I see your point but have to disagree.

Then we shall agree to disagree.

One thing I'm sure we CAN agree on is that Bond should NOT be played by Danny Dyer...

Of course, and I think the Dyer suggestion actually leaves us in a good place: skin colour, species or ethnicity aside, some people just aren't right for Bond, be it Eddie Murphy, Redrum or Danny Dyer.

Leaving aside the fact he's generally rubbish these days, why is Eddie Murphy any worse a suggestion? Bond as a streetwise foul mouthed American? It's not too much of a jump further than having him played by a black actor...

I wouldn't want Eddie Murphy as Bond any more than I'd want Timothy Dalton as Axel Foley.

It's a long thread to go back on, so this might have been mentioned, but surely Bond could be mixed race (part black or Asian). Even if you're unable to accept for whatever reason the Scottish land owner/inherited wealth aspect of his father applies itself easily to a black or Asian man, his mum is French and I do believe there are one or two French women who are not Caucasian.

You've answered your own question there. He's generally rubbish these days, which is why I suggested him today as an inappropriate Bond.

I know you're being facetious, but to clarify I don't think anyone pro-black actors is suggesting a switch in Bond's character type.

I got bored of Beverly Hills Cop 2 after about half an hour so it definitely had the same effect as a Bond movie.

Bond movies have slick directing style like Tony Scott? Not even QoS has that.

a lot of the early bonds were considered to have a fast paced, slick style at the time.
OHMSS shares similar pace to BHC2, which even has a pre title scene.

I'm surprised this has gone on for as long as it has.
Why tamper with a tried and true formula? Bond is not black, he is a white, upper middle class Englishman. That's how Ian Fleming wrote him. That's how he should stay.

BHC2 is chance for murphy's axel to be a black bond style character. there is even a bit in the playboy mansion that shows some skin as would a classic bond flick.

Got anymore tenuous connections between James Bond and Axel Foley up your sleeve, Sparky?

It is making me want to see Roger Moore play Foley in a remake.

We've already got Dalton signed on as Axl for BHC4, so Rodgie will have to wait for 5.

Maybe we can get all the ex-Bonds to play Axl in subsequent BHC films, which would be fitting seeing as how Eddie Murphy as Axl F has been relegated to TV.

Thinking about it, maybe Harold Faltemeyer would be a good choice for the next Bond theme.......

since murphy was the only black action movie hero at the time of course one of his films would eventually ape the bond formula.

But it didn't really, though, that's the point. The formula of BHC2 was that of an action-comedy. The only similarity with Bond was the action, something that isn't, ya know, the exclusive preserve of Bond films.

make that biggest draw for a black action hero at the box office in the 80s.

This is a question that won't go away. Why?

Because every journo will want to catch a star or director out by asking about the possibility of a black Bond, in the hope that a knee-jerk denial will sound a bit racist. And the actor and director will of course have been schooled by PR to avoid said reaction, and reply as if is a genuine possibility - and so will give credence to the whole notion.

It's also what happens when the whole thing becomes about the Bond character - which is, face it, a bit dull - rather than the world around Bond, the villains, the new cars and locations etc, which the series hasn't been about for a while. Everyone needs a new angle, so hey! How about if he's black.

I'm one of those annoying that prefers to see Bond as a codename rather than the same man. I totally understand that this is not the case, but it's jsut something I prefer to see. I have OCD when it comes to continuity in movies and I hate when movies f this up (see: Pro X's legs in X-Men First Class and X-Men: The Last Stand) As others have said, trying to find consistincy in James Bond just induces headaches, so I simply prefer to see it this way, avoiding headaches.

So for that reason, I'm totally here for a Black Bond. I understand 100% though most people do see Bond as an actual man and not a codename, and thus his colour can not be changed, and I wouldn't really care if they don't change his colour.
