It's slick, ultra-violent entertainment. It's funny, it's disturbing, it tugs at the heartstrings. It's the ultimate urban nightmare, ugly and beautiful at the same time. Show your love for the masterpiece that is RoboCop.

It's fantastic, only surpassed by another Verhoeven film.

Speaking of which, there is one sequence that stands out for me, the sequence in the home, who would have thought a film like this would be so moving?

Do I even have to ask which film you mean, Dev? Troopers is superb, but RoboCop is the gem in Verhoeven's extremely impressive CV, in my opinion.

The sequence you mention is very touching, RoboCop getting more and more agitated, glimpses of a life forever gone flashing before his eyes.
The scene with him and Lewis in the industrial area is very emotional as well.

"I can feel them, but I can't remember them."

Saw a few minutes of it and it looks wank to be honest. And it's written by Frank Millar no? There goes my interest if it is............

It's not a bad film, but no way near the level of the original, IMO. Caine is a good villain though.

Miller's original screenplay was adapted into a comic by Avatar, I think you'd like it, Dev.

I think it's on par with the original in terms of the satire - and the robot duke out at the end is something VERY special (the last great use of stop-motion in my opinion).

The original, like Terminator, will always be superior because it's a self-contained rounded story, but people disregard Robo 2 too easily.

The mood of the sequel fits well, the tone is definitely achieved, but the craftsmanship is more crude than the slick original, the story also lacks the severe emotional impact. And no Kurtwood Smith. That said, I agree completely about the climactic fight, sensationally good.

Robocop is definitely one of the best shot mainstream films of the 1980s, it still looks fresh now.

I also think its one of the only sci-fi films of the 80s that has a DVD player in a scene (yes I know it was just a regular compact disc).

It does look sensational still, the design every bit as powerful as the day it was released.

'Somebody call a paramedic' was the cry after ED 209 made mincemeat of this poor guy, what was the other line? 'It's only a glitch'

Anyone think Donald Rumsfeld is a bit like Dick Jones?

It was bloody gory as well - remember when Emil got fucked by the acid before coming apart horribly when hit by a car! Leon Nash's : "Get away from me man!!!" was hilarious - so much for loyalty to your mates

We also had the famous hand shooting scene with Clarence Boddicker

Robocop also had the one liner "You're fired" that actually made sense (since Jones had to be fired before Murphy could finish him).

True Lies had the same one liner at the end and it was lame - ooo you're fired because I'm about to press the fire button, clever clever.

Leon's reaction is hilarious, to tell you the truth I think my reaction would have been the same The scene is violent in the extreme, sensational makeup. Rob Bottin is a god among men.

"Well give the man a hand!"

Thanks to Moviedeaths.com we have a still of the rest of his arm getting blasted off when Murphy gets used for shooting practice...

Really loved the fact that Paul Verhoeven clearly didn't give a damn about excessive violence - resolutely certificate 18 film making!

Forgot to comment on that - didn't realise Rob Bottin was involved with that scene - major league genius
