Pretty sure it has always been there, but just more noticable in the cinema and with the cleaned up soundtrack.

One thing I like about how the film has evolved with audiences (and how audiences have evolved with it) since first being released, is how Brody's "you're gonna need a bigger boat" line (improvised by Scheider) has gone from being an amusing one liner in '75 to, in the 10s, being more of a chilling cryptic suggestion as to how big their quarry is.

I also really want that blazer with the little white anchors all over it that Mayor Vaughn is wearing when the tiger shark is being displayed...

Speaking of the tiger shark...

When watching the film on TV, you never get a proper view of the shark's teeth (in fact, it almost looks as though it has no teeth at all!), but on the cleaned-up, big-screen treatment, you can see them perfectly!

Aye and the other improvements on the audio I noticed was the transition between the boom recordings and the ADR. On dvd its really noticeable when Hooper says "its a floating asylum" at the dinner table scene, but in the cinema it sounded like they had cleaned it up a bit to make it less obvious.

Agreed.

Several things I've previously not noticed/have been obscured due to the quality of the previously existing print:
When Hooper turns up at the Brodys' with wine and the Chief opens up the red, he just pours it on top of what was left of his whisky;
Brody's inhaling Old Spice whilst chucking out the chum;
Quint (on the Orca) has a massive grin on his face as he's chugging by when the tiger shark is being displayed;
The positively awful reaction shot from the young guy when Hendricks discovers Chrissie's body

Brilliant.

These were all moments I picked up on as well, the wine in the whiskey particularly making me laugh. Given how many times I've seen it, which is probably around 100, I'm dead surprised I didn't already notice at least a couple of these things! As well as noticing the tiger shar actually has teeth! The cleaned up film is amazing! Or even more amazing, rather! Can't wait for the blu-ey. Wish my house was big enough to warrant purchasing a projector!

Not to mention the fact that rather than just a dark sillhouette in the water like before, you can really make out Chrissie Watkin's baps in the new print

What, just me then?

And a bit of lower down too...

In all seriousness (although you can), you can also now properly make out her facial expressions when she's being attacked/properly hurt by the rig that's tearing her round the place.

There is one downside to this new clear print on the big screen - Chrissie's would-be bed partner's reaction when they find her body. THE worst bit of acting in the whole film without exception.

How orange was that woman with the black glasses ?

Did they touch her up to ?

Quint's death was pretty horrific ........that high pitched screaming.

And when Mrs Kitner confronts Brody....that slap !

I'd never paid much attention to him before, and it wasn't until the second big screen viewing that I noticed him, but yes.

I don't remember this, is it on the beach where they find her and the policeman stumbles with the whistle, or later on? Why does this new print highlight his acting?

Yeah, it's when Hendricks finds her and blows the whistle and Brody and this guy run over.

His reaction has always been there in exactly the same manner of course, it's just in the new print on the big screen, as Happy Shrapnel says, it's massively more noticable.

The guy basically looks in about ten different directions as if to try and find the perpetrator (but does it REALLY badly) and doesn't look in the least bit perturbed, more nonchalantly bored.

Not sure if you've seen this in the thread in Mammoth, but believe it or not this isn't a movie still but a close-up of a statue that Nick Marra has created for the forthcoming Jawsfest celebration.

Hooper and Brody are also in production. Amazing, ain't it?

When I was growing up I wanted to be Ron Taylor. Or Valerie to be honest either one. Such an influence on Jaws, his knowledge was second to none, he had huge respect for the sharks but an immense passion, certainly in his later years.
A HUGE loss to the marine word.
RIP.

I just always assumed that he couldn't see what Hendrix was whistling for as Brody was keeping him back, which is why he's looking around as if to say "what...I can't see anything..." Brody only sees what it is when he walks up closer to the remains.

Quoted for truth.  Ron and Valerie probably did more to progress our understanding of sharks in the last 30 years of the 20th century than anyone else.  After hearing this sad news from jonson, a repeat viewing of Blue Water, White Death was called for (and if any of you Jaws fans haven't seen this incredible documentary, put this right immediately!)  It may be hard to believe being that it was only about 40 years ago, but it was the Taylors that captured the first ever underwater footage of the Great White during the shooting of this doc, which was instrumental to the creation of Jaws (expedition leader Peter Gimbel was Benchley's model for Hooper when writing Jaws - heir to a huge fortune but dedicated to oceanography).

If the documentary shows anything else, it's just how little understanding of sharks there was 40 years ago - they wander the world looking for great whites but go to tropical seas, they are surprised when the oceanic white tips that they swim with get a little too aggressive - it really is incredible that there were no tragedies on this voyage!
