to be fair to the new film i think you can explain aay anything to do with time travel because of course it doesnt exist so you can live by whatever rules you set yourself so something a simple as saying the things that have happened over the 3 movies so far could have changed the future so we have shinny new machines now but as for the film as a whole, from just the trailer i dont think its going to give the franchise any kind of stability or credibility. stopping at number 2 wuld have been ideal for it. im totally against flogging the guts out of a franchise but if you can do what batman begins and dark knight did for that franchise it can give it a kick start and solidify itself, though i dont think it looks like terminator salvation is going to do that. you need to get rid of visual effects totally and be brutal and uncompromising, and give it a story with meat and realism, (as far as you can push realism with the subject matter here) but from the trailer it looks like its goin to be a bit too cute, but its going to be grittier than terminator 3. its not going to reignite terminator as a franchise gone too far but its going to beat rise of the machines all hands down. and christian bale signing on for a few is only good news, looks like the story will get better with time as the movies pile up with him in it and it wont just be a movie for 12 years olds and upwards just to drag in the money. itll be like the bond series perhaps with casino and quantum establishing the character and from now on itll be bond back to how he used to be, maybe bale after this movie will settle it down and give it a new direction. if they tone the visual effects down i think from salvation onwards it could be a good franchise add on.
