It's been a sort of strange 2008 for movies, I have seen plenty of them and they can be either good or bad. The Dark Knight was brilliant, broke so many records and still be getting the money from the DVDs, it may be the best film of 2008. Mamma Mia was great, maybe a close second, RockNRolla was funny and sexy, Indy 4 was up my expectations, Wanted was cool, can't wait to see Eden Lake, The Oprhange is scary stuff and Max Payne, The Happening, Inkheart and Twlight were big five star wonders. But then you have the rubbish like No Country, very depressing with that rubbish ending and There Will Be Blood was damn right awful apart from the peformances. In all, a strange year but fingers crossed for a better 2009. PS, The Mist was a massive shocker especially that ending. Why?!

i think you should change your name to joanna likes crap films.

just a thought

although seems you liked the mist so its not ALL bad.

cloverfield is the most frightning monster movie since king kong 1933 version.
thanks to the teaser trailer which gave nothing away i was in the same boat as the cast and on the edge of my seat not knowing what was attacking new york. a ground breaking classic and no film came close this year to better it.not a big fan of hand held camerawork but it worked for this.
other top films for me were THE MIST,MAMMA MIA,FEMALE AGENTS,HAPPY GO LUCKY,MONGOL and THE DUCHNESS but i am in love with keira knightly!
turkeys of the year were THE HAPPENING and 10,000 BC.
disappointments were WALL-E,DARK KNIGHT,THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

Come on Empire, I thought you always did a Top 25 List, with other things to go with it such as Best Score and Worst Line of the Year. Surely I'm not the only one who wants a more detailed round-up of what has been a fantastic year for film in all areas.

Totally agree, I wish the Empire top 25 yearly list.

To be honest besides the big three films of the year The Dark Knight, No Country For Old Men and The Dark Knight it was hard to think of seven other genuine movies to justify a top 10.

There is something in the Wolverine Covered issues, which does list their top 10 in order, but it's not quite what we're used to.

Same here, the round up this year has been very disappointing.

Surely it's 'Use a Dick' as Bren has just verbally violated the ultrasound nurse?

for me There Will Be Blood was film of the year. Paul Dano was great supporting actor and personally Day Lewis' performance one of the greatest ever. I also really enjoyed In Bruges, No Country For Old Men, Dark Knight, Pineapple Express, Wall E and the surprise film for me was Man On Wire. Great Documentary.

Biggest disappointments - Righteous Kill. Great introduction to film and then utter crap. Also disappointed with Hancock and Indy IV.

What counts as a 2008 film? Juno and no country for old men were released at the end of 2007
