Amazingly, I couldn't find this in the small screen index and seeing as last night saw it's return I thought I'd start one...

Haven't watched the documentary yet but caught the show. It was like they never went away, although they are showing their age a bit more now. George Dawes' song was as ever the highlight for me - Matt Lucas can never do it without laughing! Would've liked to see Johnny Vegas back though - he was always good with the comebacks. Is this the start of a new series or just a one off?

It was just a one off, unfortunately. Shame because that single show last night was better than most other things on TV.
It was so good I'll have to watch it again on iplayer.

I didn't catch all of the documentary, but what I did see was again really good.

It was really good. The documentary was also great. It's mad to see how skinny Matt Lucas was at the start.

I really enjoyed this - used to love the show back in the day, and it was great to see it back, if only for a one-off show.  It was nice to see the old tricks back too - Vic's leg rubbing getting taken to new heights was great!  And who couldn't love Bob's comments about Ulrika's chest?

That documentary was excellent too - "Peanuts" never fails to raise a smile! :)

I thought it was superb. Both the documentary and the show.

Its great to see pre-The Office humour still has a place in British TV. Not that I'm taking anything away from The Office, but that awkward/obnoxious/sarcastic/Gervais/Jimmy Carr approach has just been ripped off far, far too much in the past 6 or so years. I even sensed it listening to Fern bloody Cotton on the way home from work the other day! Seeing something as simple and original as Shooting Stars again was just a breath of fresh air.

I defy anyone not to find this funny http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ed9RLxRKEl4&feature=related

I recorded them last night. I'm watching the documentary now and I'm in stitches! I forgot how funny this is. Kinky John Fowler has to have been one of the funniest characters from the past ten years!

I thought Shooting Stars was a big let down; nowhere near as good as it used to be.  Jack Dee was rubbish.

I loved the end with the dead blue tit on Jack Dee's head.

The documentary was great. Absolutely loved it.  Going into it, I thought it was going to be a rather serious look at the making and impact of the show, kind of like the Blackadder doc shown earlier, looking back I know that was a rather foolish assumption to make.

Kinky John as the head of the BBC was awesome, as were the Hairy Bikers.  Looking back at some classic clips just reminds me how really unimaginitive Brit comedy is at the minute, there are lots of things I like, but there hasn't been anything approcahing Vic and Bob genius for years.  The one off show was good too, not great, and certainly not a classic, but still laugh out loud funny.  Vics legs over the shoulders, 'Dozy Rascall', getting rid of Bob's mice were all brilliant little gags.  Please, please bring this back for another series.  Vic did say to Jack Dee "This is your first one". maybe a hint that a series is to follow?

Best bit about the new ep as that Dizzee Rascal was having the time of his life on it

Jack Dee was a bit of a waste of space, but it looked like he was trying too hard to be Mark Lamarr, which is a shame as Will Self was far better anyway.  Also, Jet Fighter 1000 was nowhere near as good as the likes of Donald Cox, the Dove From Above or even the Beast From the East.  Still, it was a vast improvement over the Wonderful Car...
Hopefully the critical success of the new show will see something else commissioned, or at least an incredibly overdue DVD release.

The preceeding documentary was excellent as well - like the one on the Big Night Out DVD, it was more about the entertainment than the information, although the bits that were divulged were really interesting.  Shame Lamarr didn't make an appearance, although interviews he's given since leaving the show indicate that - although he got on with Vic & Bob - he really didn't enjoy doing it.

Probably. I'm such an idiot.

I loved the doc too. Was nice to see Fowler from Catterick make an appearance.

Personally they should have left Shooting Stars alone.

Why is it we just can't leave things that were good alone?

Shooting Stars was a pale shadow of its former self. Jack Dee was the worst Captain in the history of the show (bring back Mark Lamarr - Will Self was rubbish too)

Matt Lucas isn't half a porker...

plus what ever happened to the Dove from Above? Why replace the best bit with the rubbish Jet 1000?

And could we not have Bob telling the joke and everyone loves it? I liked it when that happened.

I actually do want them to bring it back, but if so it will have to be a lot better than this.

I thought Will Self was pretty good, but I agree Mark Lamarr was better.

The dove from above.... when was the last time you watched? I was always quite fond of Donald Cox the sweaty fox but yeah I agree Jet 1000 was a bit rubbish

I thought Jack Dee was pretty good as captain. I was pissing myself at his challenge.

Bloody brilliant. Oh, how I miss this show. If only it wasn't a one-off. It really was like they'd never went away.

It was quite good, George Dawes the highlight as he always was in the show but Jack Dee was awful. But Shooting Stars was always a bit hit & miss anyway, & went on for far too many series as it became repetitive plus the live version was shite they just couldn't be bothered!! Would love to see Vic & Bob do something new, what on earth have they been up too?

Anyone watch the first ep of the new series last night?
For anyone who didn't like the New Year special, I thought this was right back on form. Especially Vic's dirty pants and You've Been Filmed...

I'm not entirely sure about Dan Skinner (playing Angelos Epithemiou, the guy in the anorak) becoming a regular - I suppose it could work out fine - is his character a better presence than Vegas? I'll reserve judgement for now.

Jack Dee was fine IMO. They seem to have done away with Vic's Bad Joke, which had become rather staid, plus the Dove has returned.
All in all, it was just like the old days!

I thought it was excellent! Perhaps not quite as good as I remember it in its prime but one of the funnier things on TV at the moment.

I like the angelos character, particularly his idea of a date and asking when the show was going to end. I reckon he'll be a good addition.

Agreed. I was nearly blue in the face laughing when Vic's skid mark appeared. You've Been Filmed is sheer genius and also liked seeing Bob peg it onto the set across Team B's desk.

All round a nice surprise given the utter slating it got in the Radio Times.
