumed it was a permanent thing and I'd get round to it at some point, clearly a bad mistake

 The Tour would begin with a Colonial Marine guiding a group of visitors through an 'Alien Research Center' where they would "witness the life-cycle of the Alien from facehugger to Chestburster to full-grown Alien and, if you're lucky, you may get to see an actual queen up close in her inclosure... don't worry folks, it's perfectly safe."
 
wow, I'm having flashbacks of the opening speech. anyway, after the initial explanation of what was to follow, the marine would leave the group alone in the briefing room for a few minutes to 'process their passes' but then the alarm would sound and the marine would return, armed with an M-41a Pulse Rifle and explain that the creatures had escaped from their containment chambers and that the site was to be evacuated immediately but the only way out was to go through the site. so then we'd take the group through various attacks (Med Lab, EEV, Egg Chamber etc.).  The 'aliens' themselves were a combination of guys in suits (honestly, some were convincing, others not - depended on the lighting) and animatronics which did look bitching! The set itself was built using molds from the original 1985 set that Cameron & Co. used and we had a BIG model queen alien in the egg chamber. we had sound f/x used in the first two films (I LOVED the 'self-destruct' voice of MOTHER). Great Memories. In 1996, there was a flood in the basement of the Trocadero and our sets, props and everything else were destroyed and I guess someone, somewhere wasn't interested in re-investing in the attraction. I WAS FUCKING HEART-BROKEN. damn shame really, I remember whilst working there, we were hearing rumblings about ALIEN 4 and possibly ALIEN vs PREDATOR (we had our f/x guys create a 'Predator' suit and we used him on a few tours)



The two guys in the picture are John Gorman and Gary Gilles - the original creators of the attraction which originally started in Glasgow before they brought it to London where it had a HUGE opening in 1993, Sigourney Weaver was in attendance. Snake-Eyes starting working at ALIEN WAR shortly after.

 Thanks for that - did people shit their pants during the whole thing? What about firing off the pulse rifles did the Marines do that

Depending on who the marine was (and of course how enthusiastic and into character the guy in the alien suit was), yeah, IT WAS SCARY!  I actually witnessed a woman freeze with fear and when we finally got her to move, I noticed that she had PISSED herself whilst sitting on a seat in the EEV (Emergency Escape Vehicle), which was actually closer-looking to the interior of the dropship.
 
The Pulse Rifles didn't really fire anything - the tips/muzzles were fitted with miniature strobe lights which, once triggered, would instantly be picked up by the excellent surround sound system which emitted a VERY LOUD machine gun firing sound effect; however, this was only possible at certain points in the base. At one point in time, we had a few smart guns with similar attachments and we also used blank-firing pistols.

Yes. John & Gary are also responsible for the new version which was set to re-open in Glasgow - has it already happened? some of the guys were talking about it at the AW reunion last week.
 

 
ha ha ha!!! the ALIEN WAR 'Newsletter'! I think there was only ever ONE produced. I still have this at home somewhere.

No Idea, I just hear rumours on myspace & facebook. To tell you the truth, I don't think it would be successful now. It really was of it's time in the Trocadero back then.

my buddy Nick and I went to Alien in the Trocadero basement many years ago

it was AWESOME

really scary, in the way the atmosphere built up, and then it all went off...just like the movie!

unless I am mistaken, someone we assumed was part of our group, got pulled up through a hatch in the elevator as our group was escaping!

the funniest thing was going back for a second time (about a month later) and we decided to have some fun, and take a wander away from the back of the group without the marines (actors) noticing, we tried to grab an alien and got told to "f*ck off" by the actor in the alien suit, which was quite bizarre....

awesome show, and looking around in the shop / exhibition afterwards was great

was the show ruined by the basement flooding?

ha ha ha! yeah, quite a few people thought it would be funny to try and grab the aliens - resulted in a punch-up once!  I still have TONS of pics / flyers / tickets from the exhibition and merchandise from the shop in my collection.  yes, the flood closed the attraction down.

 How many Aliens rip offs have there been in film? Starship Troopers doesn't count cause Cameron was inspired by that book as well.

It seems like more videogames have been influenced by the movie than other filmes.

The movie Starship Troopers was inspired by Aliens, otherwise it would have been closer to the book (which was dull as Hell - except the opening chapter)

I honestly don't see any relationship between the two films, beyond both coming from the same source material and being "soliders in space".

 Theres a scene in Predator 2 which is ripped right out of Aliens.When Gary buseys men enter the slaughterhouse,his agents are watching via live video feed from each agent who have cameras on their shoulders.As they are wasted by the predator,the agents watching in the van are paralyed with fear.Even Danny Glover stands there next to them using Ripleys dialogue ''GET THEM OUT OF THERE!''.

Heck,the film even had Bill Paxton reprising a lot of his Hudson schtick.

 I love the first two Aliens films.
If forced to choose I would probably go for Ridley Scott's deliberatly slow, echoing, tension builder as my fave.

Aliens is my favourite of the 4 (not counting the AvP films). I love the first but the 2nd just gets the nod from me. My favourite film series of all time.

I havent seen ALIENS in ages and ive been dieing to see it for a while, I might get them on DVD this xmas. So imagine my sheer glee and excitement when last night eating dinner an advert came on to tell me that aliens is showing TONIGHT on film 4 at 9 o clock?! XMAS HAS COME EARLY!

This is one of the finest films ever made, and I honestly don't think Cameron's been better.
