You realise that's Audrey Tautou in the pic, not Audrey Hepburn?

There's something eerie about how similar they look, though...

Indeed. I could look at that face all day...

For my Film101 paper at uni, we had to submit a pitch for a film worth 20% of our paper. Mine was a thriller based on post-9/11 sensitivities (post-9/11 was one of the several things we could choose to base it on), and I just threw Audrey in there because I could. Got a tick for that and everything, and ended up with an A+ for the pitch, so it can't have been bad.

I like it!

When I was at uni I had to do a film pitch and I pitched this terribly artsy film about a man on a train, where basically nothing happens I couldn't make it in the end because the train company wouldn't let me film on their train.

What bastards! Why wouldn't they let you do that? Still, I'm sure the lecturers were falling over themselves to laud your terribly artsy pitch.

Mine had Guy Pearce as a war correspondent who witnesses an execution of innocent Iraqis by American soldiers in Iraq, goes home and starts getting paranoid of an American family and a Middle Eastern family who've just moved onto the street after he finds a bug in his car. Audrey was Guy Pearce's wife, and I managed to wedge Nathan Fillion and Lena Headey in there too. It was fantastic, but the plot was so full of holes. Lucky the marker didn't care.

Oh apparently the train thing was something to do with regular people not wanting to be on film. That and they didn't trust me to follow Health and Safety guidelines. Which to be honest, I wouldn't have.

And who wouldn't be? Especially my lecturers, who seem to have a problem with mainstream film (I got involved in a rather heated discussion board argument with my lecturer about The Dark Knight - he hated it for juvenile reasons - and the lectures on Disney and Tom Cruise were shameless attempts to turn us against them), so French connection = a guaranteed A.

Yeah a few of my lecturer's were like that. Mind you, they are the ones that turned me onto Godard, Sallas and Jarmusch, so its not all bad.

WE NEED THOSE EDIT BUTTONS BACK! ARGH!

Anyway, what exactly are these Health and Safety guidelines? What, no filming when the train's moving? No smacking people upside the head with tripods? How exactly could it not work that way?

And anyway, don't we have release forms for people in public?

Not all bad, indeed. My lecturers tried to turn us onto Svankmajer (who I'm still to be fully convinced is great) and Dogme films (which, after Festen and Italian for Beginners, I really really like, and it's also bred a liking for Thomas Vinterberg). So, they've done their good and their bad, heh.

Hi guys and dazzlingly pretty ladies!

Being a member of the forum for only five months or so, I am not aware what specific purpose General Chat III was supposed to serve (other than off topic chat), yet it did not, but was found instead in violation of the rules & guidelines, expecially in relation to "security problems" that Captain Black mentioned in his post, with which it was announced that the thread was being locked.

Anyone care to elucidate this matter for me? I would hate to be the one to make an unwitting mistake that would result in similar incidents.

Also, I would greatly appreciate having an edit button, which would be thoroughly convenient for a mildly dyslexic person like myself, who's also a foreigner.

I watched Festen in a uni lecture and I overslept so missed the introduction, explaination and the first ten minutes. So I watched the rest of the film from the back of the lecture theatre thinking "Is this a documentary? No, It can't be! Its too harrowing. But it looks like one. Maybe it is" So perhaps thats why I like it.

Festen is fantastic. I was sort of turned off it on the first viewing (felt it was all too depressing and rather staged), but on the second viewing for an essay I did on Dogme, it really improved in my eyes and I've really liked it ever since.

Italian for Beginners is better, though. Much sweeter and funnier, and is possibly the best straight romantic comedy I've ever seen.

I would like to see that, lol, if only to see how Liotta Mach 2 came about.

There's a bird out on the washing line chirping at my cat right now. My cat killed its mate, you see, and it's been there off and on for four days chirping incessantly. It's driving me mad.
