ditto - I'm aiming for one film per day this year.
Cos i like to set myself up to fail you know.

EDIT: Yay, the edit button is back. Here's my diary so far this year. Now with a tenuous link between each movie.
Also, I'm challenging myself to seeing 365 films in a year. If i miss a day it won't matter as long as I see 365 overall.

January
1st - #1 Just Like Heaven (Sky+, BBC2) – A gentle easy to watch comedy romance for the start of the New Year. It was ok actually.
>Tenuous link – The Cure songs.<
2nd - #2 Starter for 10 (BBC I-Player) – Enjoyable fluff. Made me nostalgic for my youth. Great great soundtrack too with the likes of The Cure, The Smiths and Buzzcocks on it.
>Tenuous link – TV Quiz Shows<
3rd - #3 Slumdog Millionaire (Download) – Absolutely brilliant. For me, Danny Boyles best film.
>Tenuous link – Stephen King's top ten of 2008<
4th - #4 Lakeview Terrace (Download) – Reminded me of Unlawful Entry and Training Day. I liked it.
>Tenuous link – Samuel L Jackson movies<
4th - #5 Deep Blue Sea (Sky+, Sky Movies) – A big dumb B-Movie which I still like after all this time. I like how you really don't know who will make it to the end.
>Tenuous link – Sound was done by Eric Gotthelf on both movies<
5th - #6 Rescue Dawn (Sky+, Sky Movies) – A really powerful movie which made me a bit emotional at the end. Quite a bit mumbly though, had to put the subtitles on.
>Tenuous link – Hero starts the film clean shaven but ends up with a beard. Also, they're both true stories.<
5th - #7 Che Part One (Cinema) – I wasn't sure what to expect. I know next to nothing about Che Guevera, but this was an entertaining history lesson. Looked gorgeous (HD) and the end battle was stunning
>Tenuous link - Erm, both films are quite long?.
6th, 7th & 8th - #8 Dances With Wolves (Sky+, BBC2) - I know this took 3 days to watch in full, but it's a long film and I'm a very busy man. Not as good as I remember, but still not bad. Costner's hairstyle = horrid, though.
>Tenuous link - Characters that can't read + characters that become separated from their family.
8th - #9 Inkheart (Cinema) - A good idea, but I found it a bit hardgoing, not least because of some very irritating performances from Serkis, Mirren & John Thomson amongst others.
>Tenuous link - Main characters are a girl and her dad.
8th - #10 Twilight (Cinema) - I knew nothing of the book or the plot before going in and am happy to say I really enjoyed it. Bit of an ambigous ending though, so I'm guessing there's a sequel on the way.
>Tenuous link - Twilight author states Iron man as one of her influences and calls it the greatest superhero movie ever made.
9th - #11 Iron Man (DVD) - I think this is really successful and entertaining and I hadn't expected that when I sat at the cinema last year.
>Tenuous link - Wigan band, The Tansads had a single called "Iron Man" and a band member, Guy Keenan previously from another band called The railway Children.
10th - #12 The Railway Children (DVD) - What a wonderful little film. Really dated but still works.
>Tenuous link - both have vehicles on tracks as major parts of the plot. (trains in the railway children, a rollercoaster in FD3.)
11th - #13 Final Destination 3 (TV, CH4) - I'm a sucker for these movies and I enjoyed this one as much as the last. Some great gory moments. Roll on part 4.
>Tenuous link - A VHS copy of FD3 can be seen in.....
12th - #14 Be Kind, Rewind (DVD) - Still like it. Love all the sweded movies, especially Robocop.
>Tenuous link - Jack Black & Sally Hawkins have both made films with Naomi Watts.
13th - #15 Happy Go Lucky (DVD) - My favourite film for last year. Really good.
>Tenuous link - Eddie Marsan & Colin Farrell worked together in Miami Vice.
14th - #16 In Bruges (DVD) - Another favourite of mine from last year. Hilarious script.
>Tenuous link - Ralph Feinnes is in both movies.
15th - #17 The Reader (Cinema) - Great performances, ruder than expected, but overalla good story. Not sure the Ralph Feinnes bits worked though.
>Tenuous link - Both have scenes of the main character naked in water.
16th - #18 Dinosaur (TV, Disney Channel) - Visually amazing, but boring plot.
>Tenuous link - Both begin with "D". Sorry, that's all I've got.
17th - #19 Definitely, Maybe (Sky +, Sky Movies) - Definitely rubbish.
>Tenuous link - Abigail Breslin is in both movies.
18th - #20 Little Miss Sunshine (DVD) - My favourite film of 2006, really funny, great characters. Love it.
>Tenuous link – Death of parents.<
19th - #21 Defiance (Cinema) - Not bad, but wouldn't voluntarily watch it again anytime soon.
>Tenuous link – Dog attacks.<
22nd - #22 The Dark Knight (DVD) - Wonderful still. Heath certainly deserves that Oscar.
>Tenuous link – Both had same second assistant director, Sarah Macfarlane.<
23rd - #23 National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (TV, Sky Anytime) - Pretty average, but much better than the awful Indy effort from last year.
>Tenuous link – The character of john Wilkes booth was used in national treasure and The Twilight Zone.<
23rd - #24 Twilight (Download) - I like this a lot. Mrs Frankie prefers the books though.
>Tenuous link – unconventional love stories.<
24th - #25 Slumdog Millionaire (Cinema) - A brilliant film enhanced with an audience. Might just be Danny Boyle's best.
>Tenuous link – Orphans.<
25th - #26 Australia (Download) - Bloody good film, that.
>Tenuous link – King George / King of Kong.<
26th - #27 King of Kong (TV, Sky+, Sky Arts1) - A funny and emotional documentary with a final scene which made me punch the air.
>Tenuous link – Sporting return matches.<
26th - #28 The Wrestler (Cinema) - A painful watch in almost every sense of the word. But in a good way.
>Tenuous link – Wrestling.<
31st - #29 Man on The Moon (Sky+, BBC1) - A decent film. That Andy Kaufman was part genius, part prat.
>Tenuous link – At least part of the title is in the film's theme song.<

February
1st - #30 Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Download) - I liked this despite not really liking any of the characters.
>Tenuous link – Communication problems.<
1st - #31 The Little Mermaid (TV, Disney Channel) - classic. quite short too.
>Tenuous link – Both are adapted from books which have tragic endings.<
2nd - #32 Revolutionary Road (Cinema) - Great performances, but very depressing film which wasn't an easy watch.
>Tenuous link – Both have a pregnant character who dies.<
2nd - #33 My Bloody Valentine 3D (Cinema) - Stupid, stupid, stupid and fun. In 3D!
>Tenuous link – Boobies! (Sorry).<
6th - #34 Role Models (Cinema) - A lot funnier than I'd expected. Some of the performances were hilarious.
>Tenuous link – Paul Ruud.<
6th - #35 Anchorman (TV, BBC1) - One of my all time favourite comedies. Never fails to make me laugh.
>Tenuous link – Whammy! (catchphrase in Anchorman, TV show in Bolt)<
7th - #36 Bolt 3D (Cinema) - Disney's best in ages. I liked it.
>Tenuous link – something unexpected in a cardboard box.<
9th - #37 Se7en (DVD) - Fincher's best. A gripping crime thriller which should've been nominated for loads of Oscars.
>Tenuous link – David Fincher, Brad Pitt. Take your pick.<
9th - #38 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Cinema) - Fincher's worst. A long winded romance which really doesn't deserve all of it's Oscar nominations.
>Tenuous link – A Character who can play the piano (Brad in Benjamin Button, Woody in Seven Pounds.<
11th - #39 Seven Pounds (Download) - Not bad, but I pretty much got the "twist" quite early on.
>Tenuous link - both had December 2008 releases in the USA.
12th - #40 Frost / Nixon (Cinema) - Really enjoyed this. Much more than I expected to. Maybe my second favourite of the 5 oscar noms. But haven't seen Milk yet.
>Tenuous link - true stories.
13th - #41 Control (Sky+, Movies) - An excellent film about a really tragic story.
>Tenuous link - musicals.
14th - #42 Swing Time (Sky+, BBC4) - Some great dancing by Fred Astaire in this. Especially the "Bojangles of harlem" section. Shame about the blacking up though.
>Tenuous link - Both have scenes of the male lead(s) without trousers on.
14th - #43 Weird Science (Sky+, BBC1) - A nostalgia trip for me. Not really worth revisiting, but some nice moments all the same.
>Tenuous link - icky kissing scenes.
14th - #44 Milk (Download) - An excellent movie. Really interesting throughout. Ultimately tragic tho. Sean Penn's brilliant.
>Tenuous link - snow scenes
15th - #45 Frozen River (Download) - Loved this. A great thriller / drama with no clichιs at all.
>Tenuous link - hiding someone in the back of a vehicle
18th - #46 The Dark Knight (DVD) - Hope Heath wins on Sunday. Pretty sure he will.
>Tenuous link - people standing in front of an oncoming vehicle
19th - #47 Bowfinger (Sky+, ITV2) - Still funny in places. Steve Martin's last decent film.
>Tenuous link - funny end credit scenes
20th - #48 Slumdog Millionaire (Download) - Watched this a lot now. I think I like it.
>Tenuous link - finding the girl
22nd - #49 Short Circuit (TV, FIVE) - A nostalgia trip that holds up pretty well.
>Tenuous link - outsiders
22nd - #50 Napolean Dynamite (DVD) - A hilarious movie. One of my all time faves.
>Tenuous link - erm, one's hilarious, the other..isn't?
22nd - #51 Underdog (Sky+, Movies) - an average kids film with the odd laugh.
>Tenuous link - creepy pets
23rd - #52 Fatal Attraction (Sky Anytime, Movies) - Not seen this for years. I'd forgotten just how creepy Glenn Close is in it. I think it's still pretty good.
>Tenuous link - true love wins the day
23rd - #53 Wall-E (DVD) - Best animated film at the Oscars last night and well deserved. Top movie.
>Tenuous link - somebody knows best and won't compromise
25th - #54 Doubt (Download) - A brilliant thought provoking film. Hated Meryl Streeps character, loved Phillip Seymour Hoffman as usual. Love the movie.
>Tenuous link - need to concentrate
26th - #55 Che part 2 (Cinema) - Not as eventful as part one but I still think this was a superior piece of work. Both parts together may just be Steven Soderberghs best films. But i do like Out of Sight a lot too.
>Tenuous link - weird romance

March
1st - #56 Rebecca (Sky+, BBC4) - Absolute classic. Loved it. I'm a sucker for these old British clipped accents movies.
>Tenuous link - funny old people
2nd - #57 Gran Torino (Cinema) - Hmmm. Not sure about this. It was good in places, but ultimately a bit flat. And as for Clint's singing over the end credits. Ugh.
>Tenuous link - heroic old people
3rd - #58 The Visitor (Download) - Absolute wonderful little film. Deserves a higher recognition.

16th #120 Bruno (Cinema) - Nowhere near as funny as Borat (which I love), but it has it's moments. Should've watched it with a Friday night crowd for a better atmosphere for comedy rather than a couple of lunchtime skivers. Also, it was VERY rude in places.

September

2nd #143 GI Joe : The Rise of Cobra (Cinema) - Passable nonsense.

19th #156 Disaster Movie (Sky Movies) - Appaling.
22nd #157 Wall-E (DVD) - maybe Pixar's best. Classic movie.
25th #158 Rain Man (Sky Anytime) - The older I get, the more I think this is about Charlie and not Raymond. And i still see new things in it. One of my favourites.
26th #159 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Cinema) - Wow! Not what I was expecting at all. A really smart and witty script. Had me chuckling throughout. Looks good too.

My Cinema Diary 2009

January

1st - Che (3/5)
4th - Frost/Nixon (Plus live satellite Q&A with writer Peter Morgan and actor Michael Sheen (David Frost)) (4/5)
6th - Slumdog Millionaire (Plus live satellite Q&A with director Danny Boyle) (5/5)
21st - The Wrestler (5/5)
24th - Slumdog Millionaire (5/5)

Film of the month - The Wrestler. Just by a whisker. Slumdog was equally excellent but ultimately I was so moved and taken aback by Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and The Wrestler that it has to go to this.

February

4th - Valkyrie (3/5)
4th - Revolutionary Road (2/5)
18th - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2/5)
22nd - Milk (3/5)

Film of the month - Valkyrie. Pretty poor month though.

March

4th - Gran Torino (5/5)
25th - Watchmen (3/5)
31st - Duplicity (2/5)

Film of the month - Gran Torino. Suprisingly funny and always brilliant. I originally put it behind The Wrestler in my Top Ten but the more I think about this film the more I feel it's above and beyond anything I've seen in the last few months. A real suprise.

April

22nd - In the Loop (4/5)

May

2nd - State of Play (2/5)
4th - Let the Right One In (4/5)
10th - El Divo (3/5)
20th - Star Trek (3/5)
25th - Encounters at the End of the World (4/5)
25th - Coraline 3D (4/5)
31st - Synecdoche, New York (1/5)

Film of the month - Let the Right One In. Not a blisteringly different take on the vampire mythology but it doesn't matter because this is a film about mood and atmosphere and it has that it spades. A beautiful, scary and magnificent film.

June

24th - Drag Me to Hell (2/5)
24th - Red Cliff (4/5)

Film of the month
- Red Cliff. A Brilliant return to form for John Woo and a film which is more about the tactics of war than the actual battles, which are still amazing to behold. Now I need to see the full five hour cut.

July

2nd - Anything For Her (4/5)
7th - Public Enemies (2/5)
21st - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (3/5)
28th - Moon (5/5)

Film of the month
- Moon. Not only film of the month but without a doubt film of the year (so far). It's hard to put into words what was so great about this film but it mesmerised me in the same way that The Assassination of Jesse James did. I doubt I'll see anything better at the cinema this year.

August

25th - Inglourious Basterds (3/5)

September

6th - The Hurt Locker (4/5)
16th - District 9 (4/5)
21st - Away We Go (4/5)

Film of the month - The Hurter Locker. Brilliant first half which is both tense and terrifying. What lets it down is a slightly bizarre second half with goes all 'Hollywood', which is out of kilter with the first half of the film. Still compelling viewing though.

October

14th - Up (4/5)
15th - Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee (4/5)
20th - The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (3/5)

Film of the month - Up. Beautiful film with a lot of hilarious visual comedy and slight gags, at one point I couldn't stop laughing. Slightly weird film though when you stop to think about it and the action climax is disappointing. Made me cry twice as well.

November

2nd - Thirst (4/5)

December

6th - A Serious Man (4/5)
10th - The White Ribbon (3/5)
13th - Paranormal Activity (4/5)
14th - Where the Wild Things Are (5/5)
20th - Me and Orson Welles (4/5)
23rd - Avatar (3/5)
30th - Sherlock Holmes (3/5)

Top Ten of the Year

01. Moon
02. Where the Wild Things Are
03. Gran Torino
04. The Wrestler
05. Slumdog Millionaire
06. Let the Right One In
07. Red Cliff
08. Up
09. In the Loop
10. The Hurt Locker

Films I've been interested in but missed at the cinema:

Anvil: The Story of Anvil (4/5)
The Class
The Damned United
Antichrist
Mesrine: Killer Instinct
Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1
Fish Tank
The Cove
Pontypool
Triangle
Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno
Jennifer's Body
The Men Who Share at Goats

Upcoming Films:

Okay, I'll have me some of this. I've just finished updating my 2008 list on my blog, so I'm all set for 2009. How does this work? Last year I just kept a ranking of new films I saw in the cinema. Do people include DVD and TV viewings here too? I hope and pray that the edit function comes back soon! So far (date viewed in brackets) - I had a busy New Year's Day!

January
Che Part One (01/01)
Che Part Two (01/01)
Dean Spanley (01/01)
Milk (08/01)
Slumdog Millionaire (11/01)
Defiance (11/01)

In order of goodness, throughout the year
Slumdog Millionaire (11/01)
Milk (08/01)
Che Part One (01/01)
Che Part Two (01/01)
Defiance (11/01)
Dean Spanley (01/01)

Lordy, I've been really bad this year for ranking my films. The best I've managed is just to keep a list of what I've seen in the cinema so far; I haven't got dates or scores for most of them! Anywho, until I re-visit my proper lists above, this is what I've seen on the big screen so far in 2009:

Watchmen
Bolt 3D
The International
Bronson
Gran Torino
Confessions of a Shopaholic
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Che Part 1
Che Part 2
Dean Spanley
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Frost/Nixon
Slumdog Millionaire
Milk
Vicky Christina Barcelona
Role Models
He's Just Not That Into You
Defiance
Bride Wars
Monsters v Aliens 3D
Il Divo
In The Loop
Let The Right One In
The Boat That Rocked
Crank: High Voltage
Race to Witch Mountain
State of Play
Star Trek
Wolverine
Knowing
Good
FAQ About Time Travel
Shifty
Coraline 3D

I've only included new releases, so it doesn't have any older, re-released titles, like The 400 Blows, which I saw in the cinema.
