That middle one looks like it is straight out of the early Hush issues

costume looks like a good mix of the movie suit and comic versions
so far, nice imo

A few more screenshots and a video HERE!

Plus a bit of info from Gamespot:

Last week ended with the Associated Press reporting that Pandemic Studios was, at one point, indeed working a game based on the Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight. However, the report said that development had halted prior to the $400 million-grossing film's release, costing Electronic Arts an estimated $100 million in game sales.

Today on its Web site, Game Informer confirmed a new Batman game is in the works--at a publisher other than EA. The September 2008 issue of the Minnesota-based magazine touts Batman: Arkham Asylum, a new Eidos Interactive action title based on the DC Comics which inspired the films. Besides Batman, the game will feature the Joker and "an army" of other supervillains, and will be set in the titular madhouse featured in many Batman comics and graphic novels, including Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

According to Game Informer, Batman: Arkham Asylum has a "dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock." Cowritten by Paul Dini, producer of TV's Batman: The Animated Series, the game begins when the Joker breaks out of jail and escapes to Arkham. There, he orchestrates a plan to kill Batman and wreak havoc on Gotham City with the help of unnamed accomplices.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, which is currently boasting a Batman-logo countdown clock on its Web site. Though there is no text on the site, its Web page description reads, "Rocksteady Studios is an independent videogame developer based in North London, currently working on our latest FPS title for next-gen platforms." (Emphasis added.) Rocksteady's sole previous effort was 2006's lukewarmly reviewed Urban Chaos: Riot Response for the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox.

[UPDATE] Wednesday morning, Eidos publically announced Batman: Arkham Asylum will ship for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2009. In North America, the game will be co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which is self-publishing the forthcoming Lego Batman. WBIE is the game division of Warner Bros., the movie studio holds the Batman film rights and bankrolled The Dark Knight.

There's quite a nice piece in Edge this month about this.  It does look very, very good.  And Mark Hamill's the Joker, woo!

There's an exclusive trailer up at IGN Xbox360 at the mo which looks pretty sweet. I hope they use the score from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and try and tie it in somehow with that story. I'm dissapointed we will never get to see that Dark Knight game (as I'm sure the company behind it are) as that could have been great fun.

Isn't EA still supposed to be working on a Dark Knight game, or has that now been officially cancelled?

Personally, I hope they keep their own "Batman game universe" for this, it makes sense to use the more out-there comic book style if they can (rather than try to keep it ultra-real like the Nolanverse).  So far, they seem to be melding the realistic film world and the OTT comic world quite nicely.

the Dark Knight game has now been cancelled i think because i remember reading it in various game magazines and on the internet

i think they are concentrating on this game for now

Hopefully this isn't the same trailer (click) - apologies if it is. Am LOVING the look of Joker & Killer Croc!

More new screens here.

I'm trying SO hard not to get too excited by the prospect of a decent superhero game after being disappointed many times before....this is ticking all the boxes- now all I need to see is some video footage and I'm getting that pre-order in!

Ditto. I'm sold.

More hands-on stuff here, here and here.

According to Amazon, this is released at the end of March?! Surely not?!

Wikipedia has the following villains listed to star in the game:

  • The Joker
  • Killer Croc
  • The Riddler
  • Harley Quinn
  • The Scarecrow
  • Mr Freeze
  • Bane  (if this is true I'll be a happy man)
  • Mr Zsasz
Also possible are The Penguin, Poison Ivy & Amygdala.

Doesn't Mark Hamill do the voice of The Joker in MK vs DC Universe aswell? I really enjoy playing as The Joker and as Batman - his bat attack brutality is particularly fun to watch.   Can't wait for this game to be released though.

I notice that Wiki have the release date down as May 1st - whilst Shopto.net still have it down as late March. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

On a side note - with the above post speaking about DC vs MK. Is it any good? How have other Batman fans found it? Does it do justice or is it a cheap cash in on the character?

In all honesty, I would say MK vs DC Universe is currently my favourite game to play on the XBox, and it has been for a while. I'm a fan of Batman but not in a 'I'm your No.1 fan' crazy kinda way, if you get my meaning (I reserve that for The Crow franchise! ).

I'm a big fan of the MK universe so getting the superheros included was a bonus. As for the characters, The Joker, Batman and Catwoman all come off really well - from my limited knowledge of them. Batman's outfit appears to be taken from the old comics and original TV series; The Joker's fashion looks similar to TDK version but his face is closer to that of the comics and Catwoman is dressed in a purple catsuit (although I preferred Tim Burton's vision).

Their fighting styles are all different... Batman has a similar fighting style to Scorpion (not sure what kind of technique he's supposed to be using though). The Joker is sprightly and kind of cheeky in his attacks (electricution, a massive fist that punches and he throws playing cards) and Catwoman is obviously very agile and likes to either whip or scratch her opponents.

Their final moves... Batman can only do heroic brutalities as he won't kill anyone, but both The Joker and Catwoman can perform fatalities, plus if you choose not to do a final move, The Joker goes and stamps hard on his opponent anyway, then laughs!

There are loads of cool little touches in MK vs DC and I really would recommend buying it!

Saw it last week. I was going to post about it myself but every time I thought of it or saw it, I got a little too excited!

This is my next real 'must have' game, although got to wait until 12th June!  They also recently updated the coverart from a very drab looking black cover with just the title to this...

I am quite surprised they did. But even compared to the brilliant, brilliant Animated Series, here it sounds just awful. I do still like Joker though in a way. But here it seems out of place, maybe becuase of the graphics.

From that trailer, the gameplay and environments looks great but I totally agree about the voice-acting, I think Mark Hamill is an awful choice for The Joker. He's always used in the MK vs DC Universe game and he just sounds wrong.
