Has anyone seen the trailer for this in cinemas yet? Philip 'Gene Hunt' Glensiter doing a dodgy American accent, something about Van Helsing and big monsters? The new Primeval or the new Prehistoric Park?

Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes) stars in a fantastical new six-part drama series - a contemporary spin on the legacy of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, set above and beneath the streets of modern-day London.
Glenister plays Rupert Galvin, a larger-than-life American with a tragic past and a zero-tolerance policy to the rabble of mythical “half-life” entities that exist all around us. When he bursts into the life of his teenage godson, Luke (Christian Cooke – Echo Beach, Robin Hood), whose father died in mysterious circumstances 15 years before, little does Luke know what will be thrust upon him. There are supernatural forces at work and it is Luke’s destiny, as the last descendent of the Van Helsing line, to smite the half-lives that stalk our streets.
While trying to juggle an ordinary life of school exams, parties and learning to drive – not to mention keeping it all from his mum – Luke is catapulted into a world of vampires, demons and zombies, along with his best friend Ruby (Holliday Grainger – Waterloo Road). But he remains cool – it’s in his blood after all…
Helping Galvin to train Luke in his quest is the beautiful but ice-cold Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper - Affinity) a blind concert pianist with a history, who is also the foremost authority on the undesirable entities preying on humanity.
But before they have time to properly prepare Luke, he is faced with a daunting opponent in the form of the villainous Gladiolus Thrip (Mackenzie Crook -The Office, Pirates of the Caribbean) a sinister vampire with a burning hatred for the Van Helsing line and all they stand for.

Dear God, who green lights these things?  If I sent that synopsis to a production company I'd never work again!  It sounds like it's been devised by a 15-year-old.  If it makes it past one season I'll eat Christopher Biggins.

That's what I was thinking. Can't blame him for looking for a way out though!

Demons starts today on ITV1, (shudder), last night I was reading a review of this show and one look at the screenshots I knew that I would not be watching this show, it looks so cheap.
It is literally Buffy but for little kids, thats the problem with british shows they either make comedies for adults or they make dramas for children. They should make a faboulous show like Buffy and they shouldnt concentrate on the target audience, this show perhaps could have been better but it obviously looks like its been dumbed down for the kiddies.

It looks poor.  That guy does such a generic American accent as well... sounds like we all probably do when we try to do an American voice.

It does seem as if they've made Glenister American either a) to get the market or b) to emphasise the Giles thing in reverse.

I was quite disappointed as I was expecting this to be post-9pm and darker. Saturday family slot? Might be fun ah la Primeval, but I guess I might be unfairly marking it down thanks to thwarted expectation.

Isn't that Gazdance's avatar?

As if I needed further proof, I watched the first five minutes.  Bad CGI, that guy from The Office in stupid make-up and one of the Britannia High pretty boys sans shirt for no reason.  Bollocks.

Well... The CGI was terrible, Mackenzie Crook was his usual talentless self and the girl from Survivors was particularly awful. It was entertaining enough by the end though, and next week looks much better, so I'll give it another chance.

Um, possibly not.

1) tries to hard to be Buffy - the knife thing wasn't ironic, just a reminder this wasn't as smart

2) the whole explanation thing sounded dumb and frankly sounded like a Nazi talking about the lower races!

3) does the boy own a shirt? Could they pander for the tweenie girl audience any more?

4) He complains about Van Helsing being fictional but doesn't blink at Mina Harker - and neither female character seemed much use.

Will have to improve dramatically to keep interest. Doesn't seem to have its own mythology sorted out which is a major problem.

Looked piss poor from the ITV trailers. Didn't watch it, busy watching something decent.
But from all what you've said, I havent missed owt.
This might tarnish Philip Glenisters cool books. Gene Hunt was a legend of a character. Then bring on the American accent for this and, oh oh. Down he goes.

This was pretty dreadful. Couldn't help laughing at Crook's character as he looked utterly ridiculous and not scary at all.

Not an awful episode. It is cheesy and derivative with poorly presented action scenes and the accent Glenister was putting on gave me the impression he is getting ready to try to break the US market. Yet, strangely, I was entertained.

I thought it was intrigueing for the first 3 minutes or so...and then came the poorly misjudged theme song and then the thoroughly pointless american accent that Pillip Gleneister was sporting. Oh well. ITV haven't got the lowdown on Sci-Fi drama, have they?

Well I enjoyed it and it's better than anything that's been on ITV1 in a long time on a Saturday.  Not that I watched it on Saturday but just now as I had recorded it

What....Buffy or Demons?

I found this quite entertaining, although mainly in a piss-take manner - sadly at no point did Glenister announce to demons of any form that they are surrounded by armed bastards, which would basically have made the whole venture worthwhile for me.

I'm just glad that ITV keep having another stab ('scuse the pun) at fictional genre stuff like this; rather than just giving up and having more unscripted programming. Hopefully with the first episode out of the way they can aspire to, at the very least, Primeval standards.

Good grief that was poor. I'm really not impressed at all, so very clearly a Buffy wannabe this even names the "watcher" character Rupert.

The main guy was dull as ditchwater, the girlfiend was useless, the bad guys completely unimposing. The Mina character was a bit more interesting though and Glenister was good value - even if I did find his accent seriously distracting. Might give it another go but it's not looking too good for this one

As Charlie Brooker said at the weekend Glenister has an American accent because they want to try and sell it to America and so he's not just Gene Hunt chasing demons around instead of criminals

I've got it recorded but can't imagine I'll get round to watching it
