I predicted this in a Friday 13th story a few days back. I have to say though, I was joking! Expect a Saw remake out around 2011.

Oh for cryin' out loud! Give it a rest. How far down the bottom of the barrel are they going to scrape? I'm waiting for a remake of Night of the Lepus. If that happens I'm going to launch the missiles!

All in all another pointless remake which will be down graded to a 15 and will be less entertaining/scary than Freddy Vs. Jason. Why bother remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street, I'd rather have a film about Freddy before the residents of Elm St burned him alive. At least that would bring something new to the table.

It's beeen almost 25 years now since the original so have at it I say. As long as the film is solid then I don't mind at all.  Be keeping an eye on this!

Granted that the elm streen series is a perfect example of what happens when too many sequals get made, but why mess with somthing that still resonates today. The original Nightmare on Elm Street is superb and will always be, Why havn't they decided to make the prequal which could be a fantastic horror / thriller about a child murderer and the parents of a frightened town seeking said killer out and burning him alive at the end, That film could be disturbing but could also has great promise if dealt with properly,

Whzt can they do with it that hasn't been done with the sequels. Freddy was great in his day but he ain't scary anymore. The orignal has plenty of room for improvement  so I'm not going with the "don't touch a classic" arguement. I just think Freddy as a concept has been done to death (no pun intended). Actually kinda like Peakys idea of a prequel if they really must do something

This will be different to the usual remake as I'm sure they'll go down the path of origin, with Krueger being a school janitor paedophile etc. before being burnt alive by the kids parents. It could be interesting........ OR..........not.

Although a lot of the sequels are crap, the original still scares me shitless. Hopefully they won't have an origin story, can't we just have someone evil and notto have to explain why? That's why The Joker worked in TDK, there was no rhyme or reason to his chaos, "some people just want to watch the world burn". Hopefully this attitude will apply to Freddy, he will just be an evil, supernatural, child-killing bastard who doesn't give a shit about anything, the proper "bastard son of a thousand maniacs".

Hence the only successful remakes that spring to mind are The Fly and The Thing, both of which coincided with the AIDS epidemic. Elm St was a product of the Reagan administration... hence the lead character is called Nancy. It's hard to imagine an Obama subtext terrifying anyone.

Yep, good idea, and also quite relevant these days, as a child molester was brutally murdered in London two days ago.

I heard through the grapevine that Billy Bob Thornton was being considered for the Freddie role. If producers really are considering making this, I think Billy Bob is a good shout. Thank god the Near Dark remake has been cancelled. The Lost Boys 2 was crap and the same would probably count for a new Near Dark movie

It'll be the same old crap. Pretty but shitty actors noone cares about, colours muted so heavily you can't make out which marginal character is being killed and at least one sexy lady with a tanktop tied into a belly top. This movies and excuse for babes in nightwear. And I've nothing against that but we all have broadband, we don't need to rape another classic slasher to see us some soft porn

the original is a horror classic and it will be hard imagining a different child-killing-razor digited killer then Robert Englund. im holding my breath and will only consider this, if the new friday the 13th is any good. it does, but you never know.

Bring it on, its time for a new gen of Freddy horror. Okay, so its tougher to get the scares now but Wesley Strick is writing. Should be good. Too bad we wont get to see Johnny Depp slaughtered again. Count me in.

Why can't they just make another sequel?

I think they are though. Me and a mate were talking about the Dunes team earlier. The new Friday, despite what you hear is basically a sequel. Although it's being presented as a reboot. It's actually a Jason stalks teens at Crystal Lake movie which tips it's hat to the films that have gone before it. Sure they will go over his origin again, but in flashback. It's all marketing. No one would go and see Friday The 13th Pt12 which is basically what it is. If you read the interview over at www.shocktillyoudrop.com with the producers of the new Elm Street, they are doing the exact same thing. A reboot, as opposed to a remake.

Hasn't this franchise been done to death? Why bother with a remake? Why can't Hollywood think up something remotely original?

Fair enough, but the last Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Cravens New Nightmare wasw one of the best of the series. If they're planning a sequel, but as a reboot, if it has the same imagination of New Nightmare then it could be rather good

remakes of old horror films are never too good so i don't have high hopes for this one

they should have either made another sequel or not bothered with this one

I will be interested to see how good this could be, I want all remakes of horrors to be really good but most end up being very poor.
