 lol at some of the ridiculous ratings in here, but yes, as long as he keeps his head in the game, and I don't see why he won't, he's smart and knows the business supremely, and most importantly, he HIRES well, he will be up there, not just on a british list, but possibly on a all-time list, guy has barely start and I'd say he's made 5 great films and 1 good one.

Memento - 9/10
Insomnia - 7/10
Batman Begins - 9/10
The Prestige - 8/10
The Dark Knight - 8/10
Inception - 8/10

I just hope he goes back to more quiet thriller styles for a bit after Batman 3, TDK and Inception while still the blockbusters in years, were incredibly over the top and over directed for me, they were way too loud, the music rarely stopped, and sometimes it was just annoying.

How can you give some of these films 2/5, which is The Expendables standard. Even if you didn't enjoy them, surely you can still rate them at least 3/5 for the fantastic visuals, music, and storyline? I didn't enjoy Shutter Island at the cinema at all, but I still respected the film enough to give it a 6/10 (but after re-watching on DVD, an 8/10 - great stuff).

Insomnia 7/10
Batman Begins 8+/10
The Prestige 7/10

Well it's all down to taste.  The ones I rated 2/5 in my opinion actually had mediocre-to-poor storylines, visuals and [especially] music.  They bored me, especially the Batman films, which didn't even deliver on the action stakes.  I enjoyed The Expendables more then more than those films.  Again, it's all down to taste!  Then again, after loving Inception maybe I'll try them out again.....

Cotillard was superb in it! Her on screen presence gave me goosebumps and a shiver down my spine. Leonardo was great in the lead role too which brings me to my question, which actors do you feel gave poor performances?

Nolan can without a doubt be considered one of Britain's greatest directors.

Shane Meadows maybe, though I have yet to see any of his films.  Guy Ritchie, if anything I'd say he's slightly overrated though Sherlock Holmes was better than it had any right to be.

Not sure what this has to do with Chris Nolan though.

Ive enjoyed every Christopher Nolan movie, apart from Inception. So yeah I'd say he probably is one of the best british directors.

 I like all his films so far, and some of them I can easily rewatch a dozen more times; I'd pretty much say he's one of Britain's best right now.

 There are British films made these days: Harry Brown, Four Lions etc.
I don't see how you can call Nolan's films British.

I really think The Prestige is his best work. I feel about The Prestige the way many people seem to feel about Inception. I just found Inception really boring and The Prestige totally gripping every time I watch it. I've got Insomnia recorded on Sky+ to watch this week also.

I'm not, I am saying he is British as was the othr directors I had listed and that in time he will be lauded alongside them for talent and quality of end product.

Kick-Ass and Harry Brown where. Its just alot of the times with things such as harry potter and bond movies, which are just american financied financied films shot in england :<

Nolan is one of the best directors working in the world today, definately in the top 5 IMO. I love all of his films with Insomnia being the worst and i still rate that quite highly.

 Prefer Danny Boyle to Christopher Nolan interms of top English directors at the moment.
And though I respect Nolans works in general I still think there is a slight essence of shallowness in his style.

I don't really have a favorite current British director. No one really stands out, but if I had to choose, maybe Stephen Frears or Danny Boyle. Does Paweł Pawlikowski count, if so, it is him.

 He probably isn't going to come back over here in a hurry in fairness, and why would he? Warners (and anyone else) are going to continue to throw money at him for a while yet, at least untill he makes something considered a failure.
